Anyone tried this?

I am struggling with the agoraphobia and the bridge. This morning I Looked at a local group where there are photographs of our town as it use to be , there was the bridge, big panic attack. Haven’t left the bungalow for nearly nine months.

Anniebach I am sorry that happened. I must have joined after you originally told your story so although I was aware you'd had a tragedy I never knew what it was before.

Anniebach Sun 05-Aug-18 09:14:00

Thank you for your advice TwiceAsNice.

Readymeals, the bridge is just an ordinary bridge , it links where I live to the town. My darling daughter died there last November and I don’t want to see it, but if I can go over it again I can go into town,

ReadyMeals Sun 05-Aug-18 09:05:14

What bridge is this? Can I read about it anywhere?

One further thing if this lady is a genuine professional she will not be able to become a friend to you at a later date. That is a conflict of interest and crosses professional boundaries

TwiceAsNice Sun 05-Aug-18 09:02:30

Annie I would try it you have nothing to lose and lots to gain. As a therapist I have heard of it but it hasn't been around for a long time so not so much "evidence" to look at for effectiveness. Whatever therapy you try it is important that you like and trust the therapist, as a therapist myself I think the relationship between you is very important. The tapping is very similar to that used in EMDR which is the best therapy for PTSD ( post traumatic stress disorder) which is caused by difficult trauma you have experienced. I do hope it helps you. However most important do check that this lady is properly qualified, ask to see proof of her qualifications and her professional indemnity insurance. No ethical therapist will ever mind you asking this. Good luck.

Thank you all so much , last night I went off to sleep thinking of a name for my new scooter, because it’s blue I thought Bluebird, it’s been on the news, but then thought of the way the original Bluebird did that spin in the air before sinking , so no.

If it wouldn’t bore you I will post about my treatment, when it starts, not a meme thread but if it helps me it may help others here.

I have a few goals, little ones , go to church, go to the monthly poetry reading group in the pub, buy a newspaper,
Use the mobile library which comes once a month, in my old house I used it for nine years, I miss chats with the librarian.

Glad it helped you Sparkle .

annie EFT does work. I have had it from a practitioner to help me handle grief. Since then I bought books and watched film clips on You Tube. It's easy to learn and I use it on many things. I am working on my spider phobia in readiness for the autumn.

Dear Annie, I'm glad you've found someone who may provide support. You are so brave, stay strong.

cornergran Sat 04-Aug-18 22:27:05

annie. I’m so pleased you have found this neighbour. EFT could help and it definitely will do no harm. The support from a neighbour who could become a friend is invaluable and perhaps more important than EFT. Wishing you well and sending love. By the way, I plot a route in a small cruiser around the Norfolk Broads, working out where to stop and how long it would take me to get there if I need a night time diversion. Always wanted a boat smile.

Luckygirl Sat 04-Aug-18 22:26:49

I know this sounds mad annie but when I am plagued with thoughts that I would rather went away (especially at night) , I imagine putting them on a train and watch the train wind its way into the distance and over the horizon. When they return, I put them on the next train! I find it helps.

If nothing else, it puts you temporarily in control. And control is an important part of overcoming these things - when we feel it has all got the better of us we tend to sink. If we feel we are in control, then it is less frightening.

Anniebach Sat 04-Aug-18 22:16:11

Elegran, I had to googled to find out where Zennor was, ?

Elegran Sat 04-Aug-18 22:12:03

You could try imagining your brother driving from Aberystwyth to Zennor, and how he would cost (and you would quote) for building extensions for the houses he passed! You'd have to also imagine him measuring up the sites as well. Don't forget to add in the cost of the cups of tea.

Elegran Sat 04-Aug-18 22:08:23

A busman's holiday, Annie. I don't suppose it would work if the busman worked out his best route from Aberystwyth to Zennor and how much the petrol would cost him.

Anniebach Sat 04-Aug-18 21:45:20

Elegran, glad it works for you but doubt it would have the same effect if your brother had a building firm ?, he does the pricing, I do the quotes ?

I have done villages in Wales, Towns in Wales, passing Q. K X V J. Even done Christian names from my family tree, one problem is O, soooo many Owains.

Elegran Sat 04-Aug-18 20:33:43

I find that I can get rid of unpleasant night thoughts by lying there planning how to do something complicated, like changing the layout of the house, complete with where to run the plumbing if I added an en suite and how many rolls of wallpaper and tins of paint it would take to redecorate the hall, stairwell and landing and how much it would all cost. By the time I have concluded that it would take me too long (and I can't do plumbing anyway, though paint and polyfilla are within my scope) , so I would be better to find a builder or a decorator, I am ready to fall asleep.

Anniebach Sat 04-Aug-18 20:20:19

Thank you Elegran, I can but try.

Visualing is out though, I have tried and tried it to get to sleep, always cry because my thoughts go back to places I don’t want them to go. But I do want some normality back so will be open to it.

Elegran Sat 04-Aug-18 19:43:40

Well done Annie The tapping is a peg on which to hang your hat while you relax and move into a state where you can clear your mind of the tensions which led to your agoraphobia and so on.

The peg could be anything. With hypnotism it is the mesmerising voice of the practitioner talking you out of your stress, with other methods it is things like visualising a beautiful landscape with a peacefully flowing stream. If this neighbour has experience in using the tapping and can make it work, then she will probably be able to help you. Best wishes!

I remember seeing Paul McKenna practicing this on a woman who had an extreme fear of spiders, to the extent where she wouldn't leave the house.
At the end of the session he had her stroking a tarantula.
I know some consider Paul McKenna a charlatan but i can only say what I saw.
You have nothing to loose,Annie. Think positive grin

BlueBelle Sat 04-Aug-18 18:11:26

Just seen your latest post That’s lovely Annie and what a good start

BlueBelle Sat 04-Aug-18 18:10:00

Tapping has been around a very long time, they renew it every now and then with new names, I m not sure myself but then I ve never used it although I ve never had any success with Reiki, crystal healing or hypnotism etc etc I think it depends how much you believe it will help how much you are open to it and what price you are being asked for per session
I ll be interested to hear how it goes and wish you good luck Annie x

Anniebach Sat 04-Aug-18 18:04:27

How lovely you all are. I have spoken to the woman , she worked with my darling daughter 28 years ago, I don’t remember her but she remembers I use to call in the shop and she was always amused my daughter always gave me a hug as if she hadn’t seen me for days, she was still living at home ?. Would give me a hug and say ‘see you lunch time.

Anyway she has agreed to visit me, have a chat, explain her therapies but no charge for treatment, thinks it what she should do after what happened last November.

I bought a scooter today , Elegran you are so right, she offered as a neighbour to walk with me when I go out on the scooter and walk around the Cul de Sac , I have never been around it, I live in the first bungalow as one comes into it.

Isn’t that kind

tanith Sat 04-Aug-18 17:54:40

It was my husband not my son who had the fear of flying.

tanith Sat 04-Aug-18 17:53:47

My sons girlfriend was trained in EFT he had some sessions for his flying phobia, it didn’t work for him but it didn’t do him any harm to give it a try. I’d say go for it.

Cherrytree59 Sat 04-Aug-18 17:30:29

I agree give it a whirl.

You are a sensible lady Annie and will know quite quickly if it is what you are looking for.

Good luck xxx
