I really love GN but is it just me,that sometimes finds it a bit cliquey?

callgirl1 Tue 31-Jul-18 17:22:24

Not for me either Anno.

Baggs Tue 31-Jul-18 17:15:17

Your profile is not blue from here, anno.

annodomini Tue 31-Jul-18 17:13:56

I've left my profile in blue, but realise that I'm now a rarity!

Billybob4491 Tue 31-Jul-18 17:04:49

You could have fooled me Jalima smile

callgirl1 Tue 31-Jul-18 17:04:05

Yes Bikergran, there was a bit of fun for me, looking at profiles and especially photos, pity all that has gone now. I`m blue still, but nowt worth seeing any more on there!

Jalima1108 Tue 31-Jul-18 17:00:50

But another things had deff changed and it happened since the Media hype, that our posts could be read anywhere, i do think that changed GN..also....I cant see (forgive me if im wrong) but there are no ones names highlighted in Blue any more!
That's a very good point bikergran

(and no, before anyone says anything, we're not in a clique wink)

bikergran Tue 31-Jul-18 16:55:19

Think I joined in 2012....

Some of the original posters are still around but not as often.

Like marmite GN was a just so helpful and comforting when my dh died just over 4 yrs ago.

I have pages and pages of virtual condolence messages form genuine people who I have never met and prob never will I still cherish those messages that helped me and I often think back to them.I will never forget them.

I've never been to a meet although had the opportunity .

I think that things just move on sometimes bit like real life, friends come and go some just pass through (maybe some were scared off) with our virtul parties..

Ohhhh .........yessssssssss the virtul parties, not that! is something that has changed...we were all as silly as one another,it was a bit of escapism, by the time the thread ended..it was like we had almost been to a real! party lol
(vodka jellies/furry handcuffs/men in uniform/inflatable friends/puncture outfits (don't ask) confused

I still lurk, sit quietly in a corner and bob my head up now and again and post. So much help and advice.
But another things had deff changed and it happened sinc e the Media hype, that our posts could be read anywhere, i do think that changed GN..also....I cant see (forgive me if im wrong) but there are no ones names highlighted in Blue any more!

I had lots of photos on my profile, but took them off as others did. which was a shame as you could put a face to
the name.
But I still switch on to GN every day when I'm hear and take a look see what Ive missed lol. ta ra all flowers

Some threads are some aren't IMO.

Jalima1108 Tue 31-Jul-18 16:39:48

I had to look that up Willow500!

It happens to us all sometimes.
Now I think 'Well, that went down like a lead balloon Jalima!
I got very hurt in the past when I dared to express views on the politics threads and was called 'silly' or 'stupid' or, in fact, if I agreed with a poster about something, of being 'part of a clique'.
But I think that happens less nowadays.

smile

Fennel Tue 31-Jul-18 16:35:57

Hillwalker - well start a thread about village life and I'm sure you'll get replies, from UK and elsewhere.

Willow500 Tue 31-Jul-18 16:25:22

I'm not sure you can have cliques in virtual space but I certainly don't feel there are any in GN - just lots of support, interesting topics and funny comments. I hope you are feeling a bit better today farview - please continue to post as there is always someone on here who understands, has been there or just wants to send a hug. I think there are always posts that don't seem to get many responses or you post something in a thread and it dies but I'm sure that's not personal at all. I'd far rather post something on here and have it ignored than on FB which no one responds to by people who know me - that happens to me all the time so I must be BNM in real life grin

I love My Gransnet ?
It is all mine!
It can make me laugh,
or cry.
It is interesting and informative.
It has taught me sooo much.
I now know how to microwave a Swede
and bake bread in a slow cooker.
And I received very good advice on the style site re what to wear to my sisters special Birthday!
*Long live GN*grin

Fennel, would love to hear about French village life and Panache, I am West Country, in Dorset, not sure where you are. What a lovely thread. Thankyou Farview .

Chewbacca Tue 31-Jul-18 13:56:20

For you Farview flowers and one of these too wine

farview Tue 31-Jul-18 13:50:20

No,GN members are never alone, I'm glad I started this thread... because I now feel more of a sense of belonging..and it's easier sometimes to be angry, sad, upset, unable to cope,etc..with a beautiful group of friends who are there 24/7 at the touch of a keypad than it is to sit and face someone, yes I have got a whole lot going on at the moment..as lots of us do sometimes..so knowing you are all here, alongside me..is a warm feeling! Thank you ALL for your posts..flowers

GrannyGravy13 Tue 31-Jul-18 12:27:19

Anniebach ??? thank you for making me feel welcome here ???

Chewbacca Tue 31-Jul-18 12:07:40

And when others have reached out, you've been one of the first to offer your support and a shoulder to lean on Annie; proving that what goes around, comes around. flowers

Anniebach Tue 31-Jul-18 11:59:21

Thank you x. I just want to say I always thought I could handle what life brought my way , struggled at times but got through. I was wrong, last November I wanted to reach for a large dose of paracetamol, I reached out here instead.

To anyone in a dark place please don’t fear opening up, reach out here , I certaintly opened up ! The support, kindness and yes love was in abundance . You are not alone on Gransnet , that’s it, please reach out x

Auntieflo Tue 31-Jul-18 11:32:52

Also flowers and {{{hugs}}} for you Annie. I see you on the Good morning thread, but if not, I do wonder where and how you are. God bless.

Marydoll Tue 31-Jul-18 09:39:53

Lovely post, Annie ?

Anniebach Tue 31-Jul-18 09:10:34

Iam, I have said , last November Grans saved my life, no dramatics, I was in the most darkest place, I posted and the care and support here saved my life. I thank God I turned to Gransnet that day.

Am reminded of a great aunt who believed - if the Lord doesn’t come, he sends ?

Iam64 Tue 31-Jul-18 08:44:32

Anniebach and annsixty - thanks for your open and honest comments about what gransnet means to you. I hope farview catches up with her thread once she has the opportunity. Thanks for starting the thread farview, its one of those gransnet goodies

annsixty Tue 31-Jul-18 08:39:04

GN has been a lifeline for me at times.
I do post too much about my personal life but if I don't" get It all out " on here, I would go mad .
My life is generally very lonely, living with an H who cannot have a conversation about anything but his own needs or concerns.
Just stay with us Farview we are worth the effort.

Anniebach Tue 31-Jul-18 08:38:00

I depend on Gransnet, no family here now, don’t leave the house, it’s the only company I have. No Gransnet and I would only have rolling news for hours , not a cheery thought. Such lovely people here x

Auntieflo Tue 31-Jul-18 08:21:03

I am another who loves Gransnet, mostly. I joined a little while ago and have had some lovely responses to posts, at other times I belong to the 'killed them dead' group. I wasn't going to bother reading this thread at all, but I am so glad I did, it's not what I expected to find at all. There have been many times when helpful advice has been given and I have been glad to squirrell it away for future pondering. The thread did make me laugh just now when reading the comments made on Sunday, around 1pm, lunchtime, it was a perfect case of either being in the know, or out, going from comments, to a bit of silliness. Now I shall be called to task because this could be construed as a threadabout a thread. Oh well, I enjoy GN, Farview we hope you do too. Stay with it, we all get our down moments, but someone, somewhere will pick up on it and send some flowers or a virtual hug. (See now, I could have killed off this chat by taking too long to write). Ah well that's life.
