Which drinks do you find best for quenching your thirst?
I like a cup of tea.

Normally I would say tea but I've just treated myself to a long cold drink.of sparkling elderflower with a dash of orange juice and lots of ice! Now for that cup of tea!

Elderflower and sparkling water with lots of ice.

Barmeyoldbat Mon 23-Jul-18 15:03:09

Oh yes Misadventure, ice cold beer shandy every time.

Once the sun is over the yardarm ( no, I have no idea when that is grin) then a shot of rhubarb gin with a few dashes of
Fevertree tonic or fevertree ginger and about four ice cubes is heavenly.

I've been making iced coffee with a teaspoon of instant dissolved in a spoonful of hot water then add milk, ice and water to taste....not bad. Going to dig out the processor and see if I can whizz it up to a frappe.
I also tried a dollop of icecream in elderflower tonic water....yum!

Oh bitter lemon, lime juice soda, elderflower and soda all nicely chilled.

Not a drink but have just devoured a huge bowl of gazpacho with ice cubes. My tongue is frozen!

GabriellaG Mon 23-Jul-18 13:29:49

I like iced coffee too...made with home ground beans. M&S used? to sell iced mocha in their cafe. Delish.

Homemade elderflower cordial with water, or San Pellegrino lemon. I didn't know they also made pomegranate, so I must look out for it.

Orange juice, just a small tot, topped up with lemonade and ice. Lovely!
Also, I’m very partial to lemonade and beer shandy - once the sun is over the yard-arm, of course!

Adam's Ale or Corporation Pop was what I got given when I was a child!

jenni123 Mon 23-Jul-18 12:29:49

I drink water on and off all day but also love my black tea. If I go out for lunch I usually have lime and soda.

DotMH1901 Mon 23-Jul-18 12:19:42

Cup of tea please!

Jillsewing Mon 23-Jul-18 12:13:14

I like ice cold sparkling mineral water or peppermint tea

David1968 Mon 23-Jul-18 12:03:47

Water. Tap water, that is. Low-cost and wonderful! (We're lucky enough to have clean, safe water in the UK. Many people in the world would give anything for this.)

loopylou Mon 23-Jul-18 11:47:28

I love elderflower cordial and sparkling water or grapefruit juice and soda (not allowed to have that now because of certain medications ☹️).
Sparkling water infused with sour cherry tea bags is lovely too!

Craftycat Mon 23-Jul-18 11:39:00

Well failing a good G&T (Silent Pool gin & Fevertree Mediterranean tonic,) then iced fizzy water with a slice of lime.

jocork Mon 23-Jul-18 11:35:22

I love elderflower presse or sanpellegrino lemon but I dilute with water to reduce my sugar intake. I'm used to drinking them weaker now and prefer them that way and it reduces the cost too. Perhaps I should try elderflower cordial. A friend makes it every summer and it is lovely but I've not tried the bought one.

With this heat, when out I go to a café in Buckingham , and whilst waiting around for the bus home, they sell a sparkling water with lemon and lime added , Its a nice thirst quencher as well.
I got a Volic still water yesterday with the lemon and lime added again more enjoyable with this heat.

Tea in all its forms - hot or cold.

I make ice tea, as follows:

As soon as you get up, put at least a litre of water on to boil. Make a jug of tea with about 3 teabags but take the bags out after no longer than 3 minutes. Squeeze a lemon or lime and stir a couple of dessertspoons of sugar into the juice (or none, if you prefer). Add this to the tea, stir again and allow to cool. Keep in fridge and drink the same day.

Unsweetened Peppermint tea is nice, too, hot or cold.

For the kids I used to make a huge jug or bowl of 1l of a fruit-based tea, cooled down with a 1l carton of red grape juice which I had previously frozen solid in the freezer. For parties I would make a punch of this in a bowl, adding some frozen raspberries. Grown-ups love it too - it's not so sweet as just the fruit juice, but more interesting than fruit juice and water.

Last year I ordered ice tea in America, at San Francisco airport. I literally got some tea with no other additives, except ice cubes. Looked and tasted awful! I was expecting the ice tea that the Americans used to serve in the 70s, full of spices, sugar and additives....

But to return to our summer and fruity drinks: How do we keep the wasps away?

Doversole Mon 23-Jul-18 11:25:09

Also tonic water with ice and a dash of angostura bitters. This comes out a very pretty pink colour. feels a bit decadent.

MissAdventure Mon 23-Jul-18 11:24:39

That sounds nice. I haven't got any mint growing this year, so I might have to buy some and make my own 'magic water'.

Doversole Mon 23-Jul-18 11:23:48

Tonic water with ice and a crushed mint leaf from the plant outside the back door
