Supermarket delivery men

I have had a delivery woman once or twice. it amazes me how they keep so cheerful carrying those heavy crates in all weathers.

They seem unfailingly cheerful, no matter the weather or circumstances. I have had a woman a couple of times and all our deliveries from Yodel are made by a lovely Eastern European girl. She always asks my Dh if he can manage to lift the parcel himself. He's not that old!

Our delivery men have been unfailingly excellent. More often than not they give me a call to ask if I want an earlier delivery as they are in the area. I only order it so late because it is cheaper so as it makes his job easier we are both happy.

We have only twice, in several years had a woman, much to the disgust of my 5 year old DGD who definitely has the makings of a feminist! When I told the second lady in question she gave DGD a gingerbread man and then went back for two more for her siblings. I have no idea why she had them on the van but in retrospect maybe they should have been gingerbread women!!

We regularly have both men and women who are provided with a very neat trolley on which to stack the boxes. I was told that they have to use the trolleys for health and safety reasons but perhaps all employers don't have the same rules. They are all really helpful people and always cheerful whatever the weather.

There was an item in the news recently about a Tesco delivery driver who took the time and trouble to engage with a small boy with autism. There are kind people out there.

I stay with Tesco because of the delivery men and women, recently my milk wasn’t delivered , whilst chatting to the delivery man he said ‘enjoy your day’ I replied ‘no chance my milkman missed me’ 30 minutes later he called back with a pint of milk from the local shop.

Same here, the Tesco deliverers are unfailingly cheerful and helpful.

Wow, Anniebach and we thought our Tesco deliverymen (only once a woman) were brilliant. They used to be so patient with toddler twins who wanted to ‘help’ carry the items. ( At 7 years old they are no longer bothered!)

Nice to hear of cheery delivery people. Ours are always running off to their next stop so i always try to avoid delaying them in any way it feels like every second counts. So far never had a woman delivering.

I use Tesco and always cheerful and polite despite my property being difficult to find and then up steps.

At present I use Morrisons and I am certain whenever the fellows see the small walk to my front door- no flights of stairs to negotiate, that must lighten their day. In my present state they bring everything into my kitchen because I cannot physically lift 6 cartons of long life milk for example. I would imagine they are on minimum wage and it is a thankless task but they do it so cheerfully.

Am I the only one who finds the delivery people as miserable as can be? I can only assume they are waiting for something better to crop up. I don't make unreasonable demands, delivery is to the doorstep, I manage from there even on crutches. I hate to think how they'd react if I asked them to put it in the kitchen for me as bringing it to the door seems way to much effort. That's Tesco by the way Ocado are much happier but I can't get everything I want at Ocado so mostly I still use Tesco.

Sorry to digress, as we have never had a delivery by any of the grocery shops, but, DH sold his car to a Tesco delivery driver, who had been in our road and saw the For Sale notice in the window. ?

Our Tesco delivery people are lovely - always cheerful despite driving down a bumpy farm road and often whizzing straight past us because the next house, half a mile away, has the same postcode.

They laugh because our cat adores tinned tuna and dances around the kitchen purring loudly when I say, 'All hail, the bringer of tuna!' They have to watch out she doesn't trip them up.

I've never really given much thought to the 'pickers' who load the delivery crates in the supermarket. Last week, however, I was tapped on the shoulder by a smart young woman in uniform pushing a trolley laden with crates, scanner in hand. I didn't recognise her at first but then realised she was an old school friend of one of the DGSs.

I assumed it was a thankless task but she said it's fun imagining what she'd do with all the items she would never normally buy. She's off to uni in September and reckons she'll be the fount of all knowledge where bargains are concerned.

My Ocado man is always a happy chap and a pleasure to see,he has always carried in the boxes to the kitchen after carrying them up one flight of stairs you can imagine the look on his face when we told him last year we where moving to the next Road into a bungalow and he had no more stairs.
