Feeling hurt.

You just ring the palace up giving date and place of marriage. They do the rest. I didn't have to send my parents birth certificate for 70 years of marriage.

My dear Mam and Dad were married almost 56 years when Mam died aged 76.In all that time and until he died last year at 96 he never forgot their anniversary.He always asked me to buy red roses for her and later for her grave. True love!?

Congratulations! Surely it's not too late to arrange something? Perhaps lunch out together today (you can take the initiative?) then a celebration with special people, when you can arrange it?

It would have upset me if OH forgot but as for anyone else I always think it's a personal thing between the couple to celebrate a wedding anniversary

Unless the family always remember your Wedding Anniversary, then I think that you should have started telling them that this years Anniversary was a special one and even started to organise something special with the whole family.
Not just sit there, say nothing and then get upset when they don’t remember,
I’m sure they would all be upset that they didn’t acknowledge it in some way, but probably a bit cross that you didn’t say anything.

But I do congratulate you on 60 years.

Congratulations ?. I think I would feel a little more than miffed. Getting to 60 years is not far short of amazing. Sadly we only got to 38 and I think I'm the only one who remembers the date each year. I bought myself an original picture for what would have been our 40th in lieu of the ruby ring I might have received although I would have probably had to drop big hints

I wouldn't expect anyone else to remember . And maybe OH has some memory problems - perhaps you should have reminded him. I normally say , about a week before, well what do you want to do for our anniversary ? Men often need a bit of encouragement in that area.

I think you are going to have to give you family a mental kick up the arse, by asking subtle questions such as ‘what have you got planned for our x Wedding Anniversary/my Xth birthday/my funeral.

chicken so sorry you are feeling let down. You deserve many congratulations. I am lucky in that my DH is more likely to remember than me ( I have an appalling memory )
I would not however expect anything from our children as we have always felt wedding anniversaries were between the two people who married and nothing to do with anyone else. That's just our opinion and we don't send cards to anyone including our children. I hope you have a good day anyway and many congratulations

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, they really make a difference. No, there won't be any secret surprise celebration. My little "celebration" was telling OH that as it was a special day, I was taking the evening off, so there would be no cooking done and he'd have to fend for himself. Yes, petty I know, but felt good all the same!

Apply for the card yourself! To be honest if you didn't say anything then they probably forgot - but you obviously haven't. Go out somewhere for lunch or dinner tomorrow to mark the day.

Chicken, I am so sorry that your OH didn't remember your 60th Anniversary. So glad that you posted this on Gransnet where you can always find empathy and ? for the disappointments in life. I am the only one in my family who bothers to remember wedding anniversaries. If your children don't normally send a card I doubt they will know it's a special year. My parents never remembered mine, I think that's why I always remember my children's, who never remembered or probably knew mine. Luckily I am now divorced and have an OH instead, so no anniversaries to remember .

However, I'm sorry that you are feeling so disappointed as it obviously matters to you. Tell your DH how you feel and and arrange a belated event to celebrate.

I did the Queens card for my mum and dad 60 th mum particularly was thrilled They were married one day of 70 years

My parents had their 60th earlier this year. It’s not too late to apply for a card. You apply online and send a copy of your marriage cert. congratulations. I eoukd seriously be having words tomorrow with dh and children.

chicken - I am in awe of your restraint. I don't make a big thing of my own birthdays or anniversaries, but if it's a special one I always make sure that family are reminded and know they need to do their duty! I shall be 65 on the 2nd of September and I've hired a house for the week before for all the family to come and stay - so there'll be no excuses for forgetting.

I would feel hurt because we have always celebrated. I was hurt that we were on holiday for my birthday so DH suggested I buy myself a present while we were away!

Do you have children? Did they forget too? I hope that they are actually planning a surprise for you.
