A rather rusty tin of dried eggs from WW2!

Diggingdoris Wed 18-Jul-18 14:40:37

You can send the Pernot my way! With soda water it's my fave! Makes me squiffy rather quickly!

Nanny27 Wed 18-Jul-18 14:38:03

Some of this sounds yummy. I love sloe gin.......and mead.

mgtanne71 Wed 18-Jul-18 13:54:53

Oh, I think I'll try the gingerbread with Mead sauce. Sounds great!

mgtanne71 Wed 18-Jul-18 13:53:01

I can't add anything I'm afraid but I have really enjoyed reading these posts!

A bottle of Royal Mint Chocolate Liqueur that I bought in Germany in 1982. It is very well travelled, having accompanied me to Hong Kong and 6 further house moves. It now has pride of place at the back of my drinks cabinet. Not sure if I could actually let it go now!

Minimoon, you can add hearts of palm to salads. They are very popular in Brazil and called "palmito" in Portuguese.

A bottle of Pernot which we bought for the self-run bar at our wedding 49 years ago.

BonnieBlooming Wed 18-Jul-18 13:18:29

3/4 bottle or plum vodka. Our new neighbours gave it to us at Christmas and my husband had the bright idea of adding it to prosecco. We were watching The Crown at the time and there is a whole episode I have no memory off! First time in 62 years I was actually drunk. Never again, it can go!

Gosh, I read slugs in sloe gin in JackyB's post. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there wasn't a jar of that in the back of my larder from The Harrod's Peasant Food Hamper c1975. DH's boss used to give us a hamper every year full of really unappetising things.

Hugh Fearlessly EatsItAll once prepared battered slugs in chilli and tomato sauce. Staff at River Cottage said: We would heartily recommend this dish ... if you left out the slugs.

Cheating a bit here and offering something from the current Fortnum and Mason Burlington Hamper. Sultry Smoky Nuts which I imagine are like posh Nobby's Nuts. I will leave you all to ponder how a nut gets to be sultry. It's probably the weather.

I have a tin of spam that DH bought because he might fancy it - and now doesn't.

Blinko Wed 18-Jul-18 11:36:20

Dolce Latte anyone? I seem to have acquired a bottle and have no idea what it's for. It's kind of fudge coloured....

JackyB Wed 18-Jul-18 11:27:53

(Rolling sleeves up)

Right - just fry a chopped onion and some chopped spuds, then stir in the meat pate, pour over the kangaroo soup. Add a tin of peas from someone else's cupboard. Pot mess. Main course done.

Whilst it's simmering, serve a starter of the fish pate garnished with quail's eggs.

Several slugs of sloe gin needed after that lot!

Um. As for the mead ... not sure. If you can't drink it, boil it up with some arrowroot as a sauce and pour over slices of gingerbread for a pud?

Alypoole Wed 18-Jul-18 11:02:39

And me!

JujuD Wed 18-Jul-18 10:47:18

Me, me, me!

GeorgieKay Wed 18-Jul-18 10:16:49

A bottle of dessert wine, I don't know anyone who would drink it !!

DanniRae Wed 18-Jul-18 09:16:45

I would like to give a box of chocolates that someone gave me for my recent birthday - they look delicious and it's best I get them out of the house before I give in and eat them all grin

jenpax Wed 18-Jul-18 09:01:55

Course meat pate! as I am a vegetarian (and my friend who gave me the hamper knew this) this was a strange gift?

Teetime Wed 18-Jul-18 08:28:15

Bottle of sloe gin, several different mustards, tin of prunes.

Greenfinch Wed 18-Jul-18 06:51:03

I have a jar of quails eggs given in a Christmas hamper which I can't really fancy and have been unable to give away even though still in date.

Marydoll Wed 18-Jul-18 06:48:30

A tin of sardine and tuna paté, given as a gift from holiday and regifted to me.?

12Michael Wed 18-Jul-18 06:40:34

I gather Chris Froome who is in Tour De France cycle race as a craving for octopus curry.

In a previous thread meltingmacaron mentioned the old favourite Ready Steady Cook.
There was a carrier bag of ingredients to make a meal from.
Not sure how the rest of the show went as I haven't got a telly.

What would you gladly contribute be glad to be shot of to the bag.

I can start us off.
I have a tin of Kangaroo tail soup.
It was in my Grandmothers pantry long before I was born. I remember as a child being fascinated by it.

My Grandmother acquired it when a well off maiden Aunt died and my Grandfather in an eccentric twist insisted on keeping everything she owned even though my Grandparents were very comfortably off themselves.

Heaven knows how old the soup is, the Aunt died in 1969 and she was 96yrs old.
