My council are (swear word)

I give up. The chap from MIND didn’t even get a call back. I had the scooter stuck in the small hall with the bathroom door wide open, a very small hall.

I phone council again, some one from planning phoned me back, arranged to visit week last Monday. No problem , I can have a shed at the front of bungalow, yippee. Just fill in a form.

Four page form arrived yesterday, I can’t keep pigeons and if I want to keep poultry it must be in the back garden !

Waded through the form, shed must not be more that 5’8” high. My scooter with the canopy I have ordered and paid for and is being made will be 6’. Phoned planning , buy a smaller canopy !

So scooter with fixed canopy will have to be parked in the Hall come winter.

A mobility scooter seemed such a good idea !

Nfk, thank you for that advice, I have been loaned an old scooter to see how I can cope with using one and leaving the bungalow . Tried it Wednesday , very frightening,

That was quite some battle over the Pine.

If you can have a shed make sure it has a flattish entry so you can drive it in. My DM had a shed for hers and a wooden ramp shich a nice council carpenter came and made for her.

We’ve just had a professor come from Cambridge (two and a half hours drive away) especially to say if we can take six feet off one branch of a fifty foot luxurious Scots pine. It has a tree preservation order on it and we had to go to appeal! She wasn’t best pleased. I don’t know why she was grumbling, I bet she got well paid for her trouble.

Update on my scooter parking

I told a friend from MIND, she brought another staff member to meet me, I explained the nonsense I had from the council etc.

He has taken it up, made a complaint re mental and physical disabilities, and — - - - -

The country architect will visit me to discuss my options .

The county architect just for a parking spot for a scooter !

He only turns up for extensions and new builds

To be fair Annie I suspect they are just covering their backsides but from my own experience, my ordinary scooter copes admirably with a trundle across the lawn or playing field. And this is my 4th one I think .

I have been on considerably rougher terrain also and had no problems.

Annie don't give up whatever you do and playing the discrimination cards seems a good plan.

We had a letter this week threatening us with a bill for using the 'pull out service' for our wheelie bin as they are not sure that we qualify! Grr! How disabled and unable do you need to be we are wondering! They have already had a Dr's letter and we are now having to pay for each one of those too. You couldn't make all these things up could you?!

Anniebach you have my sympathies! I was hitting my head against a brick wall constantly with our HA and council but thanks to the OTs advice I did what SueDonim suggests and used the Disability discrimination card and followed that with the Age discrimination one as well and it worked!
It also helped that I insisted on getting the names of the people I spoke to each time, noting them and then quoting them in any letters and calls.

I am not giving up on this, if the town councillor fails to help it will be my AM next. I will contact my GP, physiotherapist and occupational therapist for letters of support. The council are forcing me to be housebound are they not?

I'd use the disability discrimation card, I think. They can't be seen to be breaking the law, surely?

I have just been online trying to find out who the 2 people from the mental health service who are coming to see OH are (nurse/doctor?) - all I can get a garbage spiels about "our vision" etc. and the service itself is called "2Gether" (cringe) - crazy stuff!

Annie -I do hope you find an answer to your problem - it seems so simple - but never is!!

I am now tempted to put a scooter shed slam in the front of the bungalow, that will bring someone around here.

Write to your MP Annie if there is no answer to this from the council.You can’t be lugging a scooter up a step.
The trouble is sometimes, if a question is asked that isn’t on the regular easy to answer questions list, then council employees flounder around.

Asked the groundsman this morning, no I can’t put the path down even though it’s waste ground which no one uses.

Town councillor next, I am fed up with this .

It's atemporary pathway, Annie, I don't see why you couldn't use it. That's assuming it's not a communal area of grass, which might be different.

Sue, that is great, if I am given permission to lay it , I could time the grass cutters and whip it up before they were due, well my son in law who isn’t could, I am now hopeful .

MOnica, that is so wrong, I asked if my wheelie bin could be put back from whence it was collected, five steps from where they leave it, I have to submit a doctors letter , they will take about two weeks to make a decision , yes they always answer the phone

Annie, at least someone answered the phone! DD has a much less critical problem but which shows equal incompetence.

Her garden rubbish used to be collected for free, but this year it was decided there would be an annual charge for the brown bin, which she and many others paid. Last week, three months into the year, there was a news item in her local free paper to say the council was stopping brown bin collections. Sure enough, she put her bin out last week and it wasn't emptied.

She has spent three days this week trying to ring the council to find out when they will reimburse her for the nine months of the annual charge when there will be no service. Not once has the phone been answered.

I meant that councils have no money to employ the type of people who would answer your query, not that you were asking them to pay for anything!

Ramps can be portable, they don't need to be permanent.

Do you have a Blue Badge or receive any disability payments? If you are disabled I'd have thought someone would have to be found to do something. Maybe Occupational Health could help.

Really NannaandG? The length of grass is about 17 ft. If I could park it at the back it would be next to the kitchen so easy to charge it.

I read all the blurb on scooters and thought I would have to buy an off roader.

Anniebach the majority of scooters are just fine on grass . They obviously aren't 'off roaders' but what you're describing is fine. I often walk Sam at the dog park and ride mine across grass. Its only if the weather has been VERY bad and the ground very soggy that it might be an issue.

Don't forget , you need access to an electric point for charging.
