Husband selfish with the jigsaw!

This thread has prompted me to get my jigsaw roll and a couple of never-before-done jigsaws out. Might keep me off 'tinterweb-thingy at night!

We've just got a new - and much bigger than I realised in the shop - dining table, so I can spread my jigsaws out and still have room to eat.

I used to take my pieces to work with me.
If not husband do it jig-saw and that drove me nuts .
He never wants to do one of his own .
I f I was you I would locked them in a case lol

Can someone please recommend a good online jigsaw?

Our charity shop doesn’t check them but swaps without question if told there’s a piece missing. The incomplete jigsaw is not put back on sale.
Some people thoughtfully check jigsaws and seal the pieces in a plastic bag (marked ‘complete’) before donating. Then the office issued a decree that the plastic bags must be removed as they were a potential danger to children ...

I love jigsaws, but they are a constant bone of contention. I actually prefer sky to the easy bits, but then when I say I want all the blue bits, my fellas tell me that that blue bit isn't sky, it's sea. And someone always nicks a piece so they can pride themselves on finishing the thing.

Annep, have you tried Wasgij puzzles? I love them, and they hardly ever have blocks of boring sky, trees or water. The picture is not actually of the jigsaw, but of what the people in the jigsaw are looking at! There are lots of them, and I pick them up in car boot sales and charity shops for only a pound or two.
I always look for puzzles with lots of figures and action going on. A while ago I did a 3,000 pieces one, which took about 3 months in fits and starts, and covered my entire 6ft x 3ft table. It was a comic skating scene, with dozens of figures, and was quite a challenge.
My late husband used to sneak pieces into my puzzles, and my Mum used to finish them after I had gone to bed, much to my annoyance. I miss them both.

I always tip a fist full of pieces at a time into the lid and sort out the corners and edges before I even start putting the puzzle together. I break the puzzle up when I have a new one to start. I store them in the spare room as I like to do them again after a few months.

I tried the Wednesday cryptic Eglantine21 and couldnt get one answer. So I looked at the answers in Thursdays paper. I could not work out how some answers were arrived at. I think I will keep trying though. It's good to stretch your brain.

I do the crossword with my husband. We take the clues one by one in order, musing over them together.

We nearly come to blows I will stab him with the b***dy pen one day because while I write an answer in he is looking at the next clue on his own and gets first thoughts on it.
He doesn't want to do the writing because "you always write them in and it won't be the same".

Our local charity shop’s happy to accept puzzles with pieces missing, they say most people don’t mind. I don’t myself, tbh, but would rather know in advance! I always just break them up as soon as they’re done and donate them back, but make sure I put a note on if they’re not complete.

My younger brother was like that Bathsheba. Used to leave it in the table and no one was allowed to touch it. bless him.

Yes I looked after a young lady like that too shysal she was brilliant with puzzles.
People used to bring puzzles to the residential home and say "there are only one or two pieces missing but they will be ok for the mentally handicapped" Grrr grrr.

We used to give respite care for a young lady with severe learning difficulties when her parents needed a break. She couldn't read but would do 1000 piece puzzles in a few hours without even looking at the picture. It would often turn out upside down but she wouldn't even notice. She went by feel and a sort of sixth sense and always knew if a piece was in the wrong place. She was amazing!
Only problem was that she insisted on keeping the completed jigsaws on sheets of hardboard under the bed, refusing to have them rolled. What do you do with yours when you have finished?

I agree - always corners and straight edges first.

Jigsaws in this house are a winter late afternoon activity. I like doing the corners and edges first, OH kept telling me this is unnecessarily anal so I told him to start the next one his way. He has agreed my way is best! Result!!!

We enjoy the wasgij ones which we do without looking at the picture, a very satisfying challenge and they never have acres of sky.

Just reached the difficult bit with mine, the trees.
Husband did this one and it took him three weeks. I have had it about three days and am determined to finish soon to show my superiority!

Love jigsaws, and have no problems with helpers. In fact I have a new one each Christmas and encourage people to join in on boxing day.

Oh I hate sharing jigsaws, can't bear anyone coming in to 'help' . I'm the same with crosswords too - buy your own flippin' newspaper to do the crossword, or at the very least take a photocopy and do it yourself!
