Maw Aww! the photo of Flynn is a winner. As for sampling the wine cellar...why not. It's a treat to share a glass with convivial company. A little of what you fancy, does you no harm.

Greyduster When we lived in Cornwall, I motored along the winding lane to Fowey every day where I managed a shop called - 'The Romantic Englishwoman'. In summertime, I had to park way out of the town as the streets were choker-bloc with visitors. The shop did a roaring trade. Winter, on the other hand, was awfully quiet. There were days when no one came into the shop. I couldn't bear to leave without any takings in the till, so I'd often buy potpourri or a wee gift for a member of the family.

kitty The kittens are adorable. I'm so pleased that I'm too far away to pay a visit. I know that I wouldn't leave without one.

ChaosInc Look out images of your trio, not necessarily on the same photo. I can use "artistic licence" and combine the individuals on one painting. I would very much like clear facial images. I have to get cracking on the wild cat portrait first. Three weeks or so from now, would be an ideal time to start your gift.

Oh dear I am feeling a little fragile
Back from granny duty in Birmingham on Thursday so that DD1 and SIL could go to DD2’s “Duchess of Malfi” at Stratford and have a belated anniversary dinner. Drove back yesterday afternoon which was quite busy and tiring but just in time to collect Hattie.
I had had to pop out for milk yesterday early evening and returned to hear my good friends 2 doors down offer me a glass of wine with them in their garden.
It is a lovely time for them as their daughter gets married next Saturday and I was permitted a sneaky peek at the FOB’s speech. So we started on Pineau des Charentes which I only discovered this morning is 17% .( Moving on to rosé but then back again) I think I should have realised how strong it had been as I took Hattie for a slightly less than straight bedtime walkie! Fortunately there is never anybody about at walkie time. Then it was an especially hot and sticky night with very disturbed sleep.
So I have had a bit of a late start and feel less than perky this morning!
I am hoping the SW is marginally less hot and sticky as I am off to Somerset tomorrow for a few days with DD and the children.
Is this the same rope bridge Greyduster? DD was rehearsing with Kneehigh in Cornwall for a month last summer which although hard work, had some benefits at weekends! The whole family moved down for the duration and Flynn just loved it!

N&G I am torn between joining you in the pool and visiting corner and the lovely sea breeze at her abode. I do not know where either of you live so it would be the nearest methinks. The easy way out in this hot weather.

Charley , Sam's blanket is soaked in cold water , rung out and that's it . It does take a bit of wringing but its funny stuff, when dry its solid . Its quite thick too. But it works really well and does not drip .

Its got to be catalogue shopping all the way for your SiL Nannytopsy , at least then she can order anything that looks right in all the sizes and try it on in the comfort of her own home.

Oh dear Ann , M & S have certainly lost their way with the clothes. I only shop for food and home in there now whereas once upon a time.....

My sympathies grey :-) I too would have wanted to be in the water, I'm afraid I cannot go to the coast without getting at least my feet wet . Its too hot for climbing , walking or sometimes even sitting up !! I would have happily joined you with a cold drink people watching - that's as much exercise as I need in this weather.....

although...…. Grampy cleaned the pool yesterday and forgot he was refilling it, so it is now filled to the top and it has been calling my name. I have a large ( VERY large) rubber ring that looks like a doughnut with sprinkles , which I am going to wedge my plus size bottom in later and cheerfully bob up and down and drink things with ice in !!!

Hello, the kitchen. I am a mass of aches and pains today after a day of almost non stop walking at Fowey and Heligan in baking weather. Fowey was lovely - quite charming; I could cheerfully have just sat on the harbour all day and watched all the different boats sail past Daphne Du Maurier’s house (the blue and white house in the picture) but we covered the ground, looked in the shops, and then walked up (and up and up and up!!) to the castle which turned out to be just a tower. What really knocked my duck off was that there was a gorgeous little cove below it where people were swimming and I desperately wanted to join them! GS was, unusually, mega grumpy, so I had my work cut out to cheer him up yesterday. Surprisingly, he perked up when we got to Heligan, and he really enjoyed it - especially the Burma rope bridge (I would have liked to have shut my eyes but you have to see see where you are putting your feet!). So did we, though DH said he would have liked a full day there really, and to have gone earlier in the year when more plants were in bloom. Is it too much to hope that today will be a do nothing day? Crabbing has been mentioned........

Come for a visit charley, sun is just peeping through and there’s a nice breeze, if we can stir a walk on the beach before it gets busy otherwise is on the agenda otherwise it’s feet up in the garden today.

Our friend was discharged yesterday evening, still very groggy so straight home to bed and sleep. Will chat over the weekend, she’s too far away for a quick visit. Suspect she won’t know outcome yet but good to hear she coped with the anaesthetic, she usually opts for spinal anaesthetic after some bad experiences with GA but no choice this time.

Another worry for you and your village pals soop, that sounds a dreadful accident with a long recovery road ahead.

A seriously quiet weekend planned here after a busy week with more busyness to come next week. A mix of granny detail, social stuff and tedious but has-to-be done home related stuff to come.

Cornwall sounds superb greyd, although you are being far too active for me. Sorry your home viewers are being deterred panache, sounds more like excuses than reasons. I sometimes wished viewers would just say nothing rather than look for an excuse to explain their lack of interest. Sometimes people and homes just don’t gel and that’s all it is.

Apologies to all I have missed. The head is full I fear.

chaosinc we currently 5 cats, a black neutered Tom (Kiwi) a black and white female (Maisie) and her 3 kittens. We will keep one of the kittens and someone came yesterday to choose one, so we have one male left!

`Morning all.....another weekend and I suppose a new lot of holidaymakers will be trawling through our areas,a busy month August with you name it ...its happening.

All these dog pictures are a heart break for me,I love dogs so much and since losing our beauties not a day goes by without feeling this hiraeth (welsh for heartache)
They are so loyal and truly do give love that is not replaceable.
Whilst in one of my "Moods" time perhaps to pen a poem............sometimes that helps.

Shopping to be completed as quick as one can........there will be a call in M & S.......the FoodHall...........we pass through the ladies clothes section and I whole heartedly agree,I would not give them time of day, even if given to me.
They did strike lucky with a red/navy/white spotted jump suit a little while ago.It was at a very good price and none of their stores were able to hold on to it for they sold out pronto...............so why not more of the same... instead of extra large backs that no one wishes to be seen in??

Chaos I just love your three dogs and it is very brave to tale on the momentous task of looking after three blind beauties. They have been added to my list for extra cuddles- Hattie and Sam are top of the list.

Tara appeared at 10pm last night- I was almost going to have a shower when madam appeared. Because I have had a lot done to this house recently the front bedroom is more of a junk room with little furniture. Tara appears to have moved off her single bed in the 3rd bedroom and on to the floor under a kitchen stool to attempt to keep cool during the night. She does not like fans which is a pity.

Another steamy day in London- I have had enough.

My sympathies are with all of the kitchen ladies experiencing grief, or worries about friends and relatives, this evening. Sometimes life just seems so......lousy! and unfair.
I live by myself, so it never seems very sensible to drown the sorrows.

DGS's were here most of the day. Little guy demonstrated remarkable skill in demolishing sandwiches cake and bananas at record speed, poking everything in the side of his mouth to avoid the traumatised front teeth! I was very impressed....he is only 3!

I don't know if the dress I've noticed is the one you mention, ann. They have one in the 'curve' section that would qualify for your description and I do hope that no 'larger' lady would give it a second look.

It is not given to me to make nasty comments but talking plus sizes, have you seen the latest offering for the "larger lady" from M&S?
It is referred to as LWD, substitute larger for little and you get the idea.
A pack of small cub scouts could camp in it for the weekend.
I am plus size myself but wouldn't be seen in this dress.

Oh what a day! As a “plus size” ( to use the euphemism) I know that the high street is an awful place to shop. My s-I-l is 4 stone over her normal weight and is trying to buy a wedding outfit. In the tail end of the sales. On the high street. Nuff said?

Oh kitty...our friend makes umpteen appointments for eye tests. The manager of the care home is very attentive. The optician possibly less so. Our friend tells us that he likes to be seen by "the lady with the lumpy jumper..." Don't ask. We just nod in agreement.

Away to ride the bike. After which, who knows what mischief I shall get up to.

How sad for your freind in the village soop. Your friend and his optician made me smile. Every time my mum passed an optician she went in asking for an eye test. They gave her an appointment and then she promptly forgot about it and called into another one. I eventually took her to ours and he said she had been refused a free eye test as she had had so many.

I join you lovely lot rather late in the day. Apologies. I see that you haven't been sitting around doing nowt. Do you ever!

Grey Please may I join you in a darkened room? granniequeenie too. We took the head phones to our pal in the care home. He can now listen to talking books on his personal CD player. Now, he tells us, he would like a pair of turquoise reading specs. Blow me down with a feather. He's managed to get yet another appointment with his long-suffering optician.

I'm glad that our Ann enjoyed both company and bubbly. You are never far from our thoughts.

A very pleasant, active man living in the village, (early 50s) had a dreadful accident a couple of days ago. He has broken bones in his lower and upper spine. Airlifted to Glasgow hospital. Waiting to hear the scan results. Whatever the outcome, he's going to be incapacitated for many months.
