Have asooper birthday tomorrow soop.
DH'S 73Rd today but it is also the first home game of the season so he has gone to the pub with DS1 and I'm having lamb chops and revelling in the Peace and quiet after quite an emotional day volunteering.
I also had an emotional day yesterday. I met friends for lunch and discovered 2 sisters I knew through my children have dementia, one of their husbands is really ill with cancer and someone who was at school with dh has a husband with parkinsons disease and parkinsons related dementia. Then i met a friend in Waitrose who seemed anxious about her husband wandering off with the shopping trolley and, when I said that he wouldn't go far, told me that he had a brain tumour and maybe he wouldn't be going anywhere soon.
One of my friends from lunch who is 82 had fallen off her grandsons mountain bike (!!!!) and broken her arm and I can see how that could have a massive impact on her life going forward. She can't drive, feels unsafe walking and is having to stay with her daughter. Of course we have offered lifts but it's not the same at all.
Whilst, naturally, regretting my awfully crass remark to my friend in the supermarket, I feel somewhat shattered. I know it's not about me but it seems to have hit home. I've been quite nice to dh today.
Sorry, this is all very self indulgent but I feel quite emotional about it all.
