I really want to tell you all about the super day we had yesterday and spread the word about the Stamford Shakespeare Company.

They are an amateur company who have a short season every summer when they put on two Shakespeare Plays and one non-Shakespeare. The theatre is an outdoor stage, with the stalls under cover, in the grounds of a former country house.

We went to see The Merchant of Venice (DH's favourite, as you could tell by the muttering when they got to bits he recalled from school!). The acting was superb, the set incredible and the costumes brilliant.

If you have the opportunity to go and experience the whole atmosphere, I urge you to. There are lots of other lovely places to visit in the area including Stamford, Oakham, Melton Mowbray, Rutland Water and countless pretty, small villages.

And, no-one paid me for that!! Can you tell that we loved it? DH found out about it from one of his 'passengers' who has been going with a friend from University for well over 20 years.

While we were there, I got a text message saying 'Hi, I've just got my new phone, this is the number'. We were baffled for quite a while until be got another message telling us that it was 11 year old grandson who has now been allowed a phone as he is going to big school. I'm hoping the novelty wears off soon as replying to him is quite time consuming.

I have just renewed my car insurance on line- horrendous but only up £3 since last year. I am sure that mini cabs would be cheaper but not so convenient.

Glad you are OK Soop. Your mishap could have been so much worse. A colleague of DH's did the same as you in needing a nocturnal loo trip, only he fell down the stairs and became a quadraplegic. Poor man.

Oh dear. soop, what next? No, don't answer that! There won't be a next time, will there? Do take it easy and protect your precious prostheses! Gentle exercise - because bruising often stiffens up after a little while - though wouldn't recommend that bike for the time being!

I took a nasty tumble in the early hours. I'm used to visiting the bathroom for several wees during the night thanks to on-going prolapse troubles. I recall getting to the bath and stepping back in the direction of the lavvy. Next thing I knew I had fallen backwards with a hefty wallop, The right hip prosthesis made a clonking sound as I hit the floor. MacSporran came to my rescue. My right buttock is bruised and I'm sitting awkwardly as it is very sore. We've had our usual walk and, although it was uncomfortable climbing the hill, it was doable. I think that it's best to keep moving in a gentle fashion. My sympathies to my Gransnet pals with similar (and worse) discomforts to bear.

I had one of my birthday meals there and it was lovely.
It is very dull here and has been muzzling all morning ,though it may have stopped now.
I have mince and chicken defrosting to make some meals for when H is home again, the simpler life is with him the better.
My D is coming on Tuesday until the weekend so I am also getting a room ready, but sooner for one than four I'm pleased to say.

I'm doing some tidying in preparation for invasion by NZ nephew, his wife and two daughters this pm. They're just staying one night but the same preparations (apart from food) have to be made as if they were here for a week. Restaurant booked for this evening to save me the hassle of cooking.
It's a cool, grey morning. I think the sun has forgotten Cheshire, but at least I can manage to finish some ironing without breaking into a sweat!

It has been so hot here that my small freezer has been struggling. It is going to get hotter (33C) so heaven knows what will happen.

I am sorry to hear Grampy has been poorly and hope he is on the mend now. And Panache I feel for you. With Paws many issues nearly all stemming from bowel illness (UC since his teens ) I feel quite familiar with some of the ramifications and the restrictions on one’s life.
And Annsixty do make the most of your break. Yes you are missing your OH, but I suspect you are missing the man he was not the status quo.
No doubt there will be banana skins in my path (not big ones please) but oddly enough I feel in a way I have little to complain about as the “worst” is behind me, just a case of adapting to a different life. OK ”just” is not quite the word, and I hope Aggie doesn’t feel I am taking things lightly.
But what can’t be cured must be endured? Life is precious and complaining won’t cure anything

All is calm at Duster Towers at the moment. DH has eschewed Andrew Marr for Classic FM and I am contemplating a second cup of coffee - if he can be persuaded to get up and make it! At the moment it is cool and grey (the weather, not the coffee) and I hope it will remain so as I am cooking roast lamb for the family later. We have GS for a couple of nights this week and chances are he will try and tack tonight onto that as he is over here already. I can’t put up with that!. They are off on holiday on Thursday and we will join them sometime early next week.
Panache you called me a traitor to be deserting West Wales for Cornwall this year ?, and I immediately started looking at the cottage site we always use for possibilities for next year. I read that the National Trust have closed Barrafundle because they are getting too many visitors using the beach. Hope they don’t do the same at Marloes (love Marloes). And the school holidays have only just started!
Galen I need you round here. I started sorting DH’s cupboards and drawers a couple of days ago. He had a fit of the vapours when he saw what I was throwing away, so I will have to try a more circumspect approach!

We missed our nieces 21st party yesterday as Grampy is still unwell, but this morning with the arrival of some cool air he looks much better. I am hoping he is back in tip top shape by Wednesday as we were supposed to be having the big kids from today.

We hate letting them down but have had to delay by a few days. And then its full on for the summer with one lot of kids or the other .

Sam is even going to get a brief walk this morning whilst its cool . AND there is going to be egg and soldiers for breakfast. Happy days !!!

Another scorcher of a day here today. I am about to wash my hair- it should stay reasonable for an hour or so.

Cannot wash clothes as my washing machine has packed up- fellow coming tomorrow. Difficult fitting these around my physio appointments. What else can breakdown here?
