Thoroughly enjoyed watching the opening match last night with my 8 year old footy mad grandson .
And what a match it was too, 5-0 to the hosts Russia . The Saudis might not have been on the pitch at all .

Teresa May has stepped in to say that the Royal Mail workers and others should be allowed to fly the English flag during the tournament, after the misery guts at RM banned it’s workers from doing so. Quite right too .

gillybob, I'm glad you brought this up. I use the mobile site on my phone and tablet. There is a vertical list at the top of the page. When I try to write a post the box to type in isn't there. I found my way, eventually, to the desktop site and tried to start a new discussion, but the page I was directed to remained blank. I emailed GNHQ, but I think it was too late for the office staff. I'll see what happens tomorrow.
Sorry about hyjacking the football thread.
I'm enjoying the game.

What's VER for for if we didn't get a penalty for what happened to Harry Kane? Shocking bl**dy decision!! angry

gillybob Mon 18-Jun-18 19:52:27

Is anyone else having problems with
site on iPad / iPhone ?

gillybob Mon 18-Jun-18 19:51:26

1-1 at half time . Ref should have awarded a penalty against Tunisia but missed it ! Furious doesn’t cover it !

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 19:39:33

I can hear muttering and occasional shouting from the other room.

Time to go and investigate!

merlotgran Mon 18-Jun-18 19:38:57

I've got my headphones on so I can listen to some calming music whilst watching. grin

gillybob Mon 18-Jun-18 19:37:21

I can’t bear this !

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 19:28:52

I didn't think that DH was that interested but he seems to be developing an interest as he gets older

Luckygirl Mon 18-Jun-18 19:25:15

One of the reasons I chose my OH to marry was that he was not remotely interested in football (or indeed any other sport) and I figured this would mean I would never have this inflicted on me on the TV at home - hooray!

However, now that he has very poor mobility and is at home all the time, he has decided to watch the world cup - help!! I think I will creep off to the bedroom and watch Vera on the little TV! grin

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 19:17:46

perhaps I should give in and go and have a look
hmm
I could do my knitting at the same time ...

DH shouting Ohhhhh!!

gillybob Mon 18-Jun-18 19:15:42

Brilliant early goal for England ! Come on 3 Lions !!

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 19:10:00

Lucky you Iam64, I can hear the football from the other room where DH is giving an occasional shout hmm

I do remember that quote, though, by Bill Shankly:
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

hildajenniJ Mon 18-Jun-18 18:50:46

I'm by myself to Iam. Just going for my G&T before the game starts. Come on England
(That's probably the kiss of death) ??

Iam64 Mon 18-Jun-18 18:10:50

Behave Jalima1108, as a very wise man once said, football is more important than life. (well he said something very like that)
I'll be alone in the house because the men are all meeting at someone else's house to drink dirty beer and watch the match together. I will watch the match and continue crocheting the blanket I'm making. Bliss.

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 17:21:33

I'll bet you know the soccer CVs of every English player
hmm is Beckham still captain, or is it Rooney now?

humptydumpty Mon 18-Jun-18 13:57:49

Gilly is it really the case that it's not allowed to watch live sport on PC without a workplace licence? I have always peeked at BBC sports coverage of tennis during Wimbledon, had no idea it might be illegal!

Rufus2 Mon 18-Jun-18 12:56:24

oh, England are on tonight!
See how little I know
Jalima; You must be kidding! I'll bet you know the soccer CVs of every English player grin
And you should have advised Gillybob and her Grandson to yell every time England score, not just when.! If the detectors exist and are around they'll let you off anyway when England win! wink

BTW; Our free-to-air TV Soccer channel is showing all 3 matches tonight live, end to end, with no adverts.
How about that for customer service? The envy of the soccer world!. grin

I'm afraid I won't have the stamina to last out to 3 a.m. to cheer England on as promised; at least I'll be watching the full ad-free repeat tomorrow!
So let's hear it for the Poms!
Good Health and Good Viewing

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 11:13:29

oh, England are on tonight!

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 11:12:52

I won't advise you to watch it in case you got caught - but those detector vans don't go round any more ...
I would probably watch it (if I was that interested of course)

Just don't drape the place with flags, scarves and yell when England score

gillybob Mon 18-Jun-18 10:29:19

I'm not sure Bellanonna I only have a mini so it wouldn't be great, but better than a phone I suppose.

Looking forward to watching the England match tonight with my grandson. He asked me if I had my England strip to wear while we watched. Yikes.

Bellanonna Mon 18-Jun-18 09:23:57

Could you use an iPad gillybob?

gillybob Mon 18-Jun-18 08:25:25

It is confusing isn’t it Maggie apparently the device has to be battery powered not able to run on the mains ?????

It bugs me that they lump all businesses together . I’m sat on my own most days . No public coming and going either .

Maggiemaybe Mon 18-Jun-18 07:56:13

That seems unfair, gillybob. Could you not watch on a personal laptop not plugged into the mains? I'm trying to make sense of the TV Licensing website here (not an easy task)!

gillybob Sun 17-Jun-18 19:18:52

Apparently I need a workplace licence even if I’m on my own and it’s my own company Jalima Crackers isn’t it ? I can watch on my phone but I can’t see the enjoyment in that.

Anyway I enjoyed the Mexico v Germany match today . Germany were expected to win so I was happy for Mexico who won
1-0

Jalima1108 Sun 17-Jun-18 19:12:45

Turns out my £150.50 doesn’t cover that .
Can it not be seen as an extension of your home tv licence? That does seem a bit unfair
