If that is the case, where are the published accounts of expenditure (e.g. cost of private jets), against income (trade contracts won, numbers of tourists visited per member of Royal Family)??

I have a - probably naive view - that tourists come to see the UK's heritage - be it country houses, castles, landscape and parks, and even museums and galleries.

Or do they just come to catch a fleeting glimpse of a member of the hereditary monarchy, and spend their tourist cash in a gift shop, cafe or pub?

Is there any evidence at all that the monarchy attracts foreign investment or trade in goods (excluding royal memorabilia) or services?

And such a long walk to the door! and searching in her shopping bag for the key. oh dear you've started my imagination lol.

The DM have changed the amount in the story to £6,000 - wonder what the true cost was? For all we know he may have been loaned the plane. Those who are always so quick to condemn the DM seem to be accepting this story to be absolute fact.

Another query, should have struck me from the start, £37,000 for a helicopter trip. For that amount he should have been able to hire a fleet of helicopters to circumnavigate the world.

I wonder if it is a case of a slipped comma and it is really £3,700. That sounds much nearer the mark.

I rarely cast an opinion but I do have one with this. I think the Royal Family make us the nation who we are. They work very hard. Would you like the job of knowing your whole life was diaried for you? You have no true privacy, as everyone wants a bit of you?

I know I wouldn't want that job - so praise those who do it for us.

I have tried to verify the facts about the claim of this thread.

Perhaps we should query the accuracy of this claim before passing judgement

I won't take responsibility for the "waste of space" comment but stand by my comment that they are bl**dy hypocrites" which I don't think is nasty at all, just my opinion that people who tell others that they shouldn't do something and then go ahead and do it themselves are bl**dy hypocrites.

I suppose calling somebody a “complete waste of space” or “bl**dy hypocrites” seems quite nasty to me. I’m neutral about the RF by the way.

I met Prince Edward 9 years ago when my youngest DS received his Gold D of E award at St.James Palace.

He was extremely humble and friendly, very knowledgeable about each young persons journey through D of E and made a point of spending several minutes with each parent.

He cannot help being born into the RF. PE and his wife have kept their heads down and got on with Royal duties. They also keep their 2 Children out of the public eye.

As for the cost of his flight, as mentioned on the Wright Show this morning, the accounts vary from £5,000 up to £35.000, surely they cannot all be correct.

Firstly I don't think that is a UK website and those figures are hugely disputable B9exchange. Secondly as I have said lots of times before, the money they do generate is confined to a few spots within the areas they frequent (mainly London). They bring nothing at all to the NE economy .

Any rf tourists are confined to certain rf spotting areas though*Hooty*. They do not benefit the country as a whole and given the extortionate cost of security for the recent wedding I would imagine a huge loss regardless of swelled passenger numbers travelling through Heathrow.

Are we sure this amount is correct?? It seems extortionate! You can hire a private jet from Bournemouth to manchester for less than £4000. I know someone who has just done it.
