I’ve been at several events where the Queen was present, butI’ve never actually met her. I wonder if I would bow. If I curtseyed now I’d probably fall over.

One thing I do know, I would only bow to proper royals, not people like Meghan or even Kate. Kate has almost convinced me she’s a proper royal, but not quite so far.

Oh I was introduced to someone quite important in industry a while back and if I hadn’t known who he was I would have been fine, but someone had the bright idea of telling me in advance along with a few horror stories about him. When he came over to me to chat and shake my hand I was like a snivelling idiot !

Someone said to me once that you should never feel nervous about meeting anyone, or if someone is being particularly unpleasant to you, then just look at them and imagine them sitting on the loo doing what needs to be done.

I’m off out as well for a very enjoyable day - lunch with an old friend, then nurse to get ears syringed (not so enjoyable), shopping for new baby gift, dinner with DD then look after DGD while her mum attends school prize giving.

Too many good things in life to fritter away time complaining. (Even the ear syringing-will get a laugh with practice nurse!! )

It was my DH who mentioned bottling the royal sh*t Katek , it’s really not like him to crack a joke either.

Not sarcasm either just a passing comment when watching the guys chatting about emptying the royal septic tank. Although I was sure their poo must’ve smelled of roses I was very wrong.

I will take a look gillybob, sorry, didn't mean to doubt your word, but it could have been in the msm again! I'm just saying I don't remember anyone curtseying or bowing when PC came to plant our tree. I expect the advice not to try to shake hands unless one of the RF offers their hand first is a sensible one - they could end up with very painful hands after a day of enduring enthusiastic handshaking from the adoring public.

I once was told that if each of us do our bit how ever small it will have a ripple effect like throwing a peeble in a pond. I still try to beleive that.

Got to go out now, but I agree about bowing etc , but see that as tradition, like shaking hands with the vicar etc it’s just etiquette, doesn’t just apply to Royals , if the good someone who ever they maybe out weighs the bad, I’m all for it .

If you’re unhappy (sorry that should perhaps read ‘hate’) the institution of the RF and all that they represent, then that’s fine - each to their own. The vitriol and venom voiced towards individual members of a family whom you don’t even know are what I find hard to understand. They had no more choice in the circumstances of their birth than we did. Repeating the sarcasm re bottling excrement says more about the writer than the RF. Any septic tank emptying is gross......not just the RF’s you know!

When these attacks are launched I sometimes wonder if there is an element of jealousy involved?? It often reads like it.

Now posters are going to jump on the bandwagon, rush to each other’s defence and tell me I’m soooo wrong.

It’s not about how terrible life is for others it’s about the hypocrisy and greed of these people that we are supposed to look up to, curtesy and bow to, just because they happened to be born to whom they were.

You know Bridgeit I agree with you about the ripple effect of kindness and good deeds. It’s a moral standard I try to live by.

Brid I think quite a lot of us do our bit in a variety of ways as well as criticising the cocept of monarchy. Sadly doing our bit isn’t always enough is it because action is required at a macro level and for that we need a functioning political system which we certainly haven’t got the benefit of at the moment

It's not a nice job but someone has to do it - and lots of people have septic tanks.

As for bottling it - that must be what they spread on the fields around here.

Prince Charles came to plant a tree where I worked many years ago and no-one was instructed to bow or curtesy (and I don't think anyone would have or in fact did).

What a load of tosh - perhaps if one is being knighted by HM one may bob a thank you (knees permitting) but I don't believe the Heathrow story either.

And as for school children being 'instructed' to wave flags - this is not a totalitarian state, they can if they wish or not as they (or their parents) wish.
