The Royal Scots club in Abercrombie Place is very nice. Its 2 streets down from Princes St.
The poor old ROSL was very run down. It'll take a fortune to upgrade. I suppose it'll be turned into yet another hotel.

I don't think so. I've been there with groups in the past. We had a lovely Christmas meal one year with a group of ladies none of whom was a member. I was the speaker at another group of ladies. We had a beautiful private room. Not expensive either.
It's a lovely venue with an interesting history: it was set up after WW1. Money was raised for some sort of memorial and the organisers decided to set up a club that would be for the benefit and use of all ranks not just the usual sort of officers only posh club. It's now virtually a hotel as far as I can see.

I remember our first ever Gransnet “conference” at the ROSL . Organised by Elegran we had some excellent speakers. I and a few others stayed there overnight too. Sad to hear it’s closing

I know some of the members of ROSL didn't like the Royal Scots as it had a very different atmosphere and was more "military". I'd love to know what you all got up to in order to do so much damage !

Yet another "institution" of Princes Street to disappear. Very sad.

The newspaper article said some people said it was 'military'. I've actually been there and it wasn't at all like that. It was just like a hotel with some very nice function rooms.

Sad news. We stayed that night gillybob and thought that the atmosphere was more important than smartness.

Yes. It was pretty scruffy and run down but it was much loved and the wear and tear came from lots and lots of use by people who enjoyed being there.
I gather from interested parties that there is an absolute feeding scramble by developers desperate to snap it up. It's such a prime location. Another bit of old Edinburgh up the Swanee.

Sad to hear about ROSL. I’ve been to the Royal Scots club and found it really good, with a pleasant atmosphere.
Always felt ROSL was ‘our’ place, though. ?

Never been to Royal Scots Club myself but a friend who stayed there said it was good. Certainly worth a try and it's the great company that makes these meeting so enjoyable, so happy to try anywhere personally.
