Just read a new thread on 'Relationships' and it just seemed strange seeing SO MANY posts with names I've never see before! hmm ..me being bit paranoid??

Maggiemaybe Thu 24-May-18 09:53:19

I guess a lot of new members are brought in by the links posted on MN daily emails to the more interesting GN threads. Particularly those on the relationships thread, which might be relevant to DILs.

It’s great to see new names with different points of view. And nobody should be put off by established posters having a go (not on this thread, obviously). Some of the old guard do think they own the board, sadly, and put newbies off. I think we’re all just too polite to them, which gives them the idea that their rudeness is acceptable.

But tell me more about how to get rid of those bloodstains in the cellar.... hmm

DanniRae Thu 24-May-18 09:40:16

I missed the 'blood stains in the cellar post' Rosina - what were people suggesting? (Just out of interest you understand!) Anyway I take your point BUT sometimes the replies are days apart. I guess that posters don't read all the replies before they answer?

lemongrove Thu 24-May-18 09:34:00

Farview hope things improve soon for you.No need to stay quiet, you were wondering why there were so many posters (new ones). I think many were lurking for a while and have now decided to join in, which is great.

Rosina Thu 24-May-18 09:11:57

Trouble is there DanniRae that by the time I have managed to type a response to what looks like the last comment, and clicked 'post', about twenty other people have obviously been furiously typing away at the same time with a good method to get rid of bloodstains in the cellar. Yes, I too find aggressive people a bit alarming - after some recent posts I almost wanted to drop out but then thought I should display some backbone and stand up for myself. Politely, of course!

DanniRae Thu 24-May-18 08:39:14

Welcome to all new Gransnetters.
Just like to say that the one thing that drives me mad on here - apart from aggressive people who never give up banging on about their favourite subject and I know that that's never going to change - is threads where a poster asks, for example, "How do I get a stain out of my new blouse?" and after someone has given a reasonable answer the same answer is repeated time and time again by lots of other Gransnetters. I always want to shout "OK we get it!"
OOPS sorry I seem to have gone into a rant!
Once again "Welcome - I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do" grin

Elegran Thu 24-May-18 08:36:22

Staying polite is the secret - and not allowing yourself to be needled into retaliating in kind when someone fails to remember that.

Anniebach Thu 24-May-18 08:32:53

New posters welcome .

Attack the post not the poster no longer applies which is a pity.

Billybob4491 Thu 24-May-18 08:26:31

Elegran, I am passionate about my beliefs, but being well mannered I am very mindful of other peoples feelings when replying to a post.

Elegran Thu 24-May-18 08:22:47

It depends on the subject. Some people are very passionate about their beliefs and tend to think the best defence is attack.

Billybob4491 Thu 24-May-18 08:18:32

Been on here a little while now, notice the same posters are willing to "have a go" at anyone who does not agree with them. Not very nice, but that's folk for you. If you want to express an opinion, duck and make sure your head is well below the parapet!

Elegran Thu 24-May-18 08:15:03

There does seem to be a certain theme among the spoofers at the moment.

gillybob Thu 24-May-18 08:12:45

Hello and welcome to Gransnet Mamissimo smile

It most definitely is a “less spikey place recently (well as long as you don’t criticise the royals that is) wink

Mamissimo Thu 24-May-18 08:03:52

I’ve been pressing my nose up against the glass for a while to see what goes on here and it seems a less spikey place recently so I’ve dipped my toe in and no ones bitten my head off yet. Some nights I thought that there would be loads of us lurking in the shadows.....and here we are! Hello!

Rosina Thu 24-May-18 07:58:17

What on earth do you have to do NanKate to get 'busted' from Gransnet?? It did cross my mind, having mentioned Mumsnet, that perhaps some new members might be potential rather than actual 'Grans'.

NanKate Thu 24-May-18 07:37:00

I do miss some of the old members such as Ana Anya and Jinglebells who ruffled lots of feathers but made me laugh. HQ got rid of her sadly, a very poor move I feel.

sodapop Thu 24-May-18 07:36:52

I agree Bestwishes there have been some name changes I think for reasons of privacy.
Welcome to any new posters though, hope you find some support on here and enjoyment of course.

BlueBelle Thu 24-May-18 07:25:22

Again, I agree Bestwishes I think there are a few spoof threads on at the moment and I did wonder if some of the ‘new’ posters were just new names

Besstwishes Thu 24-May-18 06:56:31

farview I’m thinking that a lot of the new posters have changed their names and I’d go one further in that a fair few of them are totally made up scenarios.

It’s a shame, maybe now that the site is connected to other social media sites some people get a kick out of seeing their untrue posts make it onto FB.

Gerispringer Thu 24-May-18 06:32:15

Could be people changing their usernames ......

farview Thu 24-May-18 06:30:11

Well, think I will just stick with the Games for the time being..am under enormous stress, had a mega blip last night, too much wine, feel silly now, until am able to cope again shall stay quiet....

Jalima1108 Wed 23-May-18 23:00:41

Oh good!!

We did lose some posters so it's nice that we have new ones joining with their varied views.

Welcome one and all smile

gillybob Wed 23-May-18 22:36:55

Yes a lot of new members lately . I think GN has improved for the better. Welcome to all new members. ?

M0nica Wed 23-May-18 22:32:10

Well, we just lost a tranche of regular posters, not sure why, so it is nice to welcome so many new names on the posts.

Rosina Wed 23-May-18 22:26:29

I started a post some months back because I had had a sneaky look at 'Mumsnet'...well, I guess it wasn't really sneaky as, by default, I am a 'Mum' too! - and I commented that while Gransnet was showing perhaps 50 or so replies to a discussion, Mumsnet was usually around 550, and why did people think this was? I do agree that in the past few weeks or so Gransnet seems to have more answers on the different threads - and that's great! How nice to have new members and new opinions.

lemongrove Wed 23-May-18 22:11:47

I think it’s brilliant!
GN was becoming a bit stagnant and all the many new posters have perked it up.smile
A very warm welcome to all new posters, new voices make a site interesting.
