DMIL passed the test when she was admitted to hospital after a fall. Which was a wee bit surprising, as she announced that the handsome young doctor was her grandson, dressed up and playing a trick on her. Now DS is of course young and handsome, but the only medical training he ever had was for his first aid badge in the Cubs.

grannyactivist - have no worries, it was once explained to me that as we get older we have more wisdom to remember so some things get pushed out to make room. I think it was Einstein who was said not to know his times table as he didn't see the point of having to remember something he could look up!

With regard to getting bloodstains out of the cellar floor - has anyone come up with a foolproof way - asking for a friend!

grannyactivist I spent several minutes recently trying to recall my own date of birth! Day & month, no problem. But the year? I couldn't for the life of me remember how old I actually was! Have you ever been admitted to hospital, and had to do the ‘dementia test?’ Dils grandmother was admitted into hospital several months ago and it was one of the first things they did. I sometimes genuinely fear that I would fail!

Not only on Gransnet either I'm afraid. I'm having real trouble recalling names of people in real life, including some who mean the world to me. There are some GN names that I remember, but as so many names are new and others have name-changed I've completely lost track.

Yes NanKate I often have to scroll back to find the name of the person I'm replying to (although not this time!)

It would help if everybody was called Whatsername, Ummm, Errr, Thingy, Wotsit etc.

Have any of you gone to reply to another GN member and as you come to write their name you have forgotten it and you have to scroll back to find it?

Also some of the names are not easy to remember especially if they are a combination of names with numbers in them which I should think relate to their year of birth or the number of children they have.

This is just a comment not a criticism of your choice of user name.

I'm on a family Whatsapp site and by the time I've posted a text my adult children have already posted several - they all have Olympic fingers and thumbs! It happens on here sometimes that by the time I've responded to a previous post there are several others in between. I do however try to read all the posts in a thread before I put fingers to keys.

Can't answer your questions - I don't have a cellar, bloody or otherwise and my choice of burial place if I had dispatched anyone in my imaginary cellar would never, ever be under my patio - I couldn't bear to spoil it!

Personally I swear by salt allsortsofbags . It works a treat as long as the stain is still wet and sticky.

Once you have let it dry it will become a lot more difficult to remove.

Just use the famous GN "leg-o-lamb" method, there's far less mess.

I've only been on GN for a few months and reading some comments I will have of unintentionally upset some folks.

1) because it's taken me so long to type and by the time I'm ready to post lots of others have made the same/similar point

2) I haven't fully read all the posts before I posted, I'm working on changing that :-)

3) I agree with/support what other people have said (is that so bad ?)

However, I am very interested in tips for getting the blood stains out of the cellar.

Oh and any tips for repairing the patio - you know for after that deed.

Rosina you ask what you have to do to get busted. Well Jinglebells often said some comments that were the complete opposite to others’ comments. Can’t remember any in particular but she did make me laugh regularly. I think she was given warnings by HQ and then one day she was gone. I don’t know what happened but IMO GN has been a poorer place without her.

We had a long thread asking for her return but Zilch. She must have broken one of the GN golden rules.

Love her or hate her she was a character and sadly missed by some of us.

Sorry to be vague but this is all I remember.

I can assure you I am genuine,fairly new,have a fair amount to say,but hopefully respectful of others and eager to "join in and fit"....... with all those that have gone before me.

Having been on other forums which I believe I have "outgrown" and am now more than happy with my "new home" amongst people more of my own age.

I still consider myself relatively new and dipped my toe in a few times with some friendly and interesting response. I did however receive a slight rebuke about my name being similar to someone else, and as she had been in the site longer........well! Kind of knocked me down for a while, but then I thought how stupid. Let's get on with life and enjoy, such a trivial matter to get upset about. I shall gain strength from such intelligent, strong people on here who can offer such words of wisdom, hope and love to those who need it with so much understanding and care. Thank you GN.

You're not wrong, Day6. As I said, posters are coming over from MN, lured in by the links on their own daily emails - a MIL/DIL thread naturally attracts attention. Some genuinely want to add to the conversations going on here, and that's great. It's good to get their side of the story. Most don't stay for long.

But I have also seen the odd post on MN delighting in how the oldies react to being wound up, and some congratulating other MNers on stirring the pot over here. It takes all sorts!

I may be imagining it (I probably am) but I am finding it strange that new names are posting long and detailed OPs, which sound angry and use language and terms more often found on Mumsnet.

Some posts seemed like complete wind-ups - to get the "old dears" frothing at the mouth.

I accept my view might not be shared and like others, I welcome genuine new posters.

As others have said, I suspect some may be old posters who are back with new names.

What on earth do you have to do NanKate to get 'busted' from Gransnet??

I'm enjoying reading from new members or new posters but I too think we are having a spate of spoofs but they seem easily spotted so easy to ignore. They do seem to have a theme and are made purely to annoy or anger people. I'm waiting for the school uniform ones to start , it's a tad early yet!
Welcome to All . I'm still a bit of a new girl but am starting to join in a little more but tend to ride over any nastiness.
Just remember that what you type can be read differently to how you meant it and what you read can be typed in a different way to how some people including you, might read it . In other words if something annoys you try not to type immediately with anger , go away and think about it.
As for threads with many posts with the same instructions of how to get rid of blood from the cellar , to me that just means it must work so I'd be encouraged to try that way , they don't annoy me it just means some people have not read the whole post and are trying to help the OP.
