I have just sat down with a glass of wine, I will be in my bed before much more time has passed.
My H asked to be put to bed at 6:15, he may or may not rest for an hour when he will think it is morning, I have to hide his clothes or he will get dressed.
This evening he told me he didn't know who I was or my name. This, after almost 60 years of marriage.
It will not be possible to get hold of the SW tomorrow being a bank holiday but I need to get urgent respite as I know now I can't carry on.
My D who owns a preschool in a fairly disadvantaged town in the SE told me on Friday of a young single mum who wants help as she has 2 children with genetic brain disorders,
That is when you realise, however difficult your own problems, they are insignificant at the things others face.

Thank you, kitty, fennel and corner for your good wishes!
The final move is the end of June. Brand new house and very ...er...’compact’.
Wishing you well too, fennel.

Maw - our border collie (no longer with us sad) used to be able to sense a thunder storm coming about an hour before. She would head for the downstairs toilet and hide in there until it was all over. That was in France, where summer storms are common.
But what's happening here in the UK, where they're usually more rare?

Charleygirl, I know first hand how kind people can be, and as the saying goes "what goes around, comes around"

Charleygirl Sun 27-May-18 17:56:00

The physio was here when my doorbell rang. It was a neighbour wanting to cook me a chicken curry! Lovely idea but she thought that the physio could stay with me while she did that because I told her of my difficulty to get to my front door to open it!

Very kind but no brains. I actually have tonight's meal sorted but she would not understand that I could think ahead. I do enjoy her curries and the amount she cooks will do nicely for a couple of meals and she will be back later checking when I next want food cooked by her. People are so kind.

cornergran Sun 27-May-18 17:45:29

Love the sofas maw, ignore negative comments, if they look good and are also comfy then a result.

Little sunshine here today, huge black cloud hovering overhead at the moment, we’ve been lucky and avoided thunder so far.

Oh soop, our friend takes ‘not bothering the doctor’ to an art form. She’s had her symptoms for a number of years, it is believed they were the cause of her accident in 2016 that left her in hospital for many weeks. It flared again and fortunately in many ways her neighbour and a local friend were involved so have taken on the nagging mantle. We were clear yesterday about our view of her situation and also our practical limitations. She said the right things, time will tell I guess.

Hope the penultimate move goes well ffinochio, not sure I could cope with six months living from a suitcase. Not long now though before the final move.

I hope you make the apartment in Tenby panache, I can understand your desire to be there. Beautiful place. A couple of times I’ve arranged a short break in Tenby for us when life has been particularly difficult. A few days rest there and I can cope with anything. It’s a bit of a family joke - things can’t be that bad, Mum isn’t in Tenby. grin

I’ve done very little. Well, ventured out to spend some vouchers on plants, so I’d be very happy if tomorrow saw some warm sun and no rain, just while I sort some gardening.

Hope you are getting stronger charley and the mum to be allows you back in your bed kitty.

Take care everyone.

After a night from hell, one of the worst thunderstorms we have had for a bit, I have been anxiously watching the weather and the forecast.
Poor Hattie discovered she does not like thunder. Perhaps not quite as frantic as Gracie used to be, but bad enough for me to have to sit up with her in the sitting room (usually off limits at night) until after three.
TG I hadn’t had the 3 DGCs as well like last weekend as I turned the radio as up loud as I could in the kitchen . There were some good “golden oldies” but I would have preferred sleep!
I am sorry to hear “the sunshine state” is not living up to its name N&G but hope you are enjoying your holiday nonetheless.
Do keep us posted about the “happy event” kitty plus picture if possible?
I am gradually acclimatising to my new sofas but it has involved a change of colour scheme regarding throws and cushions, and as DD pointed out, why on earth did I go for a pale honey colour when I have a black dog? Duh!
What do you think?
They are very comfy which was the point of the exercise!

Fennel Sun 27-May-18 17:17:48

ffinochio - I haven't been following your progress on here (your return from France, same as us.) But 6 months! Nearly 4 for us, and hoping to have our own home during June. It will be our 5th move too.
Hope all goes according to plan for you.

soop Sun 27-May-18 16:33:47

We've enjoyed a sunny day. I've been sketching an owl and an eagle in flight. They are to become watercolour paintings for forthcoming birthday gifts.

Please take good care of yourselves. I shall now log off and wish you all a pleasant evening. Until tomorrow...smile moon

soop Sun 27-May-18 16:30:14

phoenix If MacSporran and I had a very healthy bank balance (which is unlikely) we would enjoy giving a good home to any creature that wandered our way. To have an animal sanctuary would be our idea of heaven on earth.

phoenix Sun 27-May-18 16:10:32

kitty stop it with your tempting! I have my hands full with Oliver Sprout, not to mention "Sponge Stealer" Minnie!

Next door have just rescued 2 cats called Geoff and Eric, they are trying to persuade me to take at least one of them on, as they already have 9 shock

phoenix Sun 27-May-18 16:05:58

soop never say never. There may well be a calling at your door, you don't always look for cats, sometimes they look for you. (As you know!)

soop Sun 27-May-18 15:57:00

kitty I would so love one of the expected kittens. Since Rory and Bracken died we have missed them dreadfully. Yet, we have decided that we cannot grow through the pain of their loss again. I'm certain that you will make sure that the kittens go to loving homes.

kittylester Sun 27-May-18 15:25:19

Great post panache! Thank you for that. My twin brothers were born in North Wales and I am secretly jealous! grin

Charley, hope you are feeling marginally better.

n&g, we have a muggy day in North Leicestershire - I really dislike them. I should be ironing but it's not really the weather for it.

*callgirl8, who cares where it was - you got there. Enjoy tonight too!!

soop, your home looks so lovely. ffin and I'm sure you will be thrilled to get into yours at long last.

Corner, I think it was time someone (you - as it happens grin) gave your friend a 'talking to'. You have your own life to get on with.

No kittens yet but the expectant mother is fast asleep on our bed. I have, therefore, not been able to make it and I hope she hasn't decided it's too comfortable there! shock Each of our other cats to reproduce had 4 kittens each and we have had requests for 2 of the kittens, we will keep one. That means there may be one left over - any takers? I could pop it in the post to you!!

soop Sun 27-May-18 13:11:02

Welcome home, corner. Your friend is a lucky lady. Has she been unwell for a long time and is now very much worse? Is she having treatment? All that you could do to help was visit and try to persuade her to do the sensible thing. She shouldn't ignore whatever is going on. The sooner she gets expert advice, the better.
I like to unpack as soon as I return from a few days away. You can now relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

N&G How come the sunshine state is anything but...we have wall to wall sunshine yet again. I would share with you if I could.
How lovely is the close bond between Cooper and Sam. I foresee a few tears when Cooper has to say farewell to his four legged friend.

callgirl1 I had to chuckle when I read your post. Never mind, as you say, you arrived at the right destination and that's what counts. Carry on enjoying the birthday treats.

Charleyg I understand that recovering from knee replacement surgery is more painful/debilitating than hip surgery. Bless Tara for her concern. flowers

Panache Your posts are written from the heart. A joy to read.

ffinnochio You've reached another milestone. The end is in sight. I'm sending you good vibes from Kintye. sunshine

soop Sun 27-May-18 12:42:57

It's yet another warm and sunny day in bonnie Kintyre. Have taken a photo of the garden. I managed to get MacSporran to cooperate. Ha!

There is an enormous amount of catching up to do. I've barely made any headway into the latest updates. Please will you all remain still for a while? I shall be back in the fullness of time. wink

ffinnochio Sun 27-May-18 10:18:26

I enjoyed your mini tour of Wales, Panache. I was talking with a friend the other day about our camping holidays on the Pembrokeshire coast. Good memories. Hope you find a buyer soon.

I’m packing up for yet another temporary move, before the 5th, and final one. 6 months of suitcase living has been ... insightful!

Thinking of all you kitcheners who have illnesses and family concerns flowers

tanith Sun 27-May-18 09:32:26

Love your posts about your beloved Wales Panache makes me reminisce about all the wonderful times I’ve shared with my family on it’s beautiful beaches and visiting it’s many Castles .

Panache Sun 27-May-18 09:09:19

Here I am again my new Kitchen friends, in a determined mood to lift high the banner of Wales..............rather than sink into misery thinking of Tuesday!!!

Music to my ears hearing your various comments about my homeland Wales.
Having been born and brought up in this tiny corner of the west, it always uplifts me on hearing others have visited ......whether to live or simply holiday.......and enjoyed it.

Like any place I guess it does have its “other side”......our roads and rail network are a disgrace.....and until fairly recently, whenever we needed most things, we had to travel further afield,a real pain in the neck.

Whilst although tourism has become almost the life blood of our county and we value our visitors year upon year, the roads on these Bank holidays, in particular, are indeed a nightmare!!
Shops overflowing too ..............so we locals have learnt the early bird catches the best trolley full....."where there`s a will there`s a way!!!"
We visit the stores...............rising with the proverbial lark!!!

Of course I was brought up in an era where there was much green space all around, room to breathe, crime rate low,and we could virtually take our pick of the glorious beaches...........all 60+ offering such peace and glorious panoramas.Every one quite different but each one stunning in their own individual way.

I lived my earlier years within the catchment of the beautiful St Davids Cathedral and the rugged western coastline, where I enjoyed life as a youngster.
Peace, clean air to breathe and beaches were uppermost.

Whilst both St Davids...... along with Tenby..... are now the noted Hot spots for property with prices rising ridiculously............and sadly far too many properties becoming second........and third......homes.
Thus presenting a real headache for our young folk trying to get on the property ladder.

In marriage we seem to have gone from one sea view to another, initially taking in St Brides Bay with all the bird sanctuaries of that coastline.................perfect peace prevailed back then.
The western coastline, even today, remains mainly un commercialised..........and has its own “following” offering a special rugged almost "untouched" atmosphere.

We then moved to Saundersfoot and stayed a wonderful 25 years, having found an idyllic cottage,..... which in time and with much hard work, we turned into our own little paradise.
We were simply a stones throw from a little beach that then in turn, joined the larger sandy main beach............and Village.......that most tourists know and enjoy.
To the other side of our lane we had the adjoining Pembrokeshire coastal path which has since been recognised all over the world, whilst to the left of us a delightful ancient bluebell wood.
It was a dog walking paradise for sure!!!
No dog lover would ever be lonely if walking their pooch in this part of the Village!!
Our dogs thoroughly loved "their patch".

We did our daily shopping, trip to the Surgery,H/D Bank or whatever by walking there via the beach...............surely very special?
As I write and read that back, I sincerely do wonder why,oh! why did we ever move?!

As the years went by, tourism well and truly took over more and more with the Hotels vastly increasing and many B & B`s and Guest houses sprouting up all around us.Caravan and camping sites "arriving" overnight out of almost every other garden!
Residents........ such as ourselves were leaving, and it changed.... but sadly, not for the better.
The peace that had been ours, began to be compromised and so we started getting itchy feet, resulting in us heading back to the western coast and a pastorial green setting of the countryside all around us............with the main town just miles away and a plethora of beaches again miles away ......but in the opposite direction.
Rather a case of best of both worlds I suppose.

We had so loved the South side of the County and our hearts remain there..........
Whilst in Saundersfoot our favourite places were Tenby,Caldey Island,Manorbier, and Colby Gardens.............whilst on Bank holidays, as the crowds drove in, we drove out................. and up to the comparative tranquillity........... found on the nearby Precelly mountains!!!
Just sheep for companionship!!
We learned to adapt and find the best of places to find that overwhelming tranquillity we so enjoyed.

When having my own fight with cancer I was on a special Bristol Cancer Diet and my DH bought watercress daily...........straight from Caldey Island........where else eh?..(as well as crates of organic veggies and fruit)

Tenby has a very special spot in our heart and it should have been our final home.We had opted for a Retirement apartment there overlooking the iconic North Bay,beach and picturesque harbour.
Sadly, just before Christmas our purchaser pulled out of the sale of this property................so we remain here for the time being.

Fingers well crossed may I say??!!

I find it very uplifting when I hear you folk talk about Wales and especially my home county, and indeed I would like nothing better than meeting with you....... if and when you next visit.

Thinking of all that found last night distressing with the awful weather conditions playing havoc with sleep, whilst my heart skips a beat on hearing of these little dear pets...........our soul mates.......that are such a source of comfort in times of stress especially.
Thinking especially of your Tara Charleygirl, they really do have this “sixth sense” and she is obviously very aware that her “mommy” is not her usual well self.
What a lovely blessing having such comforting and sensitive pets.

Having certainly written for Wales, I think it time I simply wished you all fellow kitcheners a very pleasant day, may those troubled find relief, and may there be blessings in abundance for you all.

Charleygirl Sun 27-May-18 06:54:13

Tara spent the entire night with me again last night and we only woke up once. She will not leave my side this morning, she really does know that something is wrong with mummy because she does not normally walk around the house using a Zimmer frame and acting as though she is 200 years old.

The sun has been shining most days but I am freezing cold here. If switching on the heating was not such a faff I have a feeling I would have been battling with 25C yesterday! I have a cosy blanket to wrap around me. I was not in this sorry state 5 years ago when I had my other knee replaced but the pain was similar and I am 5 years older. I will get better- that I do know. Thank God weatherwise it is not February or I have no idea what I would do re the cold.

I think the relationship between Sam and Cooper is delightful- could Cooper's parents care for a dog?

callgirl1 Sun 27-May-18 00:15:55

Well, it`s a good job I was getting a lift tonight, or I`d have been in the wrong place! Tonight`s meal was at the Wheatsheaf at Hubberts Bridge, the Spirit of Endeavour is tomorrow night for granddaughter`s birthday, so I`m off out again tomorrow, then I`ve a meal booked for next Saturday night for my birthday.
Kitty, can I come and play with the kittens please? Have you got any homes lined up for them?
Sorry it`s been so wet for you N&G, stay safe during the coming storm. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly it all dries up out there once the sun comes out. We had a car park opposite our balcony, the rain water was halfway up the trunks of the palm trees, half an hour after the rain stopped all was bone dry again!

cornergran Sat 26-May-18 22:46:32

Batten the hatches n&g, we cant have you blowing away. Oh, poor Cooper, and how kind to read to Sam. Those two sound to have become inseparable. I should be asleep, I’m so tired, but my eyes are stubbornly open. I’m about to speak severely to them and sleep - with luck. smile. hmm.

NanaandGrampy Sat 26-May-18 22:29:39

Hello all from a very damp and stormy sunshine state ( ha! They really need to rename it!) !!

We’ve been coming here for 20 years and have never had such poor weather whilst all you lucky lot are enjoying sunshine back home!

Grampy has popped out to stock up as a tropical storm warning has been announced so it sounds like it’s going to get a whole lot wilder !!

Sam is much better , for all who asked , but young Cooper is going to be sad when he goes home . They have become inseparable and Cooper has taken to climbing into Sammys travel cage to read him a book before bedtime!

I’m trying hard to keep up with you all, but miss my big laptop screen so hope you’ll understand if I just wish you all well and hope you’re all enjoying a little of that elusive sunshine x

Doodle Sat 26-May-18 19:37:58

I want to go to kitty's too said in a whiny voice that seems to work for children grin
panache so glad you found the kitchen before your op. You will get plenty of support and good wishes here. We will be thinking of you Tuesday.
Bags I get first dibs on Baggs' flapjacks when she pops in. They are the best.

cornergran Sat 26-May-18 19:21:13

Evening All. Back from a night in Wales after visiting our poorly friend. Superb B&B with a unique character. I was served the biggest breakfast I have ever seen, well, until I looked at Mr C’s. The owner had gone to so much trouble to source good quality gluten free food, her care was really appreciated.

Any case, a busy and good in parts couple of days. I feel a bit uncomfortable about our friend. She was very ill indeed two weeks ago and after turning down advice from three people to summon an ambulance she asked for a non-urgent GP appointment. Another week to go while she remains unwell. Afraid I was more than cross with her. She’s worrying so many people. I think she understood my crosness was based in care but I felt a bit ashamed afterwards.

Had a good day today, some at the coast and the rest at an Outlet village where Mr C described his relief at me finally finding what he viewed as a suitable birthday present, only three-ish weeks late. Apparently he’s been getting nagged by the family, poor man, its not his fault he has an uncooperative wife. I truly wasn’t fussed about a gift, so many people have been so kind it’s been more than enough.

So back, unpacked, well sort of, and feet up. With unusual forethought I made sure there was a dry white chilling for later along with some healthy snacks. I truly do not want proper food. Sorry charley, I know I’m ungrateful. Normal food now until Wednesday, two final celebratory days next week, there’s never been a birthday like this one. I must learn from callgirl and not grumble.

I’m envious of a hot day soop, rained on us this morning and our home felt cold to come back to.

Pleased to hear you so positive panache, I’m sure it helps recovery.

Kittens kitty? Sounds exciting. Mr C is allergic to cats so we’ve never had the pleasure of being owned by a cat. Hope Mum and babies do well.

Good for Tara charley, she’s a star and cares for you as you care for her. Hope you’re feeling stronger.

Best finish putting the ‘stuff’ away, usually the last few things get overlooked grin. I’m experimenting today, the plan is to put it all away and see how tomorrow feels when I’m not faced with the task smile

Take care everyone.
