I totally agree. I can't really offer advice because I have given up trying to keep up with it all ( and I am only 67). I do not take chances- never ever answer or give info or open anything dodgy. Only occasionally check my bank account now ( it's usually fine. have never found a wrong payment ) Apart from that I mostly just keep my fingers crossed that it will all be ok.

I can understand on line security measures but I too have been 'swindled' out of £160 by a firm I deal with, online. In the small print T&Cs I noticed (after the event) they were at liberty to pay this charge, taking money from my account. Unfortunately they didn't send me any noticeable, flagged up, strongly titled emails warning me a charge would be made. All the regular online correspondence from this firm tends to be of the "special rates, save with us" or "get this special offer now" type of nuisance promotion, so after a while I don't open it.

And as for password changes, I write mine down in a book now (in my own code, for security) but I have lost so many bits and pieces over the years because of computer crashes.

My biggest bugbear is 'admin charges' - even when you are a customer, buying things online!!! They have to deal with you so you can purchase from them and make them a profit, and that's what these people are employed to do. Sales. It seems we pay the wages of admin clerks who sit at computers.
