Barmy systems

What I think is "barmy" is spending billions of pounds on space exploration. Our beautiful "blue planet" is slowly being destroyed because so much time, energy and money is spent on doing things that are, at best, unnecessary and, at worst, very damaging and dangerous.

It’s got me seriously worried cherrytree . Many mothers go into hospital anticipating a “straight forward birth” and then things sometimes change and there are complications. The hospital say not to worry we will move you to a larger unit. But the nearest one is 10 miles away through a very busy city centre (assuming they have room) and the next one even further, which could easily take more than an hour at busy times. My point is that you either have a fully equipped maternity unit or you don’t .

A road nearby is double-yellow-lined all the way along, except for one little patch near a clutch of business units, enough for 6 cars to park. Which they do, every day. It's the only road in and out of a large residential area, and a bus route to boot. The road is not wide enough for two cars to pass these parked cars, never mind a bus and a car.
And this is where it gets barmy: the road has wide grass verges each side - you would think, wouldn't you, that it would be obvious to anyone with a handful of brain cells to do away with that section of verge in order to create a lay-by for the parking? But no. Instead there are continual and totally unnecessary traffic hold-ups along this section

Many things are so barmy I sometimes feel like a stranger in this world.

Bussing students past schools? Daft.

Maternity Unit that can only take straight forward births ? M0nica - good point.

More packaging ? Thanks. That's just what we need. Maple :-) Nothing wrong with a good hand wash.

As my Gran used to say 'it beggars belief".

True Maple - also, I always wash my hands after I've handled meat packaging anyway! Especially chicken...

It's bonkers.

Our County Council put lovely new bus stops complete with raised kerbs all over our estate. The bus company promptly stopped running the route....barmy!

A few years ago (not more than 4)
Education authority spent 6 million on our local college.
It is now up for sale.
Present students are being bused to a number of different college in other areas.

Dont these people realise they can wash their hands thoroughly after handling meat? ?
An additional worry is that with worldwide concern over the use of plastic and unnecessary packaging, here we have a product processed to the nth degree and wrapped up in plastic!

Here's another one. Well maybe not a system, but, well, b-a-r-m-y!

Sainsbury’s has announced it is launching ‘no touch’ chicken products in May, so squeamish millennials who hate handling raw meat can avoid the process entirely. The plastic pouches will be available on three chicken products and will enable customers to tip pre-cut marinated chicken pieces straight into a saucepan, without getting their hands dirty. The move comes after research by Brand Potential found two thirds of people are “very concerned about hygiene and contamination” when it comes to handling raw meat, particularly chicken. Almost a third of respondents have an aversion to touching raw chicken and over 40% would actively choose to buy products in packaging where they don’t have to touch the meat.

There is a "sports college" in our town. It's quite a poor school and the sports facilities are really no better than most other schools.

How barmy is it that schools become designated as specialist colleges? Local comprehensive became a "language college" - it offered GCSE German but not A-level! Language college my foot!

The maternity unit barmyness hit a nerve.
They built a brand new unit in the grounds of our local hospital which was open for about 20 yrs then when I was expecting DD they closed it and moved all services to the hospital 40 mins drive away.

Exactly M0nica and very worrying too.

Barmier still to think that they know in advance which births will be straight forward and which not.

I think you might be right Auntieflo we are so used to all the barmy stuff that we just take it as being normal.

On school placements, how barmy is it to bus children to a school from miles away (passing several other schools on the way) and the children near the school have to catch buses to take them to schools miles away because the children being bused in take all the places???? I don't blame you.

How barmy is it that we hold local elections in our town? What a waste of time, money and trees, when only one party ever get in... the "also rans" should just save their breath and paper.

How barmy is it that the maternity unit at our local hospital has just reopened after being closed for several months but can now only take "straight forward births". You are either a maternity unit or you are not.
