Haha Nanna58, my 60th is June and they've all frightened me witless! But I'm determined to age disgracefully so maybe I won't care if I start growing lumps & getting fungal nails ?.

Well ladies! I turn 60 next month so I suppose I should thank you that I will be ‘forewarned and forearmed’ but oh dear......

I recently cleared two years of toe nail fungus that had resisted every kind of treatment with coconut oil applied morning and evening. The fungus went in a month and now my big toenails are lovely and pink!

Well, I am now an expert at growing little lumps. I’ve had two removed from my back passage, one removed from inside my nose and this week 3 removed from my tongue. It seems I’m very good at growing lumps thankfully all benign so far. I’ve also got liver spots on my neck and face. And arthritis all over the place. I just wear bright colours to try to distract the eye! Lol

Like many I have extra weight around my middle - I refer to it as growing my own snack tray!

I used the teatree oil gel which cost about £4 and lasts forever. I just smear a dollop on the nail and wait for it to dry. Morning and night. It still takes a while but it works!

re wart removal - I had one on my face ( Dr. said it was harmless) and the pharmacist suggested covering it with a tiny piece of sticky tape, changing regularly. The wart eventually came off.
My friend had one, tried the same method, and it worked.
There must be various types of wart.
As for toenail fungus, in France it's called a champignon, ie I have a mushroom on my toe .

Poppyred and Lemongrove said it all. Mostly good stuff comes to the over 60s. Glad to have the periods and menopause out of the way. BUT the expanding waistline is annoying, especially as I had a 25 inch waist for years before I had a son. Mine and a close friend's bugbear are the stiff badger hairs that appear overnight on our chins! Positive stuff: the mortgage is paid off and we don't struggle to make ends meet and can spend several months a year abroad traveling.

Jalima my DH is the love of my life and we have grown up together so I do care for him very much and I am very blessed to have him. I have just been to visit him in hospital as he was taken in again in the night, poor man. I am praying that they get on and do the next op sooner rather than later but we shall see. He is in the best place atm.

As for the oils you do have to be careful as they are very potent but nothing that a sensible person couldn't get their head round. Always remember that there are oils and then there are oils! Just make sure that they are 100% pure and always use a carrier oil. If you feel them tingling just dilute a little more with another drop or so of the carrier oil especially when you have not used them before. I must confess that there are some, a very few, which I use neat but I am used to them, know what I am doing and am very careful.

Another with seborrheic warts ... followed by a fast growing lump on my forehead .... had them checked out asap by skin specialist ... and paid to have them all removed. Lump was precancerous so good thing ... felt better without the warts, too ....

Normally it is not recommended to put tea tree oil directly on the skin, but the way that Synonymous sounds fine.

Travelsafar I have used tea tree oil on DH after 3 years of pharmaceuticals which did nothing. I started him off with a foot bath to ensure that the nail bed was moist as oil spreads over water really well . (Think of tanker disasters at sea!) I made him put his toe in the upright position so that I could put one drop direct on to the nail bed. You may need more than one drop especially to start with but take your time and do it with the next drop once the first has soaked in. Continue doing this am & pm and be aware that it will look much worse before it looks better. I have been doing this for DH for a very long time (more than 2 years so far!) but it is working and the nail at the base now looks very healthy. I have spent a lot of time giving him footbaths and then removing all the dead gunk - I know TMI ! As I tell DH he has a very special person to do this for him!

NB Keep oils well away from eyes! This is very important! If you forget and rub your eye (or any other sensitive area of your body) DO NOT attempt to wash it away because water carries it along and makes it far worse. DO USE milk or yoghurt which both contain fat and wipe away with tissue when it is sorted.

aitch I am on felodipine for resistant high blood pressure and I have no sickness with that and it has been very effective for me. Worth asking your gp about anyway but always remembering that we are all different and the gp is supposed to be the go to expert and will be able to diagnose what the problem is. We are indeed "fearfully and wonderfully made"!

I had my vit d levels checked and the levels were termed ok by nhs guidelines and not at their prescribing level but was classed as woefully inadequate by others. I decided to buy my own supplies and have been taking a very large dose for the past three years and this has made a big difference to the way I feel. It is very helpful for blood pressure and other heart related things. Do your own research as you will find it interesting.

Know what you mean regarding temperature control, I spend a lot of time layering up and peeling off. For my hands I use little hand heat pads, the gel ones which don't last very long. That does mean they are cheaper which also means you can have more of them , I have a dozen or so. You recharge them by sitting them in a pan of hot water so I let the used ones pile up and then do a few at a time. I have a couple of the long lasting ones but they seem wasteful as they last for longer than I need and are not rechargeable so I don't really use those. I am so looking forward to some sun and warmth!

where do all these nail fungal infections come from when we get older??? I have a 'funny' toenail so i am going to invest in teatree oil and see if it works do you just massage into the nail??

Synonymous, the only thing I have been offered is Nifedipene which makes me very sick. I'll try vit d3 though, any port in a storm! Avoiding stress is not so easy, I can make sure that I always wear gloves but when I wrap up warm I become so hot and bothered I have to peel things off! Not useful, it's a nasty condition which doesn't seem to get much attention, but I will go back to G.P. and ask about any treatment available for poor circulation.

DH has that too but fortunately not to the degree that you have aitch, he just has to keep an even temperature and is taking Vitamin d3. If he gets cold it can take ages for his hands to come back to life and is very painful as it returns to normal. On the other hand I rarely get episodes myself nowadays thank goodness. Warmth is my protection and I also take vit d3 and avoid stress at all costs.
We are all so different so what do you do for it currently and what are your triggers? To affect your legs possibly indicates very poor circulation so are you on meds for that?

C'mon you ladies with the hairy chins ( me too!) get yourselves an epilator. So much easier than carving around with a mirror, torch & tweezers! A quick whizz around once a week & job done ?

I have Reynauds syndrome and this has led to badly discoloured toes, ankles and shins. My feet are full of purple broken veins and my shins are brown (not a nice tanned brown) Summer is coming! Any suggestions much appreciated, seems like we all have brown sunspots and thin hair, wrinkly arms and descending boobs.

Synonymous Thank you so much for taking the trouble of posting this. I will print it off and see if it helps. Without wishing to take over the thread, or come across as self-pitying, I don't need this at the moment. I have had years of hiding away with one thing or another, the most recent being total hair loss, now this. I have had very little help from the medical profession, the last comment from a (female) GP re my hair loss was 'get a wig'. This is a different GP who made the comment re the rash. Don't get me wrong, the NHS has been fantastic with us during very serious times - DH's cancer etc. I can't fault them but I think some things they see as trivial, which they probably are in the scheme of things but still make life difficult. Thank you again. I really appreciate it

P.S. Katy when using oils on your skin keep that part out of direct sunlight. I know it is a tad hopeful to mention the 's' word but you don't want to burn!
