I recently sent a very pretty diver and gold lariat-style necklace to a friend for a big birthday.
I was very tempted to keep it for myself but resisted and really hoped she would like it.
I got a polite but clearly unenthusiastic message of thanks, saying they had been trying to work out how it “goes” or adjusts.
Oh dear. Maybe I should have kept it and sent a Gift Voucher instead. I suspect it will find its way to her local charity shop and somebody will get a bargain.

Things that (sometimes unreasonably) get on your nerves...hopefully lighthearted
Good Morning Monday 10th August 2026
Aah! I could definitely stamp and shout at the moment!
Unbearable grief compounded by our adult children’s reactions

and I also don't see the gifts to my DIL - excepting once I saw a necklace I had given her, being worn by her mother just a week later. The mother clocked that I had recognised the necklace, and promptly guiltily clutched at it
. Since then, DIL gets mostly gift vouchers.
