Katek, fortnite has taken over in our grandchildren’s life, hard to get a look in.
I do use YouTube if I want to
know how to mend something, WhatsApp for communication with friends and family if we’re not getting together and my record player for music.

Mmost of ne are quite young still so Ive been tols anout the Night Garden too and Peppa pig and also the song from the gilm Froxen which was a must a couple of years ago. At the moment my 7 yr old gs is telling me about the football results (previously it was makes of cars) neither of which Im very interested in.

My grandson did something on my phone so that Siri now calls me your ladyship.

I use YouTube to watch Dave Allen shows.

Grandson also wants me to watch videos on YouTube of people watching videos on YouTube.

Fortnite.....a survival game on their iPads. I’m still baffled.

DGS1 loves WWE & knows all the main wrestlers & different contests, all goes over my head. I can however talk football with him for hours. He's 8, never heard him mention Minecraft. I use Messenger to "talk" to DD all the time, more convenient than telephone calls. Don't use WhatsApp or YouTube.

I'm sure as DGSs (DGS2 is only 10 months old) get older they will introduce me to lots of new things

GD set up WhatsApp on my phone, when she was eleven, so that she could send me pictures of her drawings and nice pussy cats she met on her walk home from school

When I find a new name (or an acronym) online in an article which implies that everyone knows, I ask my 20something daughter 'Should I recognise ....'. My 2yr granddaughter is no help at all, unless it's a Peppa Pig character, and I know all of them.

Things I have learned from You tube include how to change a duvet cover with almost no hassle, and how to microwave a swede.... lol!

Honestly, she comes out of school, can't remember anything she's done all day, but can name every single on of these blinking dolls, their sisters, their pets, what "club" they're in, etc.

This is all down to you-flipping-tube!

I love WhatsAp...brilliant for sending photographs and free as well. YouTube...if I need to know how to do anything I look on there. Slime is my next look up...looks wonderful stuff. Have to say how to empty the toilet cassette on my narrow boat was an eye opener. Would not have known where to start without it. Now before I go an look up Minecraft I need to know if it is addictive? I play a couple of games on Facebook....relaxing

Sue01 you had me in fits with the Viking weekend confusions? it’s exactly the sort of thing I would have done too! A Viking history weekend sounds loverly? the heavy metal gig not so much ??‍♀️???
My DGS (7) showed me a couple of years ago how to play Minecraft, although I am still rubbish!
I used to love playing The SIMS on DD2’s console when she still lived at home but had to stop as I found I spent one weekend in my dressing gown hunched over the console ?
I am fine with WhatsApp and messenger and use these daily to chat with the 3 DC who all live in different towns to me. I have a twitter account and Instagram but don’t use these very often as life’s too short? I do know about various YouTube stars via DGS 1 he shows me two he likes called Pat and Jen who play Minecraft and others? I am ok on music but I can’t stand most urban music such as rap so I lean towards the Ed Sheran type of music! The 3 DGD are not in to YouTube so it’s all been Disney films when I see them and much less technology which is lovely.

DanTdm is a Tuber Bore ....his voice drones on and on like my old Geography teacher who put many people to sleep in our school! But Goldengirl ....WhatsApp is the best ever messaging service AND you can send voice messages. Just hold down the mic icon and talk...when you finished talking just take finger of mic and touch ‘send’. My family loves it And you can have family conversation. Brilliant. On the subject of grandkids teaching us stuff....my daughter was asking me if I wanted to accompany her and kids to see a film and I said I’d love to go to the ‘pictures’ with them..... I don’t think they’ve stopped laughing yet! My 10 year old said “were you born in the last century nanny’? ....well “yes’’ actually!

Right now I could do with a grandchild to explain the intricacies of Facebook to me. I am usually able to find my way around computers and the internet but Facebook, instagram (or is it instegram?) etc. defeat me.

Oh and help with my apple I-phone, for even with the user's manual to hand there are things there that defeat me too.

And a nice adult GS with the strength to lug two old batteries out of our boat, fetch new ones and lug them down into the engine-room. I can't do it, and DH mustn't on account of his broken, but mercifully, now mending collar bone.

My young granddaughter does the self service for me at the supermarket. I keep getting nasty messages about the 'bagging area' when I try to do it.

She is also a bit of an entrepreneur, making slime and selling it! I watched something about slime on BBC news yesterday and still don't understand why it is so popular.

What a great thread. My dgs is only 11 months so I look forward to learning new things from him sometime

ps I know all about DanTDM on you tube. My DH calls him 'that blue haired shouty man' and turns of his hearing aids.

I was recently shown how to 'Dab' (pointing both arms out diagonally upwards to one side) by my DGS then immediately told off by my DGD because it's 'not cool' anymore....... I never even had the chance to find out in what situation I may have Dabbed - maybe at the next U3A meeting to show that I didn't have arthritis?

I'm now learning a dance called the 'floss' which is like drying your 'nether regions' with a towel after a bath

My GC are still a little young to teach me anything, although they are just getting into Minecraft. I am, however, a very regular YouTube user. It’s amazing. If I want to know how to do anything I look on YouTube. I ‘subscribe’ to several channels as some really interesting people and subjects on there. I also enjoy Ted Talks. Come to think of it, I rarely watch TV!
My daughter put a photo on Facebook at Xmas of me on my phone putting in things to record on our TV on my VirginTV app.

The difference between a Viking Weekend, and a Viking Weekender !

I entered a competition, hoping to win tickets to a two day learned symposium on Norse history.

What I won was tickets to something the Grandchildren explained was a form of Heavy Metal music... worse than Death Metal... called Viking Metal.

The reasons they gave me for not going included, no loos, no waiter service for my gin and tonics, the hideous way I dance and my wardrobe not measuring up to the Death Goth dress code.

I now know the names of all the Night Garden characters thanks to 15 month old DGD. The books are pored over regularly! DGSs insist on showing me their ‘great goals’ on FIFA (grandma you must see this! Really it’s a game !)
Do enjoy going to cinema with both DGSs - I like sci-fi type films so I am cool because of that (and none of the adults like them apart from me)
I hadn’t heard of Dan TDM either Juggernaut- shall drop that into next conversation with them and prepare for them to be impressed ?

Oh yes, slime!! Can't understand the craze. My kitchen was full of slime makers at Christmas!
