This has nothing whatsoever to do with "Sexual harassment, bullying, less money then a male." and everything to do with restricting diversity. A male voice choir is one of a whole variety of different musical ensembles. Should string quartets have to change to accommodate trombonists, bagpipers and virtuosos on the comb-and-paper ?

Does this mean that some of the gay choirs will have to change their ethos to include heterosexuals? Honestly it's getting beyond a joke!

btw I know the Everyman well from my time there in the late 60’s.

When my husband had to give up driving I used to take him to his Male Voice Choir rehearsals. As a chorister myself, and having quite a deep voice, I happily sat at the back, joining in with the tenors. I loved doing it, and they didn’t mind at all, but making them take women in as members would have changed the whole tenor (sorry!) of the choir. There is room for choirs of every description in our musical heritage, and long may it continue!

It is silly because the title of the choir refers not to males but to male voices.

Because they believe in what they are doing.
My d is a diversity and inclusion manager for a well known rail service. She deals with woman in work places and you would be shocked at what she deals with.
Sexual harassment, bullying, less money then a male.
I brought my d up to be a strong independent woman and

It’s very sad. Sometimes you just wonder about the level of intelligence in certain people, it’s obvious that there are/can be exceptions in equal opportunities legislation. Female teachers can be employed to teach girls PE etc so I don’t understand why it was thought necessary to do this with the choir. PC gone mad in my opinion.

This woman power thing is getting out of control. I fully support women having equality but fail to understand what they believe they are achieving doing a Full Monty on TV, and now planning to run a Marathon in their underwear. Pictures of scantily clad women are demeaning and turns their efforts into something sexualised so why do they do it?

Surely this would require the male choir to change their repertoire to accommodate female voices.

Before we know it some female will be demanding the lead in Othello!

I read this with sadness. The sound a good male voice choir makes is entirely unique and the repertoire is specific to that sound. No-one complains about the military wives.

On any questions this week Lionel Shriver referred to something being only one step up from being a white, heterosexual male, meaning that they are the lowest in any pecking order. She may well be right. So many grant applications in the public sector make it quite clear that such men haven't a hope so may as well not apply.

I have just read the actual report. They are staying a male voice choir just changing the name to 'The Derbyshire Community Male Voice Choir' to cut their ties to the police force which has a gender equality policy.

If the Derbyshire Police Authority is so concerned the obvious answer is to organise both a female choir and also a mixed choir in addition to this long standing male voice one ...PC Plod has gone PC mad!

It would change the whole sound of the choir...a wonderful sound. This is ridiculous....

No common sense, as someone else has posted. I’m afraid I may be getting old and grumpy but I don’t see much common sense anywhere these days. (Better now that’s off my chest?).

When were they told to do this, April 1st ?.
Seriously, it’s a nonsense. Some jobsworth with nothing better to do!

I doubt any women complained, my guess it was some manager sitting at their computer decided the fact it was a male choir could offend someone. I don't see how this ruling advances the cause of equal treatment.
