Soop's friendly kitchen

soop I know how tempting it is to get carried away working in the garden, lots achieved but the odd mishap overdoing it has left me with minor injuries. Slow down a bit and take care of yourself.

Baggs Ouch! I seem to be a ‘sirry irriot’ too especially when retrieving something from a hot oven so for that reason, I keep a bottle of lavender oil in the kitchen and gently rub it neat into any burns. It stops that nippy pain immediately and also prevents scarring.

Looking forward to a beautiful scenic drive in the sunshine as I head up to Perthshire this afternoon. Still a few chores to do, pack car and Poppy Cat? then we are off to meet up with DH who went on ahead yesterday so I better get off my IPad and shake a leg.

Soop! Please have that leg looked at. I remember what happened last time and you don’t want to go through that again. You will obviously be sensible but if there is any chance of infection just get along to have it checked out.

Hello the kitchen. Another warm day in prospect today. We were out all afternoon yesterday and didn’t get back until early evening. And no, kitty there wasn’t any ice cream at the hospital. In fact, we had only just sat down before DH was off for his treatment so he didn’t even have time for a drink of water. I had pulled down the blinds in our conservatory before we left and when we got back and looked at the thermostat I keep in there it said - 107 degrees!! Phew! We only managed to keep the doors open for a couple of hours before our neighbour lit some sort of bonfire and we had to close them again. We are off for a walk after I have had my hair cut today, so lots of fresh air is the order of the day. I will look in later.

Off to lunch with the parents of my son’s generation at school today, which should provide a challenge - I always have had a problem putting names to faces!

Somebody’s got a little behind with their gardening it seems!

Soop, what are you like? Please resist going into the garden unless it` to relax in the sun, and get thee to the surgery in the morning..

Soop, I`ve enjoyed the poetry, but am still of the opinion that poetry should actually rhyme, otherwise they`re mini essays!
JaneD3, I`m pleased that your mum`s funeral went off alright, I worried about David`s, but it was OK, there were even a few laughs.

Well, I have had a blistering good afternoon working mini miracles in the wet garden. The gunnera seed heads were sawn off later last year, but a few had rotted. They are enormous and heavy with it. All the natural areas can now breathe and the wild flowers will burst into bloom. I've just one bank to work on this weekend. It's where the bluebells bloom. I shall photo them when they put in an appearance.

I would enjoy reading all your latest news but I need a shower and hair wash. After tomorrow's care home visit, if you will permit me, I shall sit down and catch up.

The trip went well, the weather was glorious. I was tempted to dip a toe in the sea but the tide was on its way out so it was a bit or a walk and my scooter is not fit for sand !!

We found the tiddling nets and a café that serves excellent bacon sandwiches so all bases are covered.

Sounds like you enjoyed your babysitting duties Maw. I miss that we have no real tinies now .

Spent the afternoon (a) trying to find the way to Wythenshawe Hospital until I remembered I have satnav on the phone.
(b) trying to find my way to outpatients - no help from phone. My dentist referred me to see what they could do about the infected roots on crowned front teeth. Seems they may need to come out.
soop - PLEASE listen to what all of us are saying. Precautionary visit to the nurse is called for. Seriously!

Can’t turn my back for 5minutes without somebody who shall remain nameless but Baggs and Soop know who I mean, doing themselves a mischief.

I am back from 24 hours in London on granny duty.
Bedtime went remarkably well, in fact I was expecting a struggle (which failed to happen ) as Flynn is quite Mummy/Daddy fixated at the moment, partly his age, but also because DD has been away and also working18 hour days so much that he might be feeling a bit like the parcel in a game of “pass the”.
What is sweet is that when he wants something he says “Hello ... ....” like “Hello beebies”for a bit of CBeebies on granny’s iPad and when he has had enough he says “Bye, bye... ....”, like “Bye, bye teatime” when he has had enough to eat.
Last night, he didn’t cry when I finally got him into bed after bath, cuddles, milk and four stories, but for about 10 minutes I could hear this little voice piping up “Hello Mummy, hello mama, Hello Daddy, Hello dada”
However he slept through until nearly 7 and was very excited to find Mummy and Daddy on the pullout sofa bed in his room (granny got their room)
Took him to a wonderful wildfowl reserve/park at Walthamstow Wetlands and saw all sorts of quack quacks (no I didn’t know their names either)
It was baking in Lobdon???,
As was my drive home up the M11/25/1 and now Hattie and I are chillin’ with all the doors and windows open!

soop! How many times do we have to tell you? You are incorrigible! ? Please take care and go see that nurse.

It's a real scorcher here today, far too hot for me. I've just been up the road for some salad stuff from Sainsbury's and I did spend a long time in the chiller aisles I'm not complaining though, it's a nice change.

Sounds an accident prone day. Baggs the bottle sounds just the thing but be careful with the soup. Definitely not a soup day here today, its a beautiful day, warm enough for me to venture out in a t-shirt. Oh dear, soop, please avoid the garden for a bit, you definitely need to import some muscle.

You did well, jane, and time for a rest, leave the decorating for a bit.

We've also been to a beach n&g, thoroughly enjoyed it, hope your research day has gone well.

MrBaggs will be having warm beer tonight. Not really but.... I burnt my hand (palm) being what my kids used to call a "sirry irriot". Having done the cold water sloshing, I was standing by the fridge with my hand pressed against the cold metal, watching a tiny gap in the revetment (learnt that word yesterday: retaining wall. Ours is retaining the hill that is our back garden) where coal tits are nesting. MrB came along and I told him what happened. He reached into the fridge and handed me his last bottle of Cubanista rum flavoured beer. Aaaaah!

Meanwhile I'm making a big pot of soup one-handed.

soop, I thought you were forbidden to do any more gardening after last year's injury! I hope it's not too painful and heals easily.

soop, sit down immediately and rest that leg! What you need is a few brawny young men to do your hard work for you. You, meanwhile, can sit and supervise whilst enjoying a and, of course, the view.

So glad the funeral went well Jane - they are never as bad as we think they are going to be are they? I'm sure your Mum was very proud!

DofE stories remind me of DD1 doing her Silver in pouring rain only to be told when they reached the end that the whole group had failed because some of the girls had gone to the pub (not DD - that time) while at the campsite and the rest hadn't stopped them or informed on them. She refused to have anything else to do with DofE, unsurprisingly!

That is the daughter who took, and failed, her driving test 5 times before we found an ex police driving instructor who taught her to do a running commentary of everything around her. He taught her to drive in my 8 seater which he likened to driving an aircraft hanger! But, she passed and still does the running commentary!

I have been out for lunch with my oldest and best friend and, as usual, had a laugh and a good catch up. But am now waiting for a phone call from our nephew to 'chat about his mum' - sounds ominous!!!

N&G Morrisons a couple of weeks ago sent me my on line shopping and a tiny pack of Sweetex had its own carrier bag.

Oh dear! soop, I remember that you had a wound which was slow to heal and I hope you won't have the same experience this time, especially when you have your tribal gathering coming up. Are you sure you shouldn't go to the nurse right away? Please keep out of the garden!

Greyduster That is a perfect picture of a man on a serious mission.

I meant to call in at the end of yesterday afternoon. I managed to get on famously in the wild, wooded area of our garden...and then...disaster.
I had a wheelbarrow heaped high with stuff and was carefully trundling it along the narrow side pathway. As I reached the end of the path, a terrific gust of wind caught the barrow and it tipped. As it tipped, I stepped sideways and fell on to a group of bamboo stems that had been cut down to a manageable height in readiness for the new growth. One stem pierced through my jeans and gashed the very shin that still bears the scar from last year's mishap. The gash is deep and MacSporran cleaned it and dressed it. I shall keep a close eye on it. Any sign of infection and I shall visit the practice nurse.

Have a good day at the seaside, N&G! Rock pools are always at the head of our to do list - DH can’t stay out of them. Filey Brigg is our go-to for all kinds of mini sea creatures. Teeming with them. Wherever you end up, have an ice cream for me! Love the picture - Jackson will obviously go places ?!

It looks as if it will be another ‘serious hat’ day today, but we won’t be out in it much unfortunately. I will look in later.

Hello everyone! Thinking of Ann and hoping she is reaching a good conclusion.
We finally had Mum’s funeral yesterday - I had one or two wobbles but I think she would have been proud of me as she didn’t believe in floods of tears.
The church celebration was a lovely event with a full church who knew how to sing with gusto. It was a chance to catch up with many old friends and even relatives that we only see at funerals.
No excuse not to get on with the decorating now!

Oh soop why do our children think they are 'inventing' something new eh? We're all used the same excuses for many a year although the whole new shirt one was a first for me lol

And here we are worried about straws and disposable coffee cups Baggs and packaging still verges on the ridiculous. I occasionally get a Tesco's delivery and for 40p I have it delivered in bags for convenience ( i reuse all the bags) and they still persist in putting one item in a bag !!! I am not offended to have my veggies and eggs in the same bags !!! Grrrrrr

Today, we are escaping from the company of painters and heading to the seaside ! We are on a recce mission for the summer holidays . I have strict instructions from Jackson , this is what he will require :-

rock pools
ice-cream
not too much seaweed?????
chips
sand ( and a BIG bucket and spade)

so we are off on a mission!!

I did chuckle when I saw them at the weekend. Jackson has his own YouTube channel where he and his Daddy review cars ( obviously) . He has decided he needs some 'merchandise' to sell to fund his car buying so he drew me a logo for me to put on his goods !

Charley - no worries on that score. My DGD has her future mapped out, though it tends to change a bit from month to month, but it definitely doesn't involve failure! She is a real achiever. Her latest plan is to take an engineering degree.

My darling daughter after failing several driving tests, moved to Alderney and took it there.
No traffic lights, no roundabouts and very little traffic!
She’s now moved back to the mainland and I find her driving really scary!???
