soop what on earth is that object that Torben is so excited about? I am aware that I am showing my age and my ignorance.

soop Mon 23-Apr-18 17:53:06

I too would like a rhubarb gin. I'm happy to sample one on behalf of those Granspals who are watching their waistlines. In spite of all the pedalling on the exercise bike, painting/decorating and gardening and daily walks...my waistline hasn't budged a jot. Hey ho! As Baggs would say.

Away until I return from care home visit in the morning. Big hug for each of you. Please take care. smile moon

annsixty Mon 23-Apr-18 16:56:36

I? gin, rhubarb sounds good.
M&S did a cranberry one, alas no longer.
Pink is ok but rather too sweet for me.

Lona Mon 23-Apr-18 16:34:32

JaneD3 please put my name down for a large rhubarb gin, my mouth is already watering! My dd had some last week with dry ginger and said it was delicious!
ann My blood pressure goes up when I read of your treatment, good luck with these carers?

I've had one of those "moochy" days today, chatted with a couple of lovely neighbours, coffee in my favourite cafe and managed to get some nearly new stretchy jeans for my youngest gd, from the charity shop.
I'm easily pleased wink

Charleygirl Mon 23-Apr-18 14:22:43

Ann I am assuming that the arrival times of the carers, supposedly 8.30am and 7.45pm are as elastic as the last lot of so called helpers ie 11.45am and 5.30pm.

The SW needs to get her butt off her chair and do a home visit- she may have forgotten what that is! Words fail me which is unusual.

Westiegran Mon 23-Apr-18 13:06:28

Annsixty I can empathise. I have agency carers come in to help me while my husband is at work. This is the second agency I have used, first one went bust, and although the majority of carers are absolutely lovely I find the problems I encounter are management based.

Westiegran Mon 23-Apr-18 12:54:54

Thank you Soop. Oh my teeth are watering at the thought of lemon drizzle cake. Maybe just as well there is none left. The Battle of the Bulge is still constantly fought in this house. No joke when DD is a Dietician ??
Just about to have lunch and if my peepers stay open long enough the plan is to head though to my craft room and try and get some of the piles in there organised.
Not long had a major makeover and still trying to figure out where best to place things. ?

MawBroon Mon 23-Apr-18 12:21:27

Annsixty alternating between incandescent on your behalf and just very, very sad.
I used to work up a head of steam on paw’s behalf (not infrequently reported back here) and I remember it well.
Sadly “they”do not always listen to us, is your DS any good at kicking ass as well?

A complaint to the Practice Manager is essential, one to SS too but the trouble is that these take time and energy both of which will be in short supply and better spent on OH and yourself.
I can only sympathise, it brings back such unhappy memories and my only advice is keep banging on as long as you are able until you get somewhere. xx

JaneD3 Mon 23-Apr-18 12:13:16

Also making rhubarb gin grin

JaneD3 Mon 23-Apr-18 12:12:50

I am awaiting the man to do some slabbing - no sight nor sound of him! Off to DD’s hen at the weekend so baking to be done! Request for pies, like I sent when they went back and scones for a champagne cream tea. Also making a large lemon drizzle - practice for middle tier of wedding cake - and date and rhubarb loaf because we are already knee deep in rhubarb!

soop Mon 23-Apr-18 11:49:06

A very warm welcome to Westiegran Please make yourself comfortable. I doubt that there is any lemon drizzle cake left (I scoffed most of it) but one of our resident bakers will oblige. Your post made me smile. You will make new friends in this kitchen. I hope that you enjoy a pleasant day. I'm off to do some boring jobs aboot the hoos.

Hi folks ??
New to the forum and just had a good laugh looking through this thread ?.
We had a great day on Saturday at my son’s. Our one day of sunshine ☀️ had several of the grandchildren and ourselves out in the garden.
I am registered disabled and am constantly trying to come up with different ways I can come up with ways in which I can interact with the wee ones:
Using one of my walking sticks as a golf club (a rather risky pastime as my Auld legs aren’t up to much).
Crafting
Competitions on who can pick up things with my grab stick

But I hit gold on Saturday when I arrived at the house armed with Fairy liquid (other washing up liquids are acceptable), a bottle of glycerine and a pile of craft pipe cleaners.
The magic ingredients were mixed with water and the pipe cleaners were bent into large circles. We all had a great time, children and adults, blowing very large magic bubbles.
Just wondering if any other disabled Grans out there have any ideas that enables them to be more interactive with wee ones.
My ‘magic chair’, electric recliner, to you and I, is a great hit. Only Gran is able to work it ?.
My grandson loved Gran’s ‘magic’ electric bed with table across it so much That he asked for one to be included in his Christmas list ?
My younger GS wanted nothing but a ‘grabby stick’ just like Gran’s from the white bearded man. Needless to say that wish was granted and he couldn’t wait to show it to me ?.

I often feel I miss out, because I tire easy, on doing ‘normal’ things like their other grandparents like babysitting, taking them on days out etc but my ‘magic’ equipment seems, for now, to make up for things a wee bit. After all we all need a bit of magic in our lives? ?‍♀️

ann It's an utter disgrace. I went hot under the collar when I read your post. Bloody wotsits...I'm lost for words. Talk about "do it yourself", it appears that you are the only clued-up individual in the sorry saga. You and your husband deserve better than this. flowers

soop Mon 23-Apr-18 11:25:26

Mornin' all. I have a bunch of jobs to settle down to but I wished to look in and check that you lot are behaving.

Maw anno (together with other Granspals) has given you sound advice. Listen to the voice of reason and smile smile smile

Before I dash...this photo of Torben was the first of today's treats. Wow!

annsixty Mon 23-Apr-18 11:14:57

Lots of typos " not me M'Lud"

annsixty Mon 23-Apr-18 11:13:23

Well Maw at least you can still wear jeans, I hadn't worn them for years.
I had a call from the SW this morning with the bald statement ,my care package was starting tomorrow, 2 visits, 8:30am and 7:45pm.
I asked who with ans she named an agency, I asked if they will be coming to do an assessment, no, they will turn up at 8:30am.
I googled the agency to discover they only registered on April 3rd.
I rang them direct , they knew nothing about my H and had no new clients registered.
SW rang back and said they will be out to do an assessment tomorrow at 11am.
I told her I was not best pleased and she said I can try them but cancel if I am not happy?

Incidentally when I brought my H home on Friday I gave the stall 3 hours to sort out meds and discharge letter etc.
After 3 and a half hours when nothing was done I was told they would send the meds and a Dr would ring me.
At 7:20pm I got a call to say his meds were ready to be picked up.
I politely told them What I had been told with lots of witnesses and they were delivered by taxi at 8:30.
Still no call from a Dr.

MawBroon Mon 23-Apr-18 10:58:38

Probably split because I need a bigger size - a bit like my jeans sad

Agus Mon 23-Apr-18 10:33:10

I’m just searching for my sewing box to repair that split infinitive ?

MawBroon Mon 23-Apr-18 10:28:18

brew
Thank you.
I do not like to unintentionally give offence (sorry about the split infinitive).
On the other hand if or when I do mean to....... wink - not that I ever would, would I?

Agus Mon 23-Apr-18 10:10:46

Maw Please don’t let a simple misunderstanding by someone who chooses to blow things out of proportion get to you.

Stay for a blether in the kitchen, relax and how do you take your coffee? Fresh pot just made and .......breath?

kittylester Mon 23-Apr-18 09:41:26

It wasn't just you Maw. So don't worry about it!

annodomini Mon 23-Apr-18 09:39:54

Och, Maw, dinnae fash yersel! If someone has chosen (and it is a choice) to take offence. just let it wash over you. You're comfortable here and we understand you. One offended poster in the great scheme of GN is a small pebble thrown into a big pool - not very many ripples! xx sunshine

Charleygirl Mon 23-Apr-18 08:52:12

Maw please ignore others, have another look at little Flynn admiring all those beautiful bubbles blowing. Have a look at Hattie having a quiet snooze and count your blessings.

If it is somebody on GN you think you have upset they are not worth the time of day or giving them a second thought. You have had a fabulous time with family and friends lately-enjoy.

MawBroon Mon 23-Apr-18 08:43:23

Oh lor’ I have upset somebody yesterday it seems and I was having such a nice few days. Charleygirl you are right, I shouldn’t be let out of the Kitchen, now I am back to rock bottom and the clouds have gathered over in more ways than outside sad

Gagagran Mon 23-Apr-18 08:33:34

It's St George's Day (and Shakespeare's birthday) and The Duchess of Cambridge has just been admitted into the Lindo Wing to have her baby! Hope she has a trouble free, safe delivery. It's always an anxious time for all concerned.

I am off to see the local RA Regiment parade through our small town with their band playing stirring marches and we locals clapping the soldiers who we often see doing their shopping locally! The sun is shining for them. It will be a foot-tapping, joyful occasion.
