About once a year I bump into a lady when I'm out shopping and she always stops to ask how I am and how are the family? The problem is that although she looks familiar I have no idea why I know her! Every time we meet I'm left wondering who the hell she is!

I used to have a neighbour a couple of doors up we were not best friends or anything but used to stop for a chat if we met
A few weeks ago I was going through a package of old photos and found one of a party at my house and could clear.y see her and her ex husband there, although I had no recollection of her ever coming to my house I put the photos in my bag as I knew I d bump into her before long I really felt concerned at my complete blank memory Anyway next time I saw her in the street I told her I d got something to show her and pulled out the photo She looked then looked again and then said when did we ever come to your house I ve got no recollection of a party at your place
It must have been one good party ??

Years ago our children were at a club, mothers standing around the edge waiting. I started to talk a woman, I said I recognise your face but I don’t know where from? She replied...I am your neighbour blush

Someone came up to me in a supermarket and started chatting years ago, and I had to ask them who they were. Turned out to be a friend of my neighbours. But, because I'd only ever spoken to them in our street seeing them in different surrounding really threw me. Mind you, it always surprises me when people recognise me when I'm out and about wearing no make up [something I would never have done a few years ago]. Oopsadaisy grin!!

I’m not sure if this is right for this thread or if it should go into the Foot into Mouth one.
We had to collect DHs company car from its service and MOT recently and I spotted a lady with a salesman, he was congratulating her and handing over car keys, she was obviously buying a brand new very expensive car, and I mean, extremely expensive, still unable to place her she waved and said “hi, new Car” and I said “Gosh have you robbed a bank or something, and I laughed “
Her face fell and as I walked out of the showroom door I realised that she worked in our local bank!
Oops.

I remember when DS was 13 and I went to his parents' afternoon and realised that the woman I had seen at the gym, whose face I was sure I knew, was one of his teachers. She had been looking at me and thinking the same. We were not in the right 'boxes' so neither of us knew how we knew each other. DS was mortified at the thought of his teacher and mother in lycra together!

I still cringe when I remember asking someone (whom I know perfectly well) what her job was when I met her in a place where I don't usually see her instead of in the office where she works. blush

I do this all the time. If I see someone I know in the 'wrong' place then the chances are I won't recognise them. It's not new. I've always had this problem.

It's worse when you think "Who is that grumpy looking woman" and realise you're walking towards a mirror.

I now go round with a inane smile on my face instead......

I was thinking “who is this little old lady?” When I usually think of her as young and striking looking!

Yes you are mostlyharmless

Oh sorry, I mean, no you're not.

I take my dad for a coffee at the same time, in the same coffee shop every week. One of the ladies who works there is lovely and always has a little chat with us.
Last week I bumped into her in Asda and said "what are you doing here?" (stupid question) followed by "I've never seen you with your clothes on before" shock WHAT?

The other day a woman came up to me in a nearby town and said my name and waved at me. She had a woolly hat pulled firmly down over her hair.
I couldn’t think who it was for several seconds. Then I realised it was my best friend of forty years!
I meet up with her regularly and should know what she looked like, but out of context, with this large fluffy hat hiding her hair and in a different town it just threw me!
Am I going mad?
