Childhood memories! My Dad was a very calm, down to earth man but he had a real crush on Katie Boyle. We used to tease him about it. Lovely lady I think.

I sing the song 'Sing little birdie' to my DGC - for some reason it went into my head and has stayed there ever since - along with pretty well every other song that I heard as a youngster; no idea why, but I'm at present singing the latest addition to sleep with the same medley of Victorian music hall songs/songs that I learnt in the junior school choir/Children's Favourites ('I'm a pink toothbrush' anyone?) that have worked well for the last 45 years...

According to her obituary in the Daily Telegraph today, she insisted on trying the Camay soap before advertising it. It bought her out in a terrible rash - so they changed the formula!

My father fancied her as well Mum pretended to like her (through gritted teeth)

What was the name of the series in the sixties where she played the main character? She dashed around in a sports car putting the world to rights - or something like that.

I can't remember the name of the programme but I can remember the theme tune.

It is all because of Katie Boyle that my husband and I have been married for 32 years.

She had a column in a magazine back in the 1980s. It could have been something like a problem page, or a letter page. Anyway, someone wrote to her and in her reply she mentioned penpals and that the Royal Navy had an internal magazine where they ran penpal ads.

I responded to an advert in the Navy News (or may have put an ad in myself - I can't just remember the details now) and my husband became my penpal.

Isobel Bamett was of the same charming and well spoken ilk as KB. The 'shoplifting' incident was huge news and I remember seeing a little clip of her saying, dejectedly , that she couldn't understand why everyone was so interested in an elderly lady making a mistake in a shop. I think she committed suicide soon after. Amazing how this all comes flooding back.

Yes, you're correct. I knew of the Isobel Barnett incident as I used to watch her on 'What's My Line' with Gilbert Harding and others.
The mistake I made was reading about her demise online where one particular snippet put random info about others of the same era mixed in with her name, thus making it seem as if that incident was attributed to Katie Boyle.
I Googled the incident after you pointed it out so thanks for that.

My Dad always said Katie was the only woman he would leave Mum for! Looks like he would have been in a queue with all these other fathers. Even as a child I admired her beauty and poise, and that cultured voice. RIP.

My father fancied her loads. He was a great fan. I'm trying to remember some other heartthrobs he had, but this is Katie Boyle's thread.

I remember her very 50s hair and lovely skin.

Not too clever as she was arrested and fined for shoplifting years ago.

My late FIL had a fond memory of dear Katie Boyle. He drove through London on a regular basis and got into a very tight spot.
The lovely KB popped her head out of her car and called, "I think I'd better reverse." She had to go back quite a long way to let FIL out. As he passed her he waved a 'thank you' and she flashed him the brightest smile. He was always a little bit in love with her after that. RIP KP

Pearl and Teddy are being well looked after in Brinsworth House, the nursing home in Twickenham funded by proceeds of the Royal Variety Performance.

I remember reading an interview where she said she'd had a breast reduction and it was the best thing she'd ever done. That stuck with me, having large boobies myself!

Brian Johnson lived in the same street as I did when kids. He also went to the same primary school as me but he didn't pass for the grammar school.
