I like the print and the length of this dress. My concern is the smocking. Surely it’s not a good look for a 64 year old with an ample chest?

I think your last sentence says it all

Gerispringer Tue 20-Mar-18 18:46:32

In a word - no.

Bridgeit Tue 20-Mar-18 18:52:57

Bridgeit Tue 20-Mar-18 18:53:40

Ohhps though it is NOT thoughtful ?

Envious Tue 20-Mar-18 18:53:44

Thanks don’t know what I was thinking! I’m laughing now. grin

I am squinting at the photo - is it actually smocked (elasticated smocking) or are those very small permanent pleats?

As someone who mother nature blessed overabundantly with front upholstery, I would say it depends on where the shaping if it is smocked hits you.

It will look like hell if the front padding sits a little low on the body. I would say this dress demands some of those extremely uplifting underpinnings that are thankfully available for the abundant amongst us these days.

I like Bravissimo for a good in store fitting. Figleaves and brastop have excellent large bras online at decent prices. Simply Be also have a good range and fairly regular discounts.

As for brands, Freya and Panache in my experience keep the shoulder boulders where they are supposed to be.

Think I had a similar one in the 70s. Possibly an error then never mind now!

Envious Tue 20-Mar-18 18:57:17

Yes it’s smocking. Last time I saw smocking it was on a toddler.

I think my very slim DD could get away with it - but then she would never pick that colour.

Sorry, but it's a sickly shade of pink, which is not good for anyone over the age of 6.

Is the price in American or Australian $?

I see it quite a bit on the lower back of dresses to give them a bit of waist shaping, but right across a larger bust is going to look hellish imho.

M0nica Tue 20-Mar-18 19:31:57

Only if you are very slim and have a small neat bust.

Jalima1108 Tue 20-Mar-18 19:44:40

or were 6 or under

MissAdventure Tue 20-Mar-18 21:32:53

It looks a bit 'Abigail's Party'.

Chewbacca Tue 20-Mar-18 21:40:12

No, I wouldn't.

mrsmopp Tue 20-Mar-18 21:46:10

Would I wear it?
Only to sleep in.

Thanks everyone no I didn’t try it on it’s in a catalog. It appeared to me to be peach color but now it does look pink! Anyway I’m no slim lady. It was in a catalog targeted to mature women. It’s from Coldwater Creek in the US
