Ant and Dec- will it now be just Dec? Celebrity gossip alert

Drink driving is wrong and ant should be treated like any other member of public who drives under the influence . I must admit I am a bit fed up of seeing them fronting all the shows maybe it's time for the pair of them to slow down and give others a chance . As for holly and Phil I can't stand to watch them giggling like school children but people will put them on a pedestal saying how hard they work they are paid well but it never seems enough for ""celebs" they are just ordinary people who lucky enough to be doing something they enjoy .

Drink driving is extremely dangerous .

I have watched the pair and its light entertainment when sat at home...easy to watch etc. I don't dislike either of them they can be entertaining and yes cheeky chappies especially Ant.

But drink driving is drink driving no excuses, but some continually think they can get away with it and it does make you wonder how many times people do drive under the influenze and get away with it..not just celebs but just anybody.

I have only ever seen a glimpse of these two on TV presenting some award or other. I don't understand their appeal or what it is they are famous for - what is their talent?

Feel very sorry for both Ant and especially Dec who must have found it very difficult watching his friend and partner going through the difficulties he's had the last couple of years. Whilst I definitely don't condone drinking and driving we don't know the circumstances yet or when he had last been drinking so shouldn't be too quick to judge.

Where they go from here remains to be seen - they have to film the last two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway so with Ant in therapy it either has to be an entirely different host or someone who could work with Dec - Stephen Mulhern possibly.

I too love the Geordie accent - I come from up that way so it always reminds me of my childhood

I don't watch breakfast telly but Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby should now think twice about drinking all night after awards ceremonies then turning up at the studio dishevelled and giggly. Their behaviour appeared to be condoned by their bosses as the publicity improved the ratings.

Such a hypocritical industry.

How about we wait for him to be charged and then appear in court. I hate the fact that he has been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion.
I would like to make it clear that I do not condone drink driving in any way.

For those asking about his mother letting him drive, who knows what happened. I suspect he has been well protected/guarded and she was scared to walk away & phone the police which any sane person would do.
But anyone who has been around an alcoholic who binge drinks will know one minute they are having a couple of glasses of wine & seem fine, next they are totally pie eyed due to a bottle of vodka in the handbag downed in the loo or ordering doubles & drinking them at the bar whilst waiting for the rest of the round to arrive. I am glad no one was harmed & hope this is his 'rock bottom' and he can recover in his own time without the pressure of tv contracts & work. Also imagine knowing that your best mate & work partner cannot work without you, so that is a pressure in itself. I'm not making excuses, but his struggle is just as hard as anyone whose drinking is out of control, multi millionaire or not.

I feel a bit sorry for Ant - after all, any mistake he makes is splashed all over the papers. He can't suffer in silence like the rest of us do.
I hope he manages to get through this, though I gather that neither he nor Dec would need to work again with all the riches they're lucky to have made over the years. I can't help but think that if he had a sensible hobby (reading/gardening) instead of drinking it would help.
I wonder if the need for publicity, public approval, attention (or whatever you call it) simply goes with the territory of having a job in the public eye.

I am exceptionally sad for Ant and Dec. I'm guessing Ant also has mental health difficulties. Obviously, he has to be charged but it's sad like the various footballers/pop stars who have been on self-destruct.

Sad to say this could be a blessing in disguise A&D are past their best fronting the same old shows every year and to me their charm has worn off. I only watchBGT and hopefully some new presenters and just think the jungle may get axed

Gosh there is a lot of blame on here, his mum, his fame, his money, his marriage breakdown, his knee pain, his accent and his family background.. Truth is he broke the law.

On the subject of accents, it looks like the distinction between Geordie and Wearside must be the same as for a Birmingham and a Black Country accent. The former is an accent, the latter, a dialect.

Must admit, I do like the Geordie accent. Or it could be Wearside....

There is only one point of comparison between Ant and Dec and Morecambe and Wise: it's impossible to imagine one without the other.

I don't think we should be too hard on his mother without knowing the full facts. She will have been going through a very worrying time and has been doing her best to support him. The alcohol could have been in his system from earlier.

Ant had a chance to rebuild his life after the last spell in re-hab but was pushed straight back into the limelight. I wouldn't mind betting those around him, including Dec and his mother, were just waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Drink driving is inexcusable but I hope he now accepts the help he obviously needs and eventually recovers.

DannieRae I agree with you entirely. I love Ant and Dec and feel so sorry this has happened to Ant.

He effed up, and I am sure he admits how badly he effed up. Which for the record, is totally. Even if he was still suffering from the night before. If you have a drinking problem, you are not safe to drive.

His rehab clearly didn't get to the bottom of his problems, and only focused on getting him off pulls. Bad work there.

His problems with his wife alone would affect anyone severely. That isn't an excuse for the drink driving, but it underlines that he needs intensive therapy as well as rehab.

I was slightly younger than Ant and Dec when they started on Byker Grove. I watched it every weeks. Then when they tried being pop stars, I saw their gigs, I read about them in Smash Hits every week. I had the posters. Then they became big TV stars and I was thrilled for them.

People of my age or thereabouts have grown up along with Ant and Dec. The media gives us a false impression that we 'know' them, but whilst it may be false, it is both powerful and extremely widespread, to judge from my social media this morning.

I hope he gets well. I hope their careers get back on track, but mostly I hope that Ant gets well and finds peace with himself.

If that was you or me I suspect we would be jailed for being that drunk not sent for ‘help’! ?

I don’t know one single man like Ant . None that “go out drinking every weekend in the Toon” and certainly none that drink drive either .

I do think we find more sympathy for celebrities who suffer from addictions than we do for the average person. Especially those celebrities that have sadly died prematurely from their addictions. Whilst we've a tendency to look down our noses a bit at other more 'ordinary people'. And yet the celebrities are the ones that seem to have the least excuses/reasons. They seem to have everything going for them and lives most of us envy. Marriage breaks up, whilst just as emotional for all people, must be much less stressful if you don't have to worry about affording somewhere to live and whether you are going to be able to put food on the table. Plus some of them seem to swallow prescription painkillers as if they are Smarties. And celebrities can afford the best help. So I'm actually feeling a little unsympathetic towards Ant. More because he was stupid enough to drink and drive. He could have got a taxi. Surprised his mother let him drive.

Re Geordie men comment. My SiL is a Geordie. He's kind, hard working, generous, handsome, a lovely husband and father, and really funny too. Wonderful.
