Mary Berry - irritating?

I think she is great for her age. She is enthusiastic and seems like a nice person. The programmes that come from her home show a beautiful house and gardens and everything in her garden seems rosy. Of course, I know she has had tragedies in her life, like losing her son, so it's not all perfect.
I get the impression that she knows what she wants and goes for it, you can't knock her for that. My teenage granddaughter loves her. We were watching one of her programmes recently and my DH said 'Sorry but there's something about her I don't like.' My DGD was shocked. She said 'Grandad, how could you'

I hate it when we do this. Criticise someone in the public eye who can't answer back. For heaven's sake, she seems like a perfectly pleasant woman. If you don't like her, don't watch her, it's that simple. Fair enough if you don't like the programme and say so, but to pick on personal stuff about a person is unfair in my opinion.

I really like Mary berry she speaks well and always looks good. I don’t however like all her food far too free with sugar and fat for me. Such an excellent role model for older women.

Really women folk!! At last.... we don't like cooking programs....how soon before some of us can admit to disliking cooking!! I hate it!! Been doing it since I was 12 years old. If I was on my own I would live very happily on eggs, beans, fish.... And a couple cans of rice pud. I would NEVER eat bread or spuds again..... Happy Days!

Who the hell wants healthy cake??? I thought bake off was great have used MB all in one cake recipes for years and don't mind her at all. I equally enjoy the new bake off without her (sorry MB) & am more interested in Mr Hollywood truth be known. Can't stand Gordon (don't like the over use of swearing although a bit is acceptable ) but still watch him. I find the ones on Masterchef the most supercilions and irritating so don't watch that.

Oooh, but Saint Nigella is far, far more irritating!

I was only thinking how much more I prefer Prue Leith when I was watching Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off the other day. She seems much more fun than Mary and gels well with the other presenters; she even brings out a better side to Paul Hollywood.

Mary Berry has said she only eats a small portion of her own baking creations but I can imagine Prue tucking in; she is much more human and easier to relate to.

I wonder what it is about we women in hat we always have to pull others down, wether it's their age, weight appearance, personality or the fact that they are 'doing well'.
Okay, we are not programmed to like everyone, but let it be for evil deeds, not for false nails.

Living out of the UK as I do, I haven't suffered the overdose of Mary Berry. I did, however, catch a programme when I was staying with my mother recently.

She seems quite pleasant and I thought she was very good with the schoolchildren she helped make a meal from their school garden. They seemed to like her, too. I have used a couple of her recipes from the BBC website and find them perfectly acceptable. The very rich stuff, I just read the recipe but don't copy it!

To be honest, I'm a bit fed up with cookery programs all together although I do still enjoy Nigel Slater.

I can't see a problem with saying you don't like someone on TV henetha as basically they are in showbiz and just showing off in front of the cameras for a lot of money.

Maybe we could start a thread about people we do like on TV , but everyone won't agree anyway.

She is a little schoolmarmish but in 2016 she attended our National Trust house and was on her feet all day (she is over 80 remember) and had a smile and pleasant remark for everyone, including me, who drove her on the buggy! Hope I have that energy if I ever make it to her age.

I loved the jokey rapport she had with a Swedish chef on last week's episode of her latest series. I can't remember his name but he was drop dead gorgeous and certainly put a twinkle in her eye.

I rather like her too and agree life hasn't always been kind to her. Have to say the TV schedulers have a lot to answer for when they over-expose certain people on our screens and end up with so many negative opinions like these expressed here Awful!

I neither like nor dislike Mary Berry but, then again, as a non cook I tend not to watch cookery programmes. What I was bemused by was how quickly she turned into a national treasure/almost cult like figure. I don't like Prue Leith at all after her appearance on Question Time, though.

I don,t mind MB, I still remember watching her on a programme called Houseparty? I think it was called in the 70s, and felt quite inspired by her baking. I think she looks attractive and smart although not keen on false eyelashes on anyone whatever their age. Out of all the cookery programmes I enjoy watching Nigel Slater the most, either cooking in his own home with produce from his garden or his recent programme of travelling and all the inspirational dishes he saw and tried. The film called Toast shown on TV a few years ago about his childhood and how he became interested in cooking and baking and how his career came about.

She chooses to be on TV, she is very well paid for it and must love showing off as she seems to be on almost everything and in most women's magazines every week/month too. I don't have to like her (or anyone else on TV for that matter) I do pay a licence fee after all.

As Mary Berry has never done anything to offend me personally, I have no reason to dislike her.
Her recipes are good, and I think she’s an example to us oldies.
I couldn’t bear Granny Haddock, she was so patronising and so horrible to her poor old husband. I’ll take the current celebrity cooks any day!

I'm fond of Mary Berry. She remnds me a little of my mother at the same age who was an excellent cook herself. There's a mixture of kindness, 'do it the right way' and with a twinkle in her eye too. She has a place in the wide range of cookery programmes on tv and has an impressive history of cooking and writing.
But my favourite will always be Keith Floyd.

I don't know what's not to like about Mary and her recipes are simple to follow. She also hasn't ever let her disability stop her doing anything and she doesn't try to hide it on screen. I think you lot are being quite bitchy today.

I'm sure Mary Berry is aware that she isn't everyone's cup of tea. Who is?
I don't suppose she cares, really, as my thinking she is too thin makes no difference to her life.

Whether we like them or not, I do feel some people are over exposed. Actually, it is the over exposure which tends to turn me off them. The latest for me is Debbie Mcgee
