Clumsy me!!

I am very accident prone. As a child I had muscle problems & would trip over a feather apparently! I spend alot of time in the kitchen and can often be seen sporting a plaster.
The worst thing I did was a teen , trying to separate frozen sausages with a meat fork. It slipped and embedded down the side of my thumb nail to the knuckle! Sore doesn't describe it ?.
I will not be buying a mandolin (of any description ?) for all the reasons laid pud in the horror stories above. Good luck.... I hope your fingers recover very soon ⚘

I usually have quite long fingernails, sliced a few of them but never the top of a finger. DH had a mandolin in the kitchen which I refused to use, knives yes, the right one for the job, chefs learn the correct way to cut/chop using knives.

I would never use the hedge trimmer preferring shears & as for a chainsaw that would be an accident waiting to happen a step too far

Ouch, poor you! I hope you're just sitting down now and not venturing into the kitchen for the foreseeable. Let your DH be head cook and bottle washer for the next week or so while you sit and supervise. From a distance

And remember, if he does a good job, then you can always spin it out a bit longer - I promise I won't let on

I bought a mandolin after a Vietnamese cooking course but ..... it’s very VERY sharp and I sliced a couple of fingers. Too lazy to use the pushy guard thingy for the mandolin! DH bought me a mandolin and a Ken Hom cleaver one year as part of my Christmas present. He'd recently developed an interest in more cheffie type cooking, so guess who they were really for. Needless to say, he was the first to use mandolin and first to slice top of finger as he probably thought it a bit sissie to use the safety guard. I've used it myself but only with guard. Watched James Martin recently and he was whizzing through vegetables on a mandolin without a guard - I couldn't look. Setting a really bad example to home cooks. Hope your poor finger is getting lots of TLC,

Last week I caught my finger in the bannister at work, then fell up the steps at home bruised finger, then cut the same finger when peeling potatoes, ?

Poor OP! What a chapter of accidents. Please take it very easy until it's all healed!

Must say I'm very wary of mandolins - a friend of ours who was constantly buying all sorts of gadgets (mostly never used) sliced the top off a finger with this new 'toy' shortly before we visited - arrived to find an empty house and blood all over the kitchen floor.
It had cost £40 - or so he very grumpily said when my Dh went and very firmly dropped the bloody thing in the bin.

My dad used to say that I could trip over fresh air!

I sliced a small piece off the top of my finger a few years ago using a mandoline . Cockily I thought I could use it without the slicing thingy with the prongs. I never made that mistake again.

Promise you won't go out gardening this weekend and use a chain saw.

After a series of mishaps, instead of day-dreaming when doing boring jobs, I now really try to concentrate.

Or get DH to peel and slice the vegetables!

Wear a fingerstall; it will protect your finger, preveny you from carrying out mundane tasks, and earn you an immense amount of sympathy.

I am not a cook by any means which is probably why your mention of cutting your finger on a mandolin left me wondering if you had been guesting on Rod Stewart recordings all these years Kitty. Then I realised what you meant. ( Be careful when you venture into the garden with your secateurs. I nearly took my thumb off last week with a very sharp new pair!).

I was going to say that accidents come in threes, but your poor finger has suffered four. Ouch. Perhaps it's down to you circadian rhythms, if you believe in that.
DH won't go near my knives, he's scared of them now. When I first got them he dropped one and it went through his foot causing a trip to A&E to have the wound glued.

I think the trouble is that one mishap causes you to do things slightly differently and makes you more vulnerable to another.

Have your concentration levels decreased in any way.
Has your eyesight changed?
Are you on any new medication ?
Are you recovering from a virus?
All of the above could be a cause of all these little accidents but do be careful and go see gp if things keep happening .
