RIP Stephen Hawking

I could not believe it when DH told me this morning, Stephen Hawking is immortal.
RIP a brilliant man.

An amazing and inspirational man , who will leave a never ending legacy.

A great man has left this earth. But he also left us with the thought. We should "Look up at the stars and not down at our feet" And to be curious about the universe.

When Ken Dodd died local radio was awash with phone ins and tributes to him. A man with one of the greatest minds in the world, who has contributed so much to our understanding of the universe dies and is only mentioned in news bulletins. I hope there are plans for programmes about his inspirational life. (Please don't take this as an attack on Ken Dodd - it's not).

Amazing man to have lived so long. Have to say that because a lot of people with that illness don’t normally live that long. Had a friend who’s husband had the same illness he died within five years.

I will be listening to him on Thursday in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on R4 at 1830. "A brain the size of a planet" comes to mind for those of you who know.

He was offered a knighthood in the 90s but turned it down because of the way the government funded science.

I saw him in John Lewis in Cambridge and found myself quite star struck by the sighting. Amazing Man. RIP.

My DS met him a few times as he studied at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge where Dr Hawking had a ground floor room and there were loads of ramps etc in the college built especially for him. DS was really star struck whenever he saw him. Why didn't he get a knighthood btw?

Sad news - but my goodness he outlived all expectations.

He also had a great sense of humour. When asked what he thought was the biggest mystery of the universe was he replied --- Women.

Truly an amazing man. I too almost thought of him as immortal!

I remember he once said 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.'

Yes, I had somehow thought he was immortal. RIP.
