How do you pronounce Nougat?

Noo-gah. But yes, as a child it was always nugget, and I really have no memory of when I switched.
And it was Nestles, not Nesslay. Scone to rhyme with cone.

The French pronounciation.

Nugget, scone, skedule, garridge, olmand.

When I was a child I, along with everyone else I knew, pronounced it 'nugget'

Now I am older and posher or since I learnt French I pronounce it noogah.

I'm aware it's not correct, but I call it nugget too.

In the old days, the word homage used to be pronounced homidge but now most people give it the French pronunciation, at least when talking about films.

I'm glad I don't eat it, because I'd feel silly asking for noogah.

Always called it noogar. Never eat it though as I don’t like it!

eloethan, as far as I’m concerned it’s still homidge. There are various poems and hymns that wouldn’t scan properly if we used the French pronunciation, which I think has come via America and which, like most American pronunciations, drives me mad.

Never mind the nugget, "skedule" is the American pronunciation of the English word "schedule". Skedule really grates on me!

I never liked it, but my family - back in mid-century - would have said nugget. If I was called upon to use the word, nowadays, it would be the French pronunciation.

Grew up in Devon, always said 'nugget' (and skon!)

There's also montelimar . Is nougat a place name too?
