Snow Play

I've been laughing at the videos my children have sent me of them playing in the snow today - and yes, my children are all adults, but the magic of being outdoors has a strong pull on my offspring (they get it from their father). As youngsters they would stay out until forced indoors by their wicked mother who feared they would get frostbite. I remember well one holiday when they were in their late teens and we visited snowy Norway in February and my boys and their dad all ran out into the garden to play in the snow wearing only swimming shorts!! (And I have the photo's to prove it.)

My grandaughter in Devon burst into tears on hearing school was closed this morning. She was all ready for World Book Day .......she soon perked up once she was on the sledge

My two grandsons were playing out as school was closed their two cousins were visiting. Dd said they did the snow angel thing and what else that all the kids do in snow and in the end all but the oldest child were crying because they were so cold. In the end they refused to even go into the back garden to play.
To be fair the windchill where they live was about minus 12 in the afternoon. It was seriously cold outside today . Wrong clothes perhaps.

we are at the start of a nor'easter that will leave up to 45cm of snow and i can guarentee there thousands of kids and a lot of adults who are hopping up in down in antisapation.

All the children are playing in the snow today where DS and family live.

What is a snow angel?

My DiL says that all the children in their close were out playing in the snow today, as no school. She said it was lo Ely seeing all ages playing together.

Children in my village have certainly been making the most of the snow - lovely - has been a wonderful time for them, lots of great memories made whilst the school is closed

Who says children can't play out? They were sledging on the fields when I took the dogs out this afternoon.

Living on the South Downs I can remember many times as a child trekking out with sledge, and remembering the joy we always took our children and grandchildren out at every opportunity.

That sounds lovely.

Where we lved before we have a balcony on our bedroom (there's posh - but it was very small!) and we could sit in bed with a cup of tea and watch the children sledging down the hill opposite our home - it was a joy.

On a similar theme a local child had enjoyed a Forest School day at his school, he was talking to my daughter about how to make an arrow. He said the trouble was he didn’t know where to get a stick from. They live in a village with a country park as well as a canal and play park! You could weep for some children couldn’t you?

I tramped to Waitrose today and couldn’t resist stopping off to have a look at the fun on the field at the end of my road. Wasn’t tempted to join in though!

DGD's sledge had broken; I saw one recently in Homebase but didn't buy it because I thought winter was over!
Never mind, they may have a tin tray or they can build a snowman instead.

That is so sad. When mine were school age we dropped everything if it snowed and went out to make the most of it. A few years ago with no children to play with I went into the garden and made a snow angel just for myself.

What a shame.

Our granddaughter came in from school yesterday afternoon and went straight into the garden to finish making the snowman that grandpa had started. She was out there for ages, having a whale of a time, and insisted that she wasn't cold (she must have been).

On the other hand, her brother had no interest in going out and wanted to do jigsaws with me.

If sledging had been on the menu, I'm sure both of them would be out of the door like a shot.

Not allowed to go sledging!!!! - whatever next!?
