My OH (who has PD) now has a cold and, although he has no temp and is not seriously ill, it has laid him out - he is very weak and much less mobile. As always the nights are the worst and I was up to him twice last night as he could not change his position in bed, nor get up to the loo.
I am a bit concerned about this as I have osteoporosis in my spine and a history of slipped discs. It gives me pain to move him and get him out of bed - but it has to be done.
I don't mind momentary pain, but am worried that I may slip a disc or cause something incapacitating, in which case we are sunk. If this happens I won't be able to help him and he won't be able to help me!
He only weighs 7 stone, but it is dead weight when I have to move him.
I have talked to OT before about him not being able to change his position in bed and the gadget she sent gets in the way of him getting out of bed. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and found a way round this. OT refused a monkey pole as she said it was not safe - but there is nothing safe about me struggling to haul him about.
His problems are at their worst at night - during the day he seems to cope and can mainly (tho not always) get out of a chair by himself.
