Phew! Hope its backdated!

Yes - it has happened quite quickly. I sent the second lot of forms off dated 2nd Feb - so about 3 weeks, which was quicker than I expected. And it is backdated to 2nd Feb - and that backdated sum is already in the account!

I am assuming that the fact that the PD nurse endorsed the fact that he is at the latter stages of PD meant that it was able to go through smoothly.

It will be a great help with high bills; and also mean that if I want to go out I could justify paying someone to come in and sit with him if needs be. At the moment he has the lifeline pendant so can get help if I go out; but there is no telling what the future may hold in terms of deterioration.

Great , as you say it helps that you can pay for a sitter , it really helps you when you can get out , I get a sitter to go to the Seniors club and to my painting class . Just been told the Trust Carers won,t be here this evening due to the weather. Can't blame them , they all get paid peanuts compared to what we pay the agency

LuckyGirl. This may not apply to you. I don't wish to pry. When a person is awarded AA, consider applying to Council for a reduction in Council Tax. Also, when AA is in payment, Carers Allowance can be claimed. If you are in receipt of a State Benefit or Pension, the CA won't be paid, but may still be worth claiming because you would have an "underlying entitlement" which attracts a Carers Premium if you are receiving Pension Credit. Or the addition of the Carers Premium may bring you into entitlement to Pension Credit.

WARNING. It is 4 years since I left DWP so check if this might apply to you.

Thanks all - and Pat I have looked into some of these benefits but for various reasons do not seem to qualify. We have a bit of savings which we are hanging on to in case the roof needs repairing etc., so that takes us out of the qualifying conditions for most other things.
