Oldmeg it is very easy to get pulled into Prime you have to make sure you OPT OUT otherwise Your stuffed (well that’s how it was when I got caught up with it) and that is underhand and sly
It’s not the service that is bad but the way you are caught in it
The same happens with Ryanair you have to opt out of their insurance if you miss that little box amongst all the other boxes you are stuffed
Click and collect is a nightmare with many shops Why should I pay £4.99 to travel to town to pick up a package that could be delivered to my door for the same amount Another con I was caught out by with Sports Direct

I currently have Prime for free for a year. It was a giveaway with a newspaper subscription I took out.

Because of Amazon's dubious tax regime and employees' working conditions I prefer to use other smaller retailers or real life shops.

It does have its uses, though.

It is so easy to join inadvertently Luckygirl; Amazon Prime comes up as the default for delivery and you have to be careful to ignore that and go on to the other delivery options available otherwise you find you have joined.

You can cancel within a month I think, but perhaps if you phone them and explain they will cancel your membership.

I like Amazon Prime. There are some good tv series and films. The grandchildren like their choice of programmes when they allowed IPad time. I like being able to choose any song I fancy on Alexa. It suits us.

I have heard that others likeNetflix so I might give them a whirl.

I have been a Prime member for a few years now and love it. I especially love the way my music collection has grown. I have created many playlists of all sorts of music. I also get free books for the Kindle and watch lots of films and boxed sets. Given I also get next day delivery with free postage I think it's great value for money. I wouldn't be without it. (I was given a Fire Stick as a present but have yet to connect it to my TV.) I am thinking of ditching expensive Virgin.

Bluebell it’s not underhand, just a matter of reading carefully before you press buttons. I used Amazon for several years for just the odd bits and bobs before I took out Prime membership. Never was ‘lured’ in ?

In fact they always now send an email telling me when it’s due and that they will be taking the money from my account. Not only that, but when a Prime article failed to arrrive on time I complained and was given a free months membership.

I fnd them very efficient. If if ask for a call back they do so within a minute.

I wish other services such as NHS operated as effectively.

Sorting out the bank accounts after I lost paw I found that he had taken out an Amazon Prime subscription. Whether deliberately, as he bought many books from Amazon, or by default because of the sneaky way they don’t make it clear, I don’t know. However cancelling it instantly was easy.
1) cancel the Direct Debit and 2) go into Amazon and cancel.

I'm another who found myself an Amazon Prime member without my knowledge. I appreciate some may see me as as easily "lured in" - Amazon Prime is the only thing I ever joined without knowing I was doing so.
As it's happened to so many of us here, I suspect it can be accused of being underhand.
The suggestion that the NHS ought to be as efficient made me . That's rare emotion for me, especially on a sunny Sunday when I'm enjoying a cup of coffee and a lazy start to the day.

Bluebelle.I object to the charge for click and collect at Sports Direct however when you collect your item you get
£5 voucher. It is valid for 2 years, I think, but of course you have to spend it at Sports Direct!

Amazon prime works for me although I did choose to pay for it. Use it a lot for online shopping and TV viewing must admit don't use it for music streaming but find it useful and efficient usually things arrive the next day and you can track parcels arrival

The internet is littered with folk who found themselves members unwittingly - they can't all be dim! The marketing is sly and underhand and they should be penalised for this.

Iam64 we can't all be internet innocents, can we.
Even DD, an astute businesswoman, got lured in trying to use the British site from overseas.

If the NHS operated like that you could find yourself opting out and signing up for a private health scheme.

Can anyone tell me please if you can view films with Prime without using a fire stick ? I have a free month of Amazon Music at the moment and so far have never used it . I love kindle unlimited and have had many month not paying for it just getting free offers from Groupon etc.,

floradora, I'll wait for the techno wizards to answer your question about fire sticks. I can only watch Amazon Prime through my lap top. Something I've no desire to do.

Yes you can, IF you have paid for a Prime membership.

You can get them on your PC or tablet which you can connect up to the TV for easier viewing if you prefer. Go to your Prime membership account (on the Amazon page) and click on ' My Videos' (I think it's called.)

I cannot imagine how you would benefit from an Amazon Firestick without a Prime membership. (Others may know differently though.)

The only thing I don't like is that iPads and prime are not compatible. It's not that often a problem as OHdoesnt watch much ?

I have managed to avoid being lured into joining Prime, but you do have to be very alert all the time.

I avoid using Amazon for anything now. There is little you cannot buy just as easily and cheaply elsewhere

While we are talking about Amazon can I mention this and I don't want to teach my grandmother how to suck eggs

I have just read it my self Iam64 and I'm not sure I understand it either - it was dashed off before we dashed out!

I meant that surely we are not all useless with the internet and modern technology yet so many of us have been caught by Amazon into joining Prime. Therefore they have set it up in a way which catches a lot of people out. Even DD got lured into joining Amazon Prime (although she rarely uses Amazon but is very competent with the internet and many other sites).

I have some vouchers to use up, can't boycott them, not yet anyway.

Petra, I have Amazon prime, I download stuff onto it and watch it on my iPad. Great for holidays.
We love Amazon prime and Netflix, so I can’t say anything against them, however, there are two of us in our household, and we often have the GCs to stay, there are now 4 boxes on the Amazon home page and all have our names on them ( this is so that you can all have a wish list and keep it under your own name) the question is that I know that Amazon knows my name and my DHs, but how does it know the GCs name?
Prepare to be shocked peeps, it’s because all the time that the fire stick is on, it is listening to conversations in the room, if you think about it, it can be voice activated so it obviously hears what is being said. Although apparently they assure us that what they hear will not be communicated to a third party.
Now where is my foil hat........
