Do you ever feel that there just isn't enough time to do everything you want to everyday.I use to sail through completing many tasks but now i just cant do it. I have so many things i want to do but find i have to have a rest most afternoons which puts me off starting anything major, i love to go out every morning (today i met my niece for coffee and a catchup, then we mooched round the shops, i went to the library then walked home) so by the time i get back, have lunch, prep the evening meal it feels like the day has gone.I to need to rest for at least half an hour but then it seems to late to start anything else, why is that??? I suspect the culprit is the PC i do love to check f/book and GN and before i know it an hour has gone!!! Anyone else feel the same.

I feel exactly the same travelsafar. Also my DH has just said to me that we spend more time talking about doing something than actually doing it. !I had lunch with a friend yesterday and by the time I got there and got back most of the day had gone and I felt too tired to do anything else anyway.

But you don't really have to do anything beyond the basics. Just enjoy this time of life. If there's something you really want to do you'll do it. Relax!

My goodness you are able to do so much travelsafar, what a blessing to have the health and strength to go out and have such a lovely time with your niece. Some of us just couldn't do all that and to only need to rest for half an hour is amazing. Ill health cuts down whar we can do and many of us have learnt to do 'pacing' in an effort to have a life. In the same way age also has an effect and so planning and pacing is necessaryand reducing expectation to avoid disappointment is a must. There comes a time in everyone's life when you slow down and this gives an opportunity to enjoy the view! Rushing and tearing around actually means that you miss so much.smile

Synonymous maybe i have not yet accepted that i need to slow down.Must admit my DH always tells me i try to do too much.In my head i am still young but obviously my body is not and it lets me know when its had enough!!! lol.

Yes, I know that one! My granny used to say (when she was 76 trombones) that she might look wrinkly on the outside but she was still 16 inside! grin

I feel I have so much to do but end up doing nothing, My head is filled with this and that and I try to do each task and when I do I am proud of myself but the task is never to my satisfaction. Some days I just sit on my sofa and do absolutely nothing. By the way I am off sick from work with back pain probably sitting for too long.

Synonymous Sat 17-Feb-18 16:06:41

Well, Debo you clearly are not life threatened by not doing anything and it may well be because you have back pain. Be kind to yourself! Try to remember the 'Good enough' philosophy and do not make your standards impossibly high. When I look at some of the things I have done in the past and remember feeling despondent at the standard achieved I think I must have been absolutely crackers at not being pleased with my results. No wonder I ended up having a stroke! Taste the coffee, smell the flowers and enjoy the sunshine! smile

You speak a lot of sense synonymous

I hate "shoulds"..... you "should be doing this or that, and if you aren't, well you're just plain lazy". I talked that cr-p to myself all of my working life and I've now stopped! I don't have much time left, so I plan to enjoy it. I have a "to do" list. I try to work on the important things, like updating my will, but the windows can wait!

Well said NannaM!!

Looking back I can't believe all the stuff I just did in the course of a day and also felt guilty at not doing more. These days I've given myself official permission to do or not do more or less anything. The basics get done though in case anyone is wondering!

I feel the same as you Jane10 and NannaM I thought when I retired I’d have trouble filling my days, ha I was wrong. The days just fly by. I occasionally think perhaps I should be doing somthing useful like volunteering or take up a hobby but dont feel the inclination. I do have some pangs of guilt but even they are receding. I’m available for helping out my family if needed, I see my grandchildren more often I can visit my family. I can spend hours doing nothing at all. The loveliest thing is there’s no rush, no panic or worry about fitting things in. I do wonder why as I’ve got older time seems to fly past. In my younger days time seem to feel much slower. I can remember thinking the end of the week would never come. Now I seem to blink and it’s the end of the year. confused Maybe it’s because as we reach a certain age time may be literally running out shock scary

Someone told me that as we get older time does fly by quicker.Imagine an empty room, when you are younger you slowly fill the room with memories and senarios it takes many many years to fill but as we age the room fills up quicker as the memories and senarios stack on top of the exsisting ones, so the length of time it takes to reach the exsisting ones gets shorter. Eventually we will run out of space and that's when we become confused as everything squshes down to fit in, or we die!!!! Hope i explained this correctly.

Travelsafar, I know exactly what you mean in your OP and your 8 09 post.
I've also given myself permission to do nothing if that's how I feel. There will he days when I'm more energetic, I will do the jobs then. I suffer from SAD and this has been a cold winter, so I've been kinder to myself. I know for instance I will NOT enjoy being out in the cold so if I want to laze about with my tablet, its allowed. Luckily I having no one else to consider.
