Megan Markle has been making secret visits to comfort the survivors of Grenfel Towers , just like Diana use to make secret visits !

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Feb-18 11:46:43

Meghan Markle is not a Mother Theresa or a Princess Diana.
I hope not. I hope she carries on with her campaigns as she has done for years, drawing attention to women's rights around the world. She had made a name for herself as a campaigner over many years; racial inequality, gender inequality, Clean Water Campaign etc, spoken at the UN.

well said ajanela, Theoddbird andsweetcakes. Why do some of us love to build people up and then take pleasure to rip them down is it a national trait? I hope not. Harry is lucky to have this young woman who is so different from the complacent china dolls they usually try and push on the Royals (the establishment failing spectacularly with Diana and Fergie) . Megan was doing humanitarian work long before she met him. Maybe he sees the traits of his beloved and missed mother in her (and neither he or Wills were blind to Diana's faults - they were paraded by the many men who betrayed her.)
Good for Megan. Re secret visits - would you have preferred a press call ala Mr Corbyn, the hugs and tears...?

Totally agree, Luckygirl. They can’t help being born into a privileged life and I would hate to be constantly watched and criticised wherever I go.

She is not a "new Diana", neither is Kate, they are women in their own right with their own good and bad points. I really wish people would not make such comparisons. Diana married into a family with very different views than Kate and now Meghan will be marrying into. They will both have husbands who respect and support them.

Re some comments on here
I had a mean Nan & I didn't love her at all. Be careful.... you reap what you sew.

Another example of pearl clutching?
Is anybody really bothered?
I am agog with indifference.

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Feb-18 12:06:31

Some people seem very bothered though Maw

Smithy Tue 13-Feb-18 12:09:26

Ajnela, you raised some valid points. I was thinking along similar lines. She is used to doing humanitarian work and may want to feel useful. Give her a chance.
I am not a royalist but I don't feel the need to slag them off all the time.

luzdoh Tue 13-Feb-18 12:25:11

Theoddbird Iam64 (wish I was still) and others, Well said! To be born into the Royal family is a bad enough burden to carry, to fall in love with a member of it is very hard. I'm sure her visits do help people. Good for her! Diana used to pop in and see a boy from ordinary home whom she met by chance when he was very ill - I'm being discreet - and no one knew until she died. She was helped by the Police who moved her into different cars to protect her and the boy's family and she kept up her visits to see how he was. People can be kind without asking for rewards.

meandashy Tue 13-Feb-18 12:34:09

I couldn't give two hoots about any of the monarchy or what they do or don't do. I'd love to know if any of the people of Grenfell felt any benefit from Megan's visit?? If they did then great, if not then it will be looked on by some as a publicity stunt to win feathers for her royal hat!!!

luzdoh Tue 13-Feb-18 12:36:33

Radicalnan You are making a political point which should not involve personal attack on individuals. Whether our country has a monarchy or not or how the monarchy is sustained and in what position it is held is a political matter. It does you no favours to individually attack members of the current Royal Family or make presumptions about them and what they think. If they openly behave badly they may be judged for that behaviour. Similarly, acts of kindness and decent deeds should be accepted as just that. I believe that being born into the royal family is one of the hardest things to happen to anyone. I would hate it.

You lose everything in a fire. A member of the RF pops in, a few hollow words, leave in their chauffeur driven car.....you've still lost everything. I'm simply saying, not sure I'd be doing the can can. For those of you who would find this comforting, that's great....

Hattiehelga Tue 13-Feb-18 12:54:33

Just give her a hair grip - PLEASE !

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Feb-18 13:01:42

Florence you have absolutely no idea what she or any other member of the RF contribute to any good cause so why presume that all they give is a few hollow words?
confused

Doreen5 Tue 13-Feb-18 13:02:41

She is not a royal. Only people who are descendants of the king or queen are royal because of their blood line. She just happens to be engaged to a royal.

FlorenceN Tue 13-Feb-18 13:23:19

Ah! Then I shall leave it to you to enlighten me Jalima! ....honestly! I gave my opinion, who really cares what they say/do/give?? I stand by what I think or indeed presume I have little time for them, royal, engaged to a royal, whatever. An outdated institution imho.

Anniebach Tue 13-Feb-18 13:25:54

Why is any criticism of this woman regarded as jealousy and anyone who doesn't praise her dismissed as jealous ?

I was no Diana fan and her manipulation of the public and the press nearly brought down the Windsors, I am not a royalist but the attacks on poor queenie brought about by Diana was vile . I see no need for hugs and I feel your pain, this I respect about queenie, she does her job, no huggy, kissy , Anne is the same. Time will tell if Megan is genuine or not, just wish she would tie her hair back and stop wearing black. I am no fan of Harry either, playing to the camera is a lesson he learnt well.

sarahellenwhitney Tue 13-Feb-18 13:27:59

Ajanela
Royalty is C O E. Change of religion for Ms Markle, marriage service carried out by the archbishop ? was not an option. Royalty is not your person in the street.
Kate Middleton is a perfect example of how a commoner has entered into royal life. Meghan Markle is a woman of substance used to challenges,' going it alone'? She will work with her husband but like Kate will have her own cause or charities and go solo. Now is not the time.

FlorenceN Tue 13-Feb-18 13:30:18

Exactly Anniebach or just posting to 'stir things up!!!' Stir what up? Anarchy? Are we allowed to disagree on GN or have I wandered into Royston Vasey? If so, I'll just wander out.....

OldMeg Tue 13-Feb-18 13:33:28

Only one reason for starting a thread like this, to vent your spleen.

FlorenceN Tue 13-Feb-18 13:35:11

Aren't we allowed to vent either?? ?

OldMeg Tue 13-Feb-18 13:46:54

About someone you’ve never met and hasn’t done you any harm? Why?

My late MIL was that type of old woman.

I’d say you need to look inside yourself and see what it is that drives you to attack a person you don’t even know who has never done you or anyone else any harm.

Anniebach Tue 13-Feb-18 13:47:27

OldMeg, do you always see bad in others ? You have certaintly vented your spleen on several threads

Anniebach Tue 13-Feb-18 13:48:29

Attack ? How dramatic
