Bras

I always give my unwanted bras to St Munro’s for use by the homeless women, at the same time I buy a multi pack of knickers from m&s to add to them. Knickers, well I have an assortment of about 20 and use old 9ne for dusters

I had a lumpectomy 22 years ago but after putting on weight I am very lopsided so my plan is to buy something to augment my small boob but waiting to see how much difference there is when I have finished losing weight. A housesitter I had belings to a craft group in Spain and they knit or crochet boobs for women who have had mastectomies.
Back to the first question and I have no idea how many pairs of knickers I have although most are in black and from Sainsbury. I do buy some lively silky ones in all sorts of colours and patterns when on holiday in Florida. My bras come from there too because I found a style that suits me in Wal-Mart . Usually stick to 2 white 2 skin tone and two black. Just as well we are off there in April as naughty puppy has chewed two bras.

I expect my boobs are spread halfway round my back these days, now the elasticity has gone, come to think of it.

I thought I must be some sort of odd sized mutant because I found like grannyguitar stocks of my sizes in bras and pants were always low in M&S until someone pointed out that they sold out quickly as they were the most common and therefore popular sizes. Phew. We're normal!

'Hundreds of pants,can't throw them out until done. The new ones I bought at m and s are too small although still marked my size.
3 bras that fit , I use an extension clip on the back. About 10 other new bras that are too tight and were bought for weddings.' kircubbin; someone else who sounds like me! I have a Gossard Wonderbra bought for a wedding that I can no longer get into. And a drawer full of bra extensions in an attempt to get into bras bought for special occasions that are now too small.

Its ok Carol, rabbiting is fine in my book. I just hope you can find some pretty undies. It makes all the difference, I know.

I didn't know that M&Co did them MissAdventure, I'll give it a try, thank you. Never seen them in Asda, must be another 'secret society' retailer. I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your daughter, I had no idea and wouldn't have rabbited on if I'd known. As for swivelling, no I don't. Got told off by a bra fitter for doing that. Apparently you should put straps on, lean forward & drop your boobs into the cups & then do up behind your back. Not the easiest of manoeuvres! I do up the hooks round the back & pull straps on last, also wrong!

And me. Not the correct way to put on a bra, though, apparently.

Cabbie21 that’s another interesting point , I’ve always done mine up at the front and swivelled. How many more swivellers?

On the topic of bras, I am finding it really difficult to do some of mine up, especially those with three hooks and eyes. I get two done up but not three. Even those with two can be tricky, and I really haven’t mastered the art of doing it up at the front and swivelling it round. Perhaps I should try sports bras. Am I right in thinking they don’t have hooks and eyes?
Thinking ahead to when my arthritic fingers get worse, what other simplifications might I need? Not liking this thought!

What a shame for you, Carol. You'd think the high street retailers would spot this opening in the market and jump on it. M &Co did tell me that they do sell a few mastectomy bras, as do Asda, apparently?

My undies drawer must have been the inspiration for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. I have just been to M&S for new knicks - they were very low on stock of size 18; they only had three packs. So if you went in after me, I apologise! As it is a store in a biggish city, I thought this was pretty poor.

Thank you MissAdventure. You're poor daughter at only 25, bless her. And you, it must have been awful for you. Mine was many years ago when I was 37 and I did use Amoena & the other mail order companies for a while before I had the failed reconstructions but I'm such a strange shape now, even with breast forms, and with so much scarring in peculiar places, that I find mail order bras always go back! If your daughter knows of any high st retailers other than M&S I'd be really grateful to hear about them. Would be lovely to be able to go lingerie shopping like a 'normal' woman. Although I doubt I've ever been quite normal ?.....Sorry to go of topic OP!

Just wanted to add, she was 25, so definitely not up for wearing ugly undies. They're reasonably priced and very, very well made.

Carol, my daughter used this company after her mastectomy, and wore the bras for about 10 years after her reconstruction. They also do partial breast forms. Plus they use models who have had surgery too.

Very amused by MissAdventure & the explosion in a jumble sale as that's what my undies drawer is like. I was only thinking yesterday as I searched for a wearable pair of pants that I must do something about it. The majority of pants are flesh coloured as I hate them being seen under garments, especially white trousers in summer, & that goes for bras too. However, I did see a very pretty matching set in a deep green with embellishments as I walked through M& S the other day. Thinking I should bin the lot & rashly start again....

Mastectomy & a couple of failed reconstruction attempts so I'm a very odd shape!

What surgery have you had, Carol?

Black, white & skin tone bras, two of each, all same boring style as I need post surgery & same colours of knickers, prob half a dozen pairs in each colour, various styles. Wish I could find some sensibly priced coloured sets that actually fit me though. M&S only do the one style that fits & is comfortable & everywhere else is too expensive! Any suggestions please ladies?
