I just didn't know how to say no nicely. I did the same thing with her before Xmas and the things she said went round and round in my head for days.
I'd even rehearsed a little no thank you speech......

Oh poor you,just smile when necessary and hope the pub is a wee bit upmarket which I'm sure your friend will choose,have a light breakfast to start the day and you may feel alright.Best of luck.

Here are three things I don't like

I don't like lunch. It makes me feel stodgy and good for nothing for the rest of the day.

I don't like pubs. They smell and they always seem to be faintly sticky.

I don't like being patronised by people who think their life is infinitely better than mine.

So why have I just said yes to lunch in a pub with the biggest snob I know?

Honestly, I used to be more assertive than this!
