Its true, we do a lot for our children, certainly far more than our parents did for us, and yes we too have on more than one occasion, rushed back out to the shops to get last minute requested items to eat.
We often cook dinner for ours after a 12 hour shift of childcare which includes preparing 3 meals for the gc, even though we are on our knees at that point.

Oh yes, rings a bell and then how awful we feel when we get it wrong. Made mince pies with my own mincemeat for DS who lives in Europe and is upset that his locl M & S has closed. Got nearly all the way to the port and remembered they were still in the freezer, mailed him and he was really upset. Spent the evening driving round look for a suitable supermarket to buy some. Felt so bad wouldn't go to Asda or Lidl and finally found a Wiatrose whcih we cleaned out of mince pies!

Won't see them again until April so hope the mince pies in the freezer will still be OK then!

You could have said, "No, sorry, we don't have them. We'll be having..." But, imo, it was lovely of you and dh to go out and get what they would enjoy. I'm sure dh and I would do the same.

Had a big Burns Supper Lunch here yesterday, Buffet style 22 adults and 4 children.
When I told her upstairs, DD, she asked if I could do another one today for SILs 50th birthday, last saturday. The Belgians just love haggis and all the trimmings.
So 12 adults and DGS for a sit down Burns lunch today.
As you say what we do for love.

Oh yes, I've done this sort of thing many, many times. I also do my DD's irning if she has loads. I have a friend who cooks a meal for her DD, SIL and grandchildren every night and takes it round to them!

I hate ironing but I've just done 6 loads of washing and ironed the lot for my daughter who isn't having a great time health wise .I'll take it back and pick up the next load while I'm there and change their beds .OH says its too much as I've a herniated disc myself but D was ripped off by a woman who did her washing and ironing before Christmas to the tune of almost £300 for less than half what I've been doing since then !! My physio asked why my back wasn't much better last week and when I told her she said ...you're a mum and thats what we do ,but try to rest between times ..

Some years ago we drove from Oxford to Cardiff in the rush hour on a dark rainy night (only available opportunity) to collect a fire surround DD had bought on ebay and then realised was too big to go into her car.

Its what parents do and I know many who have gone to even greater lengths, because a DC asked or expected. As Seaside says, its in the genes grin

Yes the same here too, but keeps us on our toes, and my parents did it for me and my family too, so I suppose just carrying on where they left off.Have a good time .

Sorry to be so basic, but have just cleaned bathroom afterDH had a terrible accident with stoma bag. No details of course but I just saw the title thread and thought YES!

I might be having frozen pizza with random toppings as decided by the dgc but if you think I am going to cope without wine you seriously misjudge me!!grin

I think we just want to ensure they like coming here and will look after us when we are even older!

My immediate reaction was as ninathenana's, but swiftly followed on by Kittylester's and Greyduster's. Haven't we all run ourselves ragged for love? Big smile

When I am sitting with a nice dinner and a bottle of wine this evening I shall think of you kittylester. BUT I wish I had my GC overnight- haven't seen him since Xmas and wont till the end of Feb. Have a great time with GCs. smile

Greyduster Sat 27-Jan-18 12:12:03

nina grin! kitty been there, done that - and will almost certainly do the same again! And again, and again......

ninathenana Sat 27-Jan-18 11:58:48

Ah, what a lovely mum you are kitty

I think I would have told her "not unless you bring the ingredients with you"

OldMeg Sat 27-Jan-18 11:58:36

Indeed kitty ❤️

DD3 and her partner are going away over night so we are having her 2 children.

As we won't get much peace until lunch time tomorrow, we were having an easy start (and it is the weekend!) Still in bed, I messaged her to ask what time they would be arriving. Back came the reply '12.30 ish - will there be bacon and sausage cobs on offer?'

Panic stations! Just back from the butchers with sausages and bacon. DH just off to the co-op for the rolls they like!!

As I said, the things we do for love!!
