We’re a bit ahead in time here and I’ve just made OH tea. Lamb chops, mixed salad leaves, beetroot and home made coleslaw. I’m going to have kippers on toast later. Sometimes both of us struggle for ideas so what are you folks planning to eat tonight ?

Chicken stir-fry. A great way to use up bits of veg that are not enough for a portion.

I will have my main meal around six pm. Tonight it is to be a vegetable and lentil casserole and dipping in garlic bread. Followed by sticky toffee pudding.

Vegetable casserole from the Gransnet recipe on Monday.

Lovely vegan veg soup (new veg and soup mix added daily), 2 Linda MacCartney sausages with mash and possibly some veg bacon and eggs and a vegan creme caramel. Also a glass of Weston's cider or Holsten lager. A totally vegan feast fit for a king!

Going back to the 70s with chicken kiev.

Long drive home from a long-weekend of grannying this afternoon, so have got posh pizza and bagged salad so that when I get home I can just pop the pizza in the oven and make salad dressing. Oh, and pour a glass of wine.

Either just after we have eaten our evening meal or just after breakfast DH invariably
ask' what shall we have for tea?
I can't answer that as I am full!
I don't want to contemplate the thought of more food.
Suggestions will be forth coming at about 10am ish. Plenty of time to defrost if necessaryroastchicken

Yikes!
Just checked my watchgrin
Salmon, baked potatoes, mixed salad with balsamic dressing.
Jam steam pud and custard .
Sorted!

The cook (aka:DH) has just switched on a chicken casserole in the slow cooker. (The free-range chicken drumsticks were 74p for a pack of five, as they were very much "reduced for quick sale" in a very reputable northern supermarket. We're only using three; the other two are still in the freezer.)

SusieB50 Wed 24-Jan-18 10:13:59

I try and use the crock pot as much as possible for meals , so yes it has to be sorted early. Having said that we're having omlettes (chips for DH ) and salad this evening with the nice crusty bread I bought for 20p from Waitrose yesterday! Maybe some green jelly with grapes too ?

Just finished preparing ingredients for honey mustard chicken - all now in the slow cooker and will be served with wholemeal rice.

Salmon fillets, done in the steamer, and flageolet beans and broccoli with garlic and a little chilli. Green tea to drink. I'm with you DanniRae and Gagagran - like to plan ahead!

I'm doing Slimming World so menus are planned for the week! Pork steaks, jacket potatoes, carrots, peas and green beans for dinner, followed by fruit, sugar free jelly and low fat yoghurt

I hate having to decide what to eat each night, some weeks I have lots of ideas then others I struggle. Tonight I have a small pork loin which I'll wrap in puff pastry and have a few new potatoes and veg with it.

Tallyann1 Wed 24-Jan-18 09:59:59

Pork stroganoff...it's Mary berrys and its a doddle!!

Gagagran Wed 24-Jan-18 09:58:55

No you're not DanniRae. I often decide on the menu if I am awake in the night or very early morning ( we usually eat at lunchtime). I find I can then drift back to sleep once decided!

moobox Wed 24-Jan-18 09:57:57

Actual food prep usually starts 27 minutes before we eat (I listen to the Archers at 7.03, and we usually eat about 7.30. Tonight I am on my own and will have ready made falafel and salad

DanniRae Wed 24-Jan-18 09:54:23

What to have for dinner is something I decide before I get out of bed in the morning. I can't rest until it is decided. Am I alone in this? hmm

annsixty Wed 24-Jan-18 09:47:24

Yes and most days all the prep is done by about 11am.
I can't begin to think about food planning later than that.
I am quite disciplined in that side of my life, sadly not in others.

Nannylovesshopping Wed 24-Jan-18 09:45:41

Haha!! Well obviously fruit in jelly, am trying green grapes in lime jelly tonight!! The obsession continuesgrin

MawBroon Wed 24-Jan-18 09:45:24

Tea, I expect (or maybe coffee)
Supper is another matter grin

humptydumpty Wed 24-Jan-18 09:43:36

Hold on, am I missing something here, do people really know at this time of morning what they're going to eat this evening??

grandMattie Wed 24-Jan-18 09:41:55

Roast chicken pieces, potatoes, leeks and various roast veges. Going away tomorrow, so want to finish off bits. also, finish off the stewed fruit in jelly.

Lindylou51 Wed 24-Jan-18 09:35:20

Scrambled egg on toast! We have friends coming this morning to help us in the garden. I have made soup and a bakewell tart so we will be full of lunch.

annsixty Wed 24-Jan-18 09:34:30

We are currently using up the contents of the freezer , for several reasons, so tonight it is a small pork shoulder joint with veg and roast potatoes.
If our appetites are small ,as they often are now, it will be cold pork in some guise tomorrow.

harrigran Wed 24-Jan-18 09:32:00

Fillet steak, Charlotte potatoes and a salad.
