We’re a bit ahead in time here and I’ve just made OH tea. Lamb chops, mixed salad leaves, beetroot and home made coleslaw. I’m going to have kippers on toast later. Sometimes both of us struggle for ideas so what are you folks planning to eat tonight ?

Chicken casserole (free-range chicken), roasted sweet potatoes, cabbage, cooked by husband.

maryhoffmann37, I am a carnivore but don’t buy battery reared meat and not much red meat.

A James Martin recipe, soooo easy and flavoursome. A stewy type thing, bacon lardons browned with some red onion, add diced carrots, cook a while add stock, borlotti beans and finely chopped cabbage or kale.
Top with a grilled pork chop.

A nice warming pan of scouse with beetroot made this morning and finished off by hubby to-morrow for his lunch served with crusty bread.
Fresh fruit for me and cheese and biscuits for his lordship.

Not sure- I took meat of some sort out of freezer this morning but as I forget to label it when I brought it back from butchers, until it defrosts I have no clue what we will be having- quite a nice surprise hopefully. It is looking like maybe chicken quarters or pork fillet at the moment

At this stage could be anything for tea often referred to as dinner or possibly supper. The weather is wet and miserable so might have to be something hot and comforting.

nina mentioned doing a meal plan before doing the supermarket shop. I do that too, do there?

I used to laugh at people who have the same thing on the same day every week but realise that we do too.

I shop on Thursdays so:

Thursday - fish
Friday - Steak
Saturday - a stirfry or frozen pizza or something from the freezer
Sunday - roast or casserole
Monday - cold roast or an Italian omelette, fritters or the like.
Tuesday - something batch cooked so I can freeze some of it.
Wednesday - something previously frozen.

How boring are we or me? blush

On Wednesdays and Thursdays we eat lightly to prepare for the weekend. It's always soupanabun (soup and a hot cross bun with extra toast for the DH).

It may depend what part of the country the OP lives. I call my evening meal which I have around 7.30pm-8pm supper.

Just asking,---- I've lived abroad for many years, and now I'm back and wonder why supper/dinner is called "tea"?

maryhoffman37 Wed 24-Jan-18 11:30:05

Are you all carnivores? Is seems as if the majority are. I wonder if the percentage will be lower in the next generation of Grans?

I just bought the mumsnet cookbook called Top Bananas! Because my daughter in law makes some lovely easy family meals from it. So tonight I’m trying out Salmon espanol.
I have lots of cookbooks but rarely use them so I’ll see how this one goes!!

Oh how I wish I was organised. I rarely know until about and how before tea time (around 5ish) then anything I can find , often sausages/pizza / jackets .... ONE DAY I WILL BE ORGANISED!

Scribbles Wed 24-Jan-18 11:23:51

Home made spag. bog and salad; cold stewed apples and Greek yogurt to follow if we're still hungry.

Last night I cooked a Thai chicken curry and that will be 3 suppers sorted. The previous 3 evenings I had a beef casserole cooked in the slow cooker. I cannot be bothered thinking what I want to eat each day- I prefer to prepare and cook in advance. Less wastage and more economical.

Witzend Wed 24-Jan-18 11:19:30

Since I have lots of cooked chicken to use up, a substantial mulligatawny soup, with plenty of veggies, apple, rice and curry powder, and chicken stock from the carcass.

ninathenana Wed 24-Jan-18 11:18:49

humptydumpty
We do a weekly menu plan before tackling the supermarket on a Friday what we have on what day occasionally gets swapped around but not often.
I find we spend less that way.

Christinefrance Wed 24-Jan-18 11:18:04

Lindylou57 Wed 24-Jan-18 11:11:55

gulligranny Wed 24-Jan-18 10:54:55

Pork chops, grilled tomatoes, chips done in our Actifry, peas & sweetcorn. We usually eat at 7 pm listening to the Archers (yes I know, sad or what!)

Nannylovesshopping Wed 24-Jan-18 10:47:38

kittylester that sounds interesting, have never eaten eggs on rice like that, another to go on my must try list, will obviously be enormous by the summer if I even get half way through the listgrin

Lynnebo Wed 24-Jan-18 10:42:40

I'm still recovering from a brain haemorrhage last Novembet and am invited to either my daughter or my son's home for tea most nights so I'm having whatever they are cooking - so spoiled!!

kittylester Wed 24-Jan-18 10:42:15
