This was a question posed on a local radio programme last night and was fun. Here are a couple of the suggestions, cocking your little finger whilst drinking, using a china teacup.

What are your suggestions ?

Not a yacht. A barge.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 21-Jan-18 18:44:25

madeupmyname I do tuck in my tea towel, in fact I secure it under my bra straps (boobs natural)! grin

JRM definitely posh, but annoyingly so. I much prefer it to be less obvious. I didn't know about Eddie Redmayne was posh until I saw him on Graham Norton.

I love Canvey. We lived at the Dauntless boatyard one winter. Happy memories.

BBbevan you have nailed it.

And his sons sound even posher:
Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher
Peter Theodore Alphege
Tom Wentworth Somerset Dunstan
Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius
Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam

JRM. epitome of posh

PoshGran Sun 21-Jan-18 18:04:46

Me?? Posh??
I was considered so as I had my parents' southern accent at school in the north-east. It didn't take too long to fit in & when yelling the name of my best friend up the lane - "His name's not Tawny like an owl, his name is Tony!"- was my mother's exasperated cry.

My GN moniker links to where I live & the nickname of a football team.
Common as muck me! grin

According to the test I am a ‘U’. However, I know the rules and the lingo but do and say as I like.

NotAGran555 People do seem to assume some places equal posh.

We went to view a house recently. A modest house in a non posh area. The Estate Agent seemed perplexed that we were moving from 'posh village' to the one we were viewing.

Instead of talking up the area she was saying things like 'why would you move from 'posh village' to here?' in an astonished tone of voice. It was very funny.

MissAdventure Sun 21-Jan-18 17:54:19

I don't think you're common, petra. I'm on canvey. grin

MissAdventure Sun 21-Jan-18 17:53:11

Ah, I'm not much of a one for tv, only snippets.

Just the same as everyone thinks that people who live in Southend (where I live) are common.

Clarissa died in 2014 sad

mymadeupname Sun 21-Jan-18 17:42:11

WilmaKnickersfit you are posh. Read earlier post re licking plates.

Using a teatowel as a napkin also strikes me as a sensible yet mild eccentricity that could well be construed as posh. I hope you tuck it in to your neckline.

Big boobs also posh - see above re Clarissa Dickson Wright. Must be natural though.

NotAGran55 Sun 21-Jan-18 17:37:27

For some strange reason it has been assumed more than once that I must be posh as my home town is Ascot .

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 21-Jan-18 17:27:18

My family still says "Thank you for having us" and I find it hard not to take a something as a little gift when I go to someone's home.

I'm definitely not posh because not only do we eat off laptrays, I even lick the plate if we have my favourite meal - and DH has sworn under pain of death to never mention it! And while I'm confessing, I use a tea towel as a napkin because I am terrible at missing my mouth (I blame it on my big boobs!) shock grin

MissAdventure Sun 21-Jan-18 17:20:35

Hmmm.. for anyone who watches gogglebox (though its probably common to watch it!) I would nominate 2 couples for 'poshness'. Steph and Dom, and Giles and Mary. They're quite different types, though.

Sitting room for us too!

mymadeupname Sun 21-Jan-18 17:03:48

Oh I know who you mean, Clarissa something? Dickson Wright. I just looked it up. Yes, she is posh.

Also, people who do a sort of reverse apology for their views saying 'sorry, I know I'm a snob', are terribly common.

NanKate Sun 21-Jan-18 17:03:28

Jennifer Shrager from the cookery and Marigold travel programs.
Mary Berry

MissAdventure Sun 21-Jan-18 16:48:22

The one 'fat lady' that is still around. I don't know her name.

mymadeupname Sun 21-Jan-18 16:45:38

Re drinking from the saucer, my mum used to do that when her tea had spilled over onto the saucer on the long journey from the kitchen quarters along corridors past the morning room / library / sitting room / drawing room / ballroom (I'm joking) to the day room.

mymadeupname Sun 21-Jan-18 16:40:51

Benedict. That's posh in itself!
Steven Fry
Joanna Lumley (well she sounds posh)

Struggling a bit now...
