Happy as can be
All good pals and jolly good company.

As long as we're together...
Woops we go again.

annsixty Fri 16-Feb-18 13:14:43

I am just off to see him now.
Please don't think I have gone AWOL if I don't post for a few days. I think I want all you lovely people to post about happy things in your life and don't want to feel like A Spectre at the Feast.
You are all so very kind and I thank you for that.

cornergran Fri 16-Feb-18 13:20:04

Ann you certainly aren't that. We all care about you and will understand if its best for you to just concentrate on the hospital and your husband. Do care for yourself as well. Sending love to you both.

MawBroon Fri 16-Feb-18 13:40:29

I do suspect that conditions for the staff in hospitals such as the one where Mr Sixty husband finds himself must be close to breaking point.
Having been through the “Reablement” packages (twice) I think they do as fair a job as they can under the circumstances and in our case, a bloody good one. The post discharge care package included carers for 6 weeks, every disability aid known to mankind plus some more, physio and OT support, a “listening ear” and District Nurse support for catheter guidance, blood tests etc
I am sorry you are still unhappy with what has been happening but a CDU is not a dumping ground and is better than being sent home unsupported. Given that it could be any or all out of the UTI, the Alzheimer’s, the falls and mobility issues or a combination of any or all three, that may explain why he has not yet been admitted to a specific area, but he HAS been “admitted” I.e. to hospital and wheels certainly seem to be in motion.
I do try to be a “glass half full “ person these days, things can be so much worse. Let’s hope you can feel encouraged by what you learn today.
Remember there is no pressure on you to bring him home if you are not ready.

My mother’s kitchen is were we all came with happy joyful news, we came with big problems, little problems, we came with sorrow and mourning, we came to gossip and put the world to rights, to discuss and decide a multitude of things The price of bread, a new dress, a haircut horrible neighbours, disappointment and achievements and family news. All life passed through my mums kitchen together with tea and cake the occasional brandy This is how I think of this kitchen. So post if you need to annsixty Most of my post are pretty desolate. It doesn’t stop me.

soop Fri 16-Feb-18 15:11:28

A lovely post, morethan2 - that's precisely what we wish for each other - a place to meet and share whatever life throws our way.

ann We are all rooting for you and your husband.

mumofmadboys Welcome back. Where have you been hiding? Anyway, it's good to have your company.

Our friend is having a very nasty time with an infection in the wound from the recent hip surgery. The nurse is calling twice daily to inspect and change the dressings. She is taking a course of antibiotics. Hopefully they will kick in and help her to continue to recover.

We visited her husband in the care home. He had won a super prize in the Valentine Day draw. We therefore visited his wife bearing gifts. She was thrilled. It was good to see her smile.

soop Fri 16-Feb-18 16:51:07

I'm logging off earlier than usual. Weather-wise it's been a decent day in every respect. All the snow has disappeared from the peaks on the islands of Jura and Islay.

I'm going to flop in my comfy chair with a brew and be thankful for my blessings. May even catch a little of the Olympics. I would like to be able to dance on ice. I would like to be able to snowboard and do cartwheels mid-flight. I would like to be a lot of things but I'm never to going to anything beyond ride my exercise for twenty minutes at a stretch. hmm As I've already said...I'm grateful for small mercies.

As soon as I return tomorrow, I shall be hoping to hear better news from ann. She so deserves to feel better than she has of late.

smile moon

harrigran Fri 16-Feb-18 16:54:25

We had some very sad news this morning, our neighbour of 46 years passed away during the night. He had a defibrillator/pacemaker insitu but it failed so there will have to be a post mortem.

cornergran Fri 16-Feb-18 17:13:40

That’s very sad news harri, I’m sorry for the loss of your neighbour and friend. flowers.

morethan2 Fri 16-Feb-18 17:42:42

That’s very sad harrigran my condolences flowers

Nelliemoser Fri 16-Feb-18 18:05:54

I have just come back from a four night break with HF holidays singing "course". (Very good fun.)
I was ok until yesterday when I started with a cough and I now feel achy and generally horrible. I am hoping it will not get worse.

I drove home from Shropshire in glorious sunshine but I have not done anything much. At least my journey home was easy driving, what I needed when you are coughing and feeling rough.
The sat nav took me past my favourite garden centre and I did not even want to to stop to visit it.
I just hope this will get better soon. My head and other bits of me ache. I have probably picked up bugs from different areas of the UK.

Nelliemoser Fri 16-Feb-18 18:08:01

Annsixty (((((hugs)))))

Greyduster Fri 16-Feb-18 18:57:46

Harri I’m so sorry to hear about your neighbour. You will miss him sorely. ?
Ann if you feel you can find the time and energy to let us know how your DH is, I know I am not alone in wanting to know, and you are in no way a spectre at the feast as you put it. I couldn’t have put it better than Morethan. Please look after yourself.
Soop that’s not good news about your friend - hard enough getting over surgery. Fingers crossed for her recovery.
I have not had a good day. First, the microwave packed up, and then the doctor didn’t like my test results so he is sending me to the hospital sometime in the next two weeks. I hope he is just hedging his bets. I went in feeling quite chipper and came out feeling, well, less than chipper. Not quite the way round I wanted it. At least we have replaced the microwave so one out of two is okay! And DH seems to be shaking off his cold. Another plus ?! Half term is looming so I can’t afford to have half of Team Duster out of commission with the sniffles!
I will bid you a goodnight one and all, and put my feet up.

Crafting Fri 16-Feb-18 19:19:46

ann the kitchen is exactly the place for you to be. We all care about you and your DH and will try and support you in any way we can. Hope things improve soon. As maw said, I think hospitals are being pushed to th limit at the moment but my DB when he was alive and my SIL in her recent problems had excellent care from both the hospitals they were in. Having said that I do think the presence of an interested family member can spur on the staff to take more interest in patients especially those with dementia or Alzheimer's who are not always very responsive themselves. Hope you convince the OT people how much help you really need before they even consider sending your DH home.

Harri sorry about your neighbour. You must have been close living next to each other for that many years.

nellie hope you aren't going down with anything bad. Early to bed with hot drink and hope you feel better tomorrow ?
soop sorry your friend is so ill. Hope the infection clears up soon.
Could MacS put your exercise bike out in the snow and strap some skis to the bottom. With a bit of extra peddling you could be down south before you know it. We would love you to pop in for a visit ⛷ grin

Galen Fri 16-Feb-18 19:20:37

Ann
We are all here for each other and would worry if you didn’t post.
If there is anything I can do, tell me. And I’m sure the same goes for any of us Kitcheners. Blimey, sounds like something from the First World War.
Not, “your country needs you”
But
“The kitchen needs you”
Look after yourself!

mumofmadboys Fri 16-Feb-18 23:04:19

Nelliemoser we are off shortly on a HF holiday at Church Stretton- a walking holiday. I guess it is probably the same hotel you were at. Hope you feel better soon.

oldgoat Fri 16-Feb-18 23:32:15

We had a lovely walking holiday at Church Stretton last September MOMB. Hope the weather is fine for you because there are such beautiful views in that area and from the house itself unless, like us, you find yourself looking out over the fire escape!

oldgoat Fri 16-Feb-18 23:37:21

We've had lots of HF holidays and I always wonder whether there are any other Gransnetters present. Perhaps we need a secret hand shake?

MawBroon Sat 17-Feb-18 09:00:20

Better not let some people know about this!
Not secret handshakes or rolled up trouser legs - that could start a rush of pearl clutching grin

oldgoat Sat 17-Feb-18 09:06:32

Bellanonna Sat 17-Feb-18 10:14:26

I stayed at Longmynd House some years ago. Lovely, isn’t it? I’m having a short escape to another HF house in April mainly to meet up with a friend who lives on the IOM. We haven’t met for 20 years so it will be fun. I will mention Gransnet to other guests and see if anyone admits to belonging. This house is not too far for me to get back from in an emergency. I also thought I’d visit the Amberley museum on the way home and see if I can pick up any clues about Printmiss.
Nelliemoser I hope your bug doesn’t last too long.

NanaandGrampy Sat 17-Feb-18 11:37:30

Morning!

Just a brief pop in for an Ann update. Hope you’re feeling better too Maw !

Sorry for your sad news Harrigran.

Just waved off the boys.... leaving home at 8am to drive back down, pick up all 4 kids then off for my Christmas present photo shoot , just grandparents and kids!! Then belatedly celebrating Grampys birthday with an overnight down there!

Will be back to normal Tuesday so don’t do anything too exciting until I get back !!

grannyqueenie Sat 17-Feb-18 11:49:48

Ann please don’t go awol, we’d have to send a search party and just think of the trouble that would cause! We’re all rooting for you both.
Bit of a lazy weekend for us, we need to conserve our energy for the 2 very lively dgc 11 and almost 10 who are arriving on Sunday evening for a couple of days! Dd has promised send them well clad for lots of outdoor so we can wear them out activities and a break from wall to wall rain would help too. They’re rather a competitive pair so sometimes a “divide and rule strategy” works well with them. Right, now to go and find some suitable fodder!

cornergran Sat 17-Feb-18 12:08:31

Sounds as if you are in for a busy couple of days grannyq, I'd rest while you can. smile

I love the idea of your photo shoot n&g. Its given me an idea for my birthday this year, allegedly a 'big' one. Our daughter in law is an excellent photographer, something that won't strain their already strained finances. Hope you are delighted with the outcome.

I'm more than grumpy, the lurgy has arrived. I am determined it won't last as we are hosting two family birthdays next weekend. Hopefully determination will win through.

I've been thinking about ann and her husband, really, really hope she is feeling better supported by the hospital. Sometimes its the human touch that matters the most.

Take care everyone, stay away from me and my germs. grin

soop Sat 17-Feb-18 14:19:53

Sad news of your neighbour's death, harrigran, we know how it feels to lose a very dear friend. flowers

Nellie and corner take good care of yourselves.

Crafting Very funny! If we had snow...which we haven't...I'd give your suggestion a whirl. wink

Our friend is having the nurse call twice daily. She doesn't look as chipper as she did when she left hospital. There's still time for the antibio's to do their bit.

The latest photo of our great grandchild coming up...

Galen You are a lovely lady. smile

Charleygirl Sat 17-Feb-18 16:30:46

corner sorry to hear that the lurgy has hit you. Please, please will you rest? If you are not well next weekend the family will have to put their thinking caps on to change the venue and prepare the food.

Harri so sorry to hear about your neighbour's death.

soop that baby is gorgeous and growing rapidly.
