I have discovered that the house next door will be occupied on Monday, mother, father and two adult children. It has been permanently rented and some of the tenants have been a nightmare, drugs and parties. Amazingly I prefer it to be empty. It is a middle terrace of three so noise can be a problem. Time will tell no doubt.

Oh, charley, fingers crossed. Hopefully it will be a nice, quiet family.

thanks Bella- luckily I am in contact with the owner and he has evicted x2 lots of residents over the years for partying at 4am x5 nights a week. They were students, I was working full time so I was not impressed.

Maw harrigran and Tegan2 We called into the garage in the hope that the spare part had turned up and had been fitted. It hadn't. We still have use of our pal's mum's KA. Without it, we'd be not exactly housebound, but relying a none-too-frequent bus service.

Our friend has just phoned from her "beautiful room" in the Queen Elizabeth hospital. She sounds chipper. The physio has been with her today. I'm grinning because it was lovely to hear her voice.

annsixty Please don't stay away from us. You know that we're here to do whatever we can do to cheer you. anno is right. We all go through periods of "lowness". Just keep talking to us, no matter what.

The hospital require measurements "in inches" of some items of furniture in our pal's house. That will be our first job of the day tomorrow. Although I've had both hips replaced, I did not have to come home to an empty house. Thankfully, I had MacSporran to support me. I'm wondering whether, when discharged, our friend may be need to go into a convalescent home for a wee while.

Earlier this afternoon, I found it tricky to access Gransnet. Did anyone have a similar buggeration?

My car needed something doing to get past mot.
Total bill £311 that’s for service, mot, whatever needed doing and retest.
Not bad I feel. My insurance last year was £140 don’t pay road tax, filled car up twice last year, so it really does not cost me a lot anyway!

OMG Galen a good job I was sitting down when I read how much your car tax is. I live in London, no accidents and I pay nearly £500.

soop convalescent homes went out around 30+years ago, certainly in England. She will have a problem living on her own, even getting dressed with be a trial.

You will have to measure her bed from floor to mattress and the chairs she sits in so that the chairs and bed are not too low. Hopefully she will not be thrown out, discharged, too early. It is marginally easier with a knee replacement because although there is a risk of dislocation, it is very low whereas after a THR the risk is high.

I did indeed have trouble logging on earlier this afternoon, but with the exception of this thread, I don’t think I missed much

I don’t pay road tax as I am receipt of DLA higher rate mobility allowance. My insurance is so low as no accidents and less than 2000 miles a year mileage

Galen my mileage is also low which seems to go against me in London. I am sure part of it is living in London and not having a garage. Ah well, I grin and bear it.

I keep my car in my drive. The garage is completely taken over by Gary! Kate has taken over the spare bedroom.
I’m negotiating to get my house back to me again!

Just back from a jolly with my friend who was widowed in May.
She and I both need the company of someone who understands and we both do.
We went to a Miller and Carter steakhouse, new to both of us and indeed to our area, just recently opened.
It was noisy but fun, superb steaks and a good bottle of red may have been involved.
I feel set up for a few days in what is mostly a dire situation.
Little treats are so important and so good.

It will be a challenge for your friend to be on her own soop, like you I was very grateful to have someone on hand for those early days. Being sent home less than 48 hours post op was certainly no picnic, I hope the hospital are able to keep your friend long enough for her to gain a bit of mobility.

Hope your new neighbours prove to be easy and trouble free to live alongside charley. Inconsiderate neighbours are very tiresome but a good neighbour is such an asset. We thought and so did the electrician that checked it, that we’d resolved a problem with our smoke alarms randomly going off, but apparently not. We’re away and our lovely young neighbour has been in touch tonight to say she could hear it beeping. I usually give her a key and our closet dds number, but goodness knows why I didn’t this time. Our son in law has now been across and thinks he has disabled the alarms, I do hope he’s right!.

We’re in Suffolk with a group of friends for the weekend. It’s something we’ve been doing annually, in a different location each year, for the last 15 years. We all go back a long way, we’ve known one couple for 45 years and all the rest for well over 35 +. We originally met in London but now are scattered across the country and don’t see each other much, if at all, through the year. So much laughter, good food, fine wine and lots of catching is on the agenda. But now it’s time for bed, night all. x

Ann I’m glad you enjoyed dinner with your friend. Miller and Carter took over the carvery we used to go to and we haven’t got round to going there yet, but it is on the cards. I love steak but never manage to get it just the way I like it at home.
Gq we are looking forward to getting together with some of our outlying, long standing friends this year. There will be a lot of catching up to do there too. Enjoy your weekend.
We had a day out walking yesterday - in brilliant sunshine for a change, so the views from Froggatt Edge were superb all the way over to the Edale escarpment which still had lying snow. Even came across a stone circle! A good lunch (an excellent fish pie) and half a pint of Guinness half way round was perhaps too much as we were going very slowly on the home straight (“Running Out. Please pass”) with much sitting down ‘admiring the view’ . Today I intend to do not a lot except to make a curry for dinner. I will look in later.

Ann pleased to hear that you enjoyed your steak. There is a Miller and Carter about 4 miles from me and it is very good. I am going out for lunch with a friend tomorrow but it will not be there. I love wine with a steak but I never drink and drive so that knocks that one out.

The last neighbours who rented that house were there from 2009 and we got along so well. They were so helpful to me after my knee replacement, doing small tasks like putting out my wheelie bins and offering to shop. I am very well organised but it is the thought that counts.

I was able to help them as I am semi computer literate. I do miss them.

I think today that I have an appointment with my washing machine. It is very cold here but it is fairly bright outside. My kitchen looks as though I have been burgled so I have to rectify that.

An electrician and DIY man were supposed to come yesterday but neither appeared. The voicemail I left would have made the fellow's ears ring. Back to the drawing board.

I had a rubbish night not least (my own fault) because I failed to resist responding to comments about divorce and bereavement. Slap my wrist and make me write 100 lines.
So I was wide awake and thought I would take what I call a Dopeyclone (I think they are Zopiclone) to get me back to sleep Bad dreams, waking up with a head like a cross between a steel band and cotton wool . Not a wise move.
Paws Sister’s are coming for the weekend for a “family photo-fest “ and look through some family papers including family tree stuff which we have had sine MIL’s house was cleared in 2000. I hope it will be informative and interesting.
At least I do not have to worry about taking them to the playground or 6.30am starts like last weekend with the little ones!

How is Hattie Maw? You have not mentioned her for a while- no doubt she is getting her required hours of beauty sleep and like Tara she will not miss out.

Hattie can sleep for Britain Charleygirl. As long as she has a sofa or two she seems very happy. DD’s in-laws came round on Thursday and apart from some surprise at her SIZE (they are very dog people and have a Welsh Terrier and a little mongrel type cross) were amused when Hattie curled up on the sofa beside the MIL with her head on her shoulder and front paws on her lap.
Now not EVERYBODY appreciates that ???
