I don't. My mother died on 31st December, so for me it is a sad day. We will watch, into the Woods with a nice glass of something and go to bed before midnight.
Someone needs to go back to Junior School himself.
Do you?
How do you?
We do, on our own at home.
The first new year party I went to with dh, about a week after we met, was thrown by his senior partner and was an excruciating experience. Having to kiss, and be kissed by loads of people I didn't know and rarely, if ever, saw again.
Luckily, we both felt the same and have only done family New Year Parties since.
Tonight we will have a nice meal, nice wine, celebrate that we made it to the end of the year and look forward to the next.

Going to a rock n roll dance with live band The Jets. I am going with my new partner of eight weeks who I met online and whose profile said one of his hobbies is Rock N Roll dancing. So with my passion for playing Bridge, it is a complete contrast. I have just come back from a Bridge break with a room full of miserable people, so I am looking forward to laughing and dancing. He is a mere 71 and I am 67. It is lovely to find someone who doesn't do fireside and slippers. A keen rambler too so 2018 here we come, Happy New Year everyone
we'll, not well.
We're normally spark out by midnight. This evening well be visiting friends about a mile away till ten-ish then home to watch Graham Norton till whatever time that show finishes. If I'm not too tired....
Wishing everyone a very happy new year
I will be at a neighbours house with OH and a group of friends. It will be good but I have sadness inside of me since Mum died in October that I won't show. You know that moment when a friend asks you how you are and you say fine but you're not really, it will be like that.
Anyway, GN friends thanks for being there, it's a good place, and a happy new year kitty and everyone.
We used to get together 3 other local couples and we had many hilarious times .Things have changed so much over the past few years . DH not willing to do anything, a death one of the group- a dear friend . So we will be looking after our DD's old dog so that they can go away and stay with friends . A nice meal with dessert as a treat. I will probably be on my own by midnight ( with said dog!) as DH will no doubt go to bed . ?
mischief .
Living on my own, family live abroad, new year is I am sure for many also living alone just another day. To each his own but, twenty four seven, doing what I want when I want is not what I would describe as 'luxury'.
We will probably just stay in, the two of us. We used to go to a great party every year at a local pub but they stopped doing it. We find if we go out anywhere just for a meal or a drink it is far too crowded. I hope you all enjoy whatever you are doing.
I'll probably be on my own this NYE. I've sometimes gone to my sister's but have got out of the habit in recent years due to ill health and related fatigue.
This winter almost all the family have been struck down by a virus (temperature, cough, sneezing) despite the flu jab. Most getting over it by now, I'm probably halfway though (pharmacist said it lasts a month!) and BIL is about a week behind me IYSWIM so I think it'll be a quiet one. If I stay up I'm sure I'll raise of glass of something.
Cheers! Best wishes to you all and here's to a happy and healthy 2018.
There's times that seem even lonelier and New Year is one of them. When my children were young no one ever wanted to babysit New Year so as a single mum spent many a new year on my own, and handled it by going to bed to be away from it all. Now I feel as if I should do something. A meal with friends, then home to see the New Year in and will probably watch the fireworks. Will actually be glad to go back to work and get life back on track. Sometimes Christmas and New Year feels as if I'm 'trying to be happy' and its hard to be positive that a new year is going to be any different from any other year. Do I need a good talking to myself?????
Thank you Luckygirl, much appreciated.
Am taking a complete meal to a dear chum who is awaiting a huge op. Four of us will eat, drink and have much laughter, have a wee dram at the bells before not too late to bed.
We never celebrate NYE by going out - always a quiet time at home, which I am content with. I doubt OH will last till midnight.
I hope that those of you on your own tonight can find things to enjoy, and I send you lots of new year wishes.
Having a quiet one not too keen on new year. Out for meal with family tomorrow . Best wishes and hope 2018 is a kind one ?
Got engaged in New Years Eve, long time ago. Since my daughters married I have spent it on my own . Don't think back or look forward. no tv. Bed at 11.pm as usual, play on Nintendo as usual, light out at 11.50pm , radio 4 on , come midnight the good old BBC remains the same as when I was a gal,Big Ben then the announcer - 'may I on behalf of all at BBC wish you a happy new year . Then it's straight to the news . My daughters have always phoned , not this year.
I fear this New .Year
Another one here who will be alone NY. Mainly due to the tablets to keep my stupid legs working that make me sleepy. So off to bed by 10 pm at latest. Will know its NY due to the number of fireworks that usually go off! My DS &DiL wont be staying up either as DS has to work NY Day! So to all Gransnetters Happy New Year & hopefully a better one for us all!
Just me and him tonight. Having a fillet steak for dinner. In the past we felt we had to go out and celebrate. We often went to stay in a hotel with our two best friends. One year in Dublin it felt really flat, especially on New Years Day when everything was shut. That was the last time we went away for new year.
I could be the only ' party pooper ' in here but I've never got new year. To me it's just another evening. I've been to a few ny parties but can't wait to get away. For many a new year now it's bed the usual time.
We don’t generally celebrate New Year now except to raise a glass to each other. Our tradition until a few years ago was to spend it with a couple who we were very close to. If they came to us we would have dinner, and, weather permitting, take a bottle of champagne and some glasses, walk across the road to the highest point in our local park and stand with neighbours and others to herald in the New Year and watch the fireworks go off all over the city. It was very jolly. Sadly our friend died and his wife has been content just to get together for lunch on 31st, but this year she is not able to do it, so a long tradition is broken. DD and her family will come to lunch today, but they will not stay and DH and I will raise a glass to each other and then go to bed. Whether you are celebrating or not, I wish you, one and all, a Happy New Year.
Yes Trendygran, this post is rather full of "We ....." I shall also be on my own, for the first time. I have plenty to do so I shall keep busy but I have a bottle of Champagne chilling, shall enjoy my supper and shall enjoy the midnight fireworks and toast myself and you, and hope for a good 2018 for all we Grans.

Yes, I'm on my own too. Like some others I have never really enjoyed NY Eve, even when I was young, and spent a lot of time with (and kissing!) people I didn't particularly want to be with. Since my husband died I try to ignore NY Eve and look at NY Day as a fresh start. Hope those of you who are alone, but don't want to be, don't feel too sad.
Special dinner for one, long soak in the bath surrounded by candles and a good book to read, into my jymjams, glass or two of alcohol while watching Jules and straight to bed after Big Ben. I have the luxury of living on my own as you can probably tell. See you all in 2018.
We are having our 5 grandchildren over night, lots of laughter playing the envelope game, making non alcoholic cocktails for toasting in the new year.
Music will be on, food is always pizza, hot dogs and chips with the cake they have made.
Youngest is 8 likes his sleep and has never stayed up to watch the fireworks at midnight on TV all year he says I'm staying up this time, hope he can this year.(we always record it for him to see next morning).
Everyone is in bed for 12.30 including us as we will be shattered.
Happy New Year everyone, even though we have never met I love reading your posts.xx
Baby sitting so young people can let their hair down with steak g and t and a prayer for our family
Hubby and I will stay at home and I'm cooking a nice dinner including scallops and some (very expensive!) steak. Will have some cocktails and some prosecco too!
When we first met 14 years ago, we would be out in the town in our fancy dress with all the other local revellers but time has taken it's toll! ?
Happy new year, all!
