I was listening to Woman's Hour very briefly this morning just before going out.

A question was asked, 'what advise would you give to your younger self if you could go back in time'.

I have thought about this all day and find it almost impossible to answer as so many things happened while i was young that i would like to change.

Have you any advise you would give yourself?

I would Advise myself to do EVERYTHING differently, every decision I have made I regret. I have not had a happy life in any respect.

Don't waste so much time and effort trying to help people who won't try to help themselves.

I look back on my choices, maybe with hindsight I could have done things differently, but if I hadn't made the choices I did I wouldn't have my DD & DGSs, wouldn't have met my wonderful DH & now as a widow living close to DD, new area, new friends, exciting new life.

I probably wouldn't have listened to "my advice" when I was youngertchblush

Annodomini. I agree with you. Also when someone shows you who they are, believe them.

To devote my energies to being kinder, and not necessarily smarter. I think on occasion over the years, I've got those two in the wrong order. [Rueful button, please]

Take much better care of your teeth!!

annodomini Fri 29-Dec-17 12:57:36

Don't agree to marry the man before you have met the parents. hmm

maryhoffman37 Fri 29-Dec-17 12:36:48

Accept my place at York and not go to Cambridge because I thought it would be so much better.

Harmonygranny Fri 29-Dec-17 12:32:31

I'd advise myself to try not to be so self centred, and be kinder to others. I think however that many of us evolve as we age and it's never too late to start again!?

..and another
Listen to those who tell you "yes you can" not to those who say "you're not good enough" and then play it forward.

BRedhead59 Fri 29-Dec-17 12:24:38

You did well! .....but you could have toned it down a bit!

krazykat Fri 29-Dec-17 12:21:47

That I am not responsible for everyone elses happiness.
And just because I grew up with bullying parents it doesnt mean I'm useless and I dohave a mind of my own.

Silverlining47 Fri 29-Dec-17 12:12:17

Oops....yourself

Silverlining47 Fri 29-Dec-17 12:11:44

Camelotclub Fri 29-Dec-17 12:05:47

That should be 'on' a man who drank!

Camelotclub Fri 29-Dec-17 12:05:28

Not to waste time of a man who drank.

Not to worry abut things I had no control over or that hadn't even happened.

sarahellenwhitney Fri 29-Dec-17 11:43:13

Younger self ?what age ?.
Until I reached my mid thirties when asked to jump I would say how high? Then a move to a different part of the UK due to DH work, my past was behind me as a change of scenery, a new home meant I made new friends and I was able to obtain a better job. This made me realise I should have grown some long before that but I soon made up for it with no regrets..

David1968 Fri 29-Dec-17 11:38:50

Never trust a man with contraception! Always rely on yourself....!

Aepgirl Fri 29-Dec-17 11:33:43

To be more independent, and not believe people who told me that I couldn't do something.

loopyloo Fri 29-Dec-17 11:32:30

I would have taken better care of myself. Not eaten all those chocolates, gone to more exercise classes and cleaned my teeth a lot more thoroughly.

harrysgran Fri 29-Dec-17 11:30:05

Say what you really feel even if it means upsetting someone else holding it all inside doesn't help anyone at the end of the day

Eglantine21 Fri 29-Dec-17 11:27:16

Move out of London! ASAP!!

Coconut Fri 29-Dec-17 11:25:47

Ditto with icanhandthemback !

Neilspurgeon0 Fri 29-Dec-17 11:25:35

Oh yes, cornergran so very true, to me aged eight “she won’t bite, just tell her you like her and you would like to be friends”; perhaps sixty years of sadness and feeling I had wasted an entire life wondering “what if” might have been avoided, one way or the other.

GrannyO Fri 29-Dec-17 11:23:45

I would tell myself to learn to drive. It's held me back for years. On the other hand, I'm sure I wouldn't have made a good driver.
